Wish I could give it zero stars now... I've been using this app since it was released. It has been one of my go to apps for the customizable layers and excellent features. Today after it automatically updated, the radar does not load at all. Then most of the options are locked unless I pay monthly ($4)/ yearly ($20). Maybe you could have eased into the premium requirements a little. Don't think that because I've gotten used to what was there, that I won't live without it.
It has a beautiful if not stunning user interface. Problems were that 1. It's very slow to refresh compared to other weather apps I've used, 2. The animation is very choppy, start stop start stop start stop, almost to the point that I don't get a feel for how the weather is moving. Weather pattern animations should be smooth slow and continuous. User should be given the choice of using a larger temporary cache ( 10 seconds of data) for the data used in the weather animation.
Do not like this new version (2.0.0) at ALL. They are now all about the ad placement, and hounding you to purchase the upgrade. It seems they've completely forgotten about the radar and radar animation. Banner ads at the bottom, and hot buttons in the middle of the screen - each to tell the wonders and joys you'll receive by purchasing the upgrade... and block the screen display of the maps. I'll try to get my old version (1.5.2, which mysteriously stopped working when 2.0 came out) going again from backup. But, if I can't, I'll be moving on. I may move on anyway. The developer "New Stuff 4u" has a similarly named app with better layers and more features. It may allow me to combine the features of two weather apps into one....
I have the ad free version, however the ads keep showing up. None of the other features that are available for subscription only work and when I click on the stuff to subscribe, it says "you are already subscribed". I've sent multiple emails about this and haven't received a response nor has anything been fixed. I really like the full app if everything would work correctly.
Used to be great. I got wind direction and speed, lightning strikes, flood reports, all the info I needed. Dodging the adds was easy for all the benefits. But now you have to pay to access those features. And they still have adds running. Also no longer getting alerts in real time, now they show up only if I open the app. So I'm uninstalling and finding something else.
I signed up for the Premium Edition a few months ago. Everything was fine until today when, all of a sudden, ads started popping up, the lightning strike feature no longer works, and I'm told that I have to subscribe to the Premium version if I want to correct things. An attempt to use the "Report A Problem" link opens up a blank email that requires that I enter a recipient email address...which is nowhere to be found in the app. Time to stop payments and uninstall the app, apparently.
Used to be a very effective weather app for quick reference. Functionality is good and is designed well... BEWARE - a service that used to be free will now cost you $25 CAD at the "best price" in order to do anything other than a basic view (includes ridding yourself of ads). Very disappointing. Promptly deleting as there are many other free alternatives.
This app used to be great. Now they want to you to pay for the base line things like the storm trajectory and lightning strikes that were already included. Taking features we already had away just to make us start paying for them is a crappy way to conduct business. Also, if you're going to put a price on it, make it a one time fee, not a recurring cost. Or even a cheaper recurring cost. $.99 a month makes y'all look a lot less greedy when you're making people start paying for included features.
Used to be the best weather mapping app out there, and I have been using it for years. Since the most recent update all of the features that made it great are a paid premium subscription. I didn't care about the ads and wont pay for this app. At least give the user the ability to choose...free with ads or paid without ads. I will give then a bit to reverse this terrible decision. If they don't I'll be uninstalling. Lots of other options available.
Was great, latest update ruined it. Before the latest update, everything loaded fast and there were some small ads for revenue, but it was a great map with relevant notifications. Since the update, not only does it annoy you about the subscription, it's very slow to load if it loads at all. I might be interested in paying for it, but now the performance of the app is terrible. Will be looking for another weather app asap.
Downloaded this about a month ago and really liked it. It offered multiple radar options and layers, storm trackers and useful information. It just recently updated and now it offers one radar and nothing else. They changed everything to premium so now you have to pay to get the features that were free when originally downloaded. Nothing about a trial period or any indication that this would happen. Very disappointed.
Sad to see it leave, I depended on this app to help keep the road safe during winter weather. When drivig the roads you don't have time to sit and click through an app to get a quick update. The interface was clean and to the point, and gave more accurate readings than other radar apps, especially when it came to transitional(rain to snow to sleet) weather.
It was a great app until they added loads of adds which still wasn't terrible. But now they have added a pay wall for some of the features that had been standard on this and apps like it in the past. It was bad enough when they shut down intellicast and left us high and dry with a 1/3 of the maps and info it had on the site. Now they are finding even more way to make access to weather information difficult.
I've had this app for a while and loved it. They ended up requiring a subscription for all the features I used the app for in the first place. That was frustrating but I did it anyways because I loved the app. Now I'm in a tornado watch, everything said my monthly subscription is active, but all my features are locked. I clicked subscribe since that's my only option and it says that my "purchase" is being processes. Nothing is happening even after restarting my phone and waiting over an hour.
Instead of purchasing Storm Radar today, I am removing it from my tablet. It is to my mind one of the several best weather applications available for Android. It is also unfortunately overpriced. At $19.99 per year it is ten times more costly than either Weather Underground or WunderMap at $1.99 per year. Several of the key features that distinguish it from competitors have recently been moved from the free version to the "no ads" version. I'm going to reinstall WunderMap as its replacement.
it's cool and all, but you have to buy it, and then you get ads. On top of that, the alert notifications don't work. You click on it, and the alert opens, it the alert is completely different, or invalid. For example I got an alert for "Special Weather Statement", and when I opened it it said "This alert is invalid". I had to back out, reopen the alert manually, for it to show. Paid app, has ads, alerts fail. One star.
This app is good but not great. I find it annoying that the screen is cluttered with controls and popups that you have look around to see an already small radar display or an Ad. they should call this "peek at some radar" because that's what you can actually see with all the stuff in the way. This app is very frustrating. I feel it's more of a weather map tease than a useful tool.
The lack of weather fronts displayed on the map screen is a significant deficiency. Second, there is no ability to see wind stream patterns (the moving arrows, dots with trails, etc.) on the map display. I believe that both of these suggestions could be added as layers to the map display, giving the user the option of displaying them or not. Adding both would improve the app a lot.
Took all the basic features away and locked them behind a monthly subscription service. Hard pass. I have no problem paying a 1 time fee for a app. Especially with all the google credits i have. It wouldnt cost me anything anyway. But just out of principle the way they went about it. I see in the reviews others are uninstalling for the same reason. Time to go find a new weather app that is either free or a one time fee to purchase. Update: check out weather channel app. Its free. Same features
You have lost an app user. The layers feature hasn't worked on several of my devices for months. I get a notification about lightning just now, open the app and you are asking for money for a feature that hasn't worked in months, almost a year. When it did work, the strike markers in the map were incredibly inaccurate. Walking away from this.
Suddenly this app has disabled all but 1 free usage. The app is useless, unless you pay $20.00 per yrs or monthly fee. The one option that's still free seems to load slower now, on the free version too. If you fork out the absorbent fees, I wonder if all previous functionality will be enabled and as good as it used to be. This has been my favorite weather app, for several years. It worked really well, most of the time. Future radar was great to have.
