STEPS in 50 languages

Learn 50 languages for free using your native language!

50languages.com contains 100 lessons that provide you with a basic vocabulary. With no prior knowledge, you will learn to fluently speak short sentences in real-world situations in no time.

1. In the Main Menu tap on "Select languages". Then select your native language and the language you want to learn. Stay online for 10 minutes so that all sound files for this language can be downloaded in the background. You can work offline then.

2. Tap on "Account settings" and "Register". After registering you can make in-app purchases to remove ads, save your progress on our server, get a language certificate after 50 and 100 lessons.

3. If you have prior knowledge of the language, we recommend that you first take a placement test.

4. You will find 100 lessons that you can learn for free. Each lesson has 10 steps. You will be guided through all the lessons.

5. Go to the menu in the top right corner to repeat a lesson or to skip a task.

6. Tap on "Practice" in the Main Menu to practice the content of the lessons. Here you can also learn the alphabet and the numbers.

Tips for effective learning

Take 15 minute breaks after each lesson to relax and memorize what you learned.

Review the previous lesson before you start a new one.

We strongly recommend that you take notes while learning.

The main benefit of the app is the offline feature. Apart from this, for learning Mandarin, the website is more useful, because there's an action for reading the answer in pinyin, as distinct from hearing it. And this provides useful tone training. In the app, there's a single action for Pinyin and sound. Update: if you select flashcards rather than wordlist, you get a choice of response actions, so you can see the text with phonetics before hearing it.

The biggest flaw in the UI is that it defaults to system language, and it can not be changed. This in itself wouldn't be that bad, if the translation was decent. However, I had to think what every single option in the menu could be in English, before I managed to use the app. Instructions and menu options seemed confusing, mostly due to mixed use of imperative and basic forms of verbs. Note to future translator(s): I can think no way "to extract" translates to "lakkauttaa", as the sentence "sanasto lakkautetaan" makes no sense and sounds like something bad is about to happen (the English version of the sentence was "vocabulary will be extracted"). Also, I may be spoiled for more rapid learning, as I found the progression in learning be too slow for my taste. Being interrupted by tips after each step didn't help, even though you can disable them by ticking the box.

Honestly, this app could be really, really good BUT everything is so scattered and cluttered that it is too hard to navigate. There are no real clear goals or guides, just tons of options to select blindly. I wish I could rely on it specifically, as it is hard to find apps that teach EU Portuguese, but it is too confusing and messy to use as a consistent learning tool. At this point I'm really only using it for the radio even though I wish I could use it for more. Sorry y'all!

Very good app, the content is very good, better than duolingo. The interface needs improvement though. Even so, it teaches you the basics in a structured manner. I'm also thrilled about the amount of languages and especially about the rare ones. Are you working on expanding the languages covered? Any chances of adding kurdish, latin or any celtic languages?

One can't learn anything from this app besides a few new words. It's annoying the way it repeats the same words over and over again. I would suggest that you make it return ot a few words already passed, to improve one's memory. Also, let us choose the level we begin from. And emphasise on the sentence structures.

Not a very intuitive app. There is no way to skip to a specific lesson. If you missed going to tge appropriate lesson after your initial assessment, you're stuck starting at lesson 001. There is also no way to go back to a previous lesdon to review something. Very forced linear learning. And too repetitive. Learning German and after the third flashcard I know Mann is man. I don't need it repeated another dozen times.

Dull. The selection of languages is the biggest strength here. The exercises are vocabulary only and slow. I don't think this app is a good choice for anyone. Now it's not without credit, but any credit it might have, goes out the window. It's not good for tourists who need a few vital phrases, it's not good for starting to learn a language and it most certainly doesn't make for good long term use. I firmly believe your time is not well spent here.

This app is working quite well so far, I was looking for a app to give me a good basic understanding of the language before I look at proper lessons and I think this will work well for that. The only irritating thing is that almost every group of words includes the phrase "He and She", it is very annoying and cant think of why it would be in there intentionally.

this is a good app. for phrases it would help to also get a literal translation. also i would prefer if the app wouldn't ask me to click continue after a question. i would rather have the instruction on top of the task/question than to see it before hand and then having to click continue all the time. that gets very tiring after a while and kind of disturbes the flow

I like the app but it's placement test makes it easy to pass lots of lessons. Granted I can read every for of Cyrillic alphabets but that shouldn't mean I was able to pass into lesson 11 of Ukrainian. most of the answers I got right were from basic linguistic analysis. I don't actually recognize those words πŸ˜‚.

Great way to proctor your current level of proficiency in a language and a great opportunity to incorporate active studying in language learning. This app encompasses spelling, pernounciation, reading, and listening skills that are necessary to master any language. It guides the user through chapters in the textbook by using interactive quizzes and activities. Highly recommend to people who are learning languages on their own or if a class in the language can't be found, for example Amharigna.

finally, an app that understands that learning new words isn't just throwing you a bunch of flashcards. a much welcome improvement over the previous version, the guided steps really helped maintain interest in learning. also, as mentioned by others, it has a placement test!! i took the one for afrikaans and it immediately started me at lesson 21!! amazing! helped me skip 20 lessons of words i already know lol

Great add, amazing phrasebook in so many less resourced languages, like Tigrinya which I am learning. unfortunately - current version gets stuck on pressing 'start', the mode added by this app: the error message is "Index: 0 Size: 0", for any language I choose... the app says "please wait" forever.... please fix this!

Can't be used without permission to use microphone. Uninstalled. EDIT: Thanks for the fast reply! I guessed as much, and some user might like this, but I think it should be optional to use that function and not make the whole app unusable by locking you in a loop of asking for that permission.

Very well done. I hope soon to have the option to save some words or phrases to a some sort of personal book which could be played/accessed easily or on a pre-set schedule.

I am a silver member, now and I loved it. The best educational app with perfect educational materials and way better than Duolingo. I was impressed enough to pay for it and support the devs. I would recommend this app to all my friends. I would suggest adding silver certificates after progressing through 50-100 lessons for silver members, the bronze equivalent for bronze members and the gold equivalent for gold members. I am sure the certificates for progressing would look very luxurious.

I'm totally blind and always wanted to learn Chinese. I found out about the 50languages courses, and installed the app. Great accessibility (finally!), easy to use, and really helpful. Thaoks dev's! I'll recommend it to my blind friend who want to learn languages.

Only used a few hours and understand a few things. Very easy to use, have suggested to friends. Maybe some videos added could really enhance this app πŸ‘β˜ΊοΈ if all keeps up, will change to 5 star when ive has more time to learn 😊

If I deleted the data of this app (not the application, just the data) I go back to the Level 1 step 1, can't we go back to our latest lesson? I thought it will be saved our progress or maybe I just can't understand how it works? I already register and login I thought if we wanted it to be saved we have to make our account but it seems nothing changed :(

Kon. B. May 21, 2019

Very good in terms of new words learning and practice! even grammar! 50 languages! unfortunately it is necessary to open your lesson each time you used another application in parallel. Cant even check something in google translate without rebooting whole application(

Greate app , Thank you I am using the app to learn (fr , de) when I select the language the app ask if I want to delete the MP3 files , I want to switch between languages without the risk of losing the MP3 files.

Updated May 16, 2022. I am finding this app more useful than I thought I would. The drawback is that it is difficult to know which language you are on but still a good price/value.

Swa. P. May 22, 2020

Great app for learning 49 languages (excluding native language). Can you reply my review. Please tell me difference between your 2 apps i.e. "steps in 50 languages" and "learn 50 languages". Thank you. Edit: Thank you for the quick response. You deserve 5 stars.

Ant. V. Aug 16, 2019

i'd have rated it 5 stars kf it weren't for the bugs on this app edit : there are two kinds of steps in every lesson that are like the ones concerning the lesson and the ones that teavh you some voc from the eleventh lesson, 2nd step (first voc step of the lesson) the text beneath the pictures doesn't fit with the sound, and it's the same for the whole step and for every step in the lesson concerning vocabulary :/ however, this problem doesn't affect the steps that concern the lesson itself
