SUBARU STARLINK

The SUBARU STARLINK app works as a gateway to bring added content, such as Internet radio, weather, news, and more to your Subaru in-vehicle multimedia system. When new content becomes available, your STARLINK system is updated automatically and content is pushed to your screen in real-time. Available in all 2016 and later Subaru models. Also available on selected 2015 models. Please note that the STARLINK app must be started on your smartphone before you connect or pair it to your Subaru.(current as of November 17, 2016)

Subaru, you need to step up in both your apps. I've had nothing but issues with them.....basically they are trash. I've paired this app about 5 times and everytime I open the app, it claims I need to pair it with the vehicle. What's the point if it never works? And it seems, from the comments, that it has always had issues. Come on fix this

As someone very loyal to Subaru, this app is disappointing. I have never been able to use it for everything other than enabling my phone to connect through bluetooth. I don't even think that's what it's intended for. Yet occassionally my phone stops connecting and I have to reinstall the app to get it to connect again. I've never been able to get any of the other features to work. I'm currently reinstalling again because I haven't been able to get my phone to connect for weeks.

This app is worthless. Does almost nothing. It does have a "news" feature, which I thought I might use, but when I opened it I discovered that it does not play news audio - you actually have to READ the news on the screen! Not my style of driving. Even if the app had any value, it is certainly not intuitive and very difficult to use, thus not worth the trouble. I find nothing on the app that I'm not already to get elsewhere (maps, music, weather, news). Useless.

Magellan is clunky and slow, and reminds me of GPS systems from the late 90s / early 00s. "News" is just headlines; no audio, no video, no article. Yelp is there in case you want to use your car's display instead of your phone, I guess? The bird app helps you identify birds. The idea is slick -- bringing apps and navigation to otherwise "dumb" infotainment systems -- but the implementation and presentation are just awful.

The previous version worked fine in my 2017 Outback. The current update is flawed. The music player insists on restarting the first song in my playlist every time I use the player. When it advances to the next piece it tells me to reconnect and disallows access to the music player, even as it continues to play the new piece. Access to the playlist via the bluetooth connection works fine and does what I want. The weather app seems to be OK in my version of Starlink.

Update: Battery drain! Runs in the background after I've left my Outback. If this continues I'll be removing. I like that it allows me to get current weather on my car infotainment system. Problem is it continues to use battery all day when I'm not in my car. I'm also launching it every time my Bluetooth sees a connection with AutomateIt Pro. Otherwise it don't work. It would be nice if this shut down after not being connected to the car. Would love Android Auto to work on my 2017 Outback.

When I bought my '19 Outback, they praised the StarLink feature but still haven't gotten it to work. I had an "Encore Delivery" appointment scheduled as a follow-up review of the car features and the rep referred me to the service department. Based on other reviews, it's not worth the trouble. The app itself isn't intuitive and runs in the background as others have mentioned. I need to force close it. Seems like they completely rushed to roll it out. May be the worst app I've ever had

Subaru really blew it with this. The app and interface are absolutely worthless. It is very disappointing to have a new car with an on-board media system that simply doesn't function. Its clunky. The apps don't integrate with the voice commands in the car very well. The map system is Magellan, which you have to pay extra for and is subpar. The dealership even recommended just physically plugging in your phone and using Android Auto because of how shoddy this system is.

I have had my Subaru for 8 months and I have only gotten the Subaru Starlink to work 2-3 times. I have a Galaxy S9 phone that connects easily to everything else which leads me to believe that the issue is with this application. Not to mention, this app wants to run non-stop in the background of my phone. Usually I force it to stop, but this weekend I let it stay open on my phone even though I wasn't using my car. Nevertheless, Starlink still not working!

Giving app one star since no stars does not appear to be an option. App did not work in my vehicle. Also started having issues with Bluetooth connection once app was installed, was unable to hear caller and they heard a great deal of background noise from my end. Subaru has struggled with tech on their vehicles for a number of years. Please catch up to the rest of the auto industry. You make a good car, just have 20 year old tech integration

There's a few things you can do with this app when connected to a Subaru head unit. Kinda cool, not the most useful though. Definitely, designed to perform a function without considering the users experience. Which... I'm not entirely sure what it was intended to be. App likes to run persistently when disconnected from vehicles.

Useful but flawed. I like that they added long press launcher shortcuts to go directly to common tasks like start, lock, unlock, and locate. However the app takes too long to start and verify identity and can be frustrating. Needs google assistant integration so that I can use google home to start car. Can I also use this to rate the in vehicle dash system. There needs to be a way to say "please only use my phone for audio." There doesn't seem to be a way to avoid playing radio/cd/sirius while waiting (too long) for Android Auto to start.

Was curious what was this app about, so installed it and gave it a try. While I'm already able to play my music and use my phone function on Bluetooth, it took me a solid 30 minutes of turning on and off Bluetooth both on my phone and head unit, repairing my phone to my head unit before it did start. Lot of notifications from the app, my phone was vibrating almost all the time. When I was able to make it work, I wasn't really impressed either. Tried iHeartradio from head unit, it kept freezing.

Installed the app to connect with my 2016 Outback. Never could get it to connect, and then realized that my Pixel XL phone was no longer connecting to the Outback for calls. Tried numerous setting changes before I finally forced the app to stop, cleared the memory & cache then uninstalled the app - It STILL took several times, including two reboots, before my phone was finally able to connect to my Outback to use normally. Won't be trying this app again, unless there's an update and I suddenly see folks giving it 4-5 stars. For the record, this app fares no better in the Apple Store. If it connected, and then did everything it's *supposed* to do, that would be awesome; but it's just not happening.

The app keeps running in the background when not in use and when my car isn't connected or even turned on. I cannot figure out a way to change this or any setting in the app. Every time I do open the app, it asks me to finish the microserver but when I click yes, the app crashes. Overall, very frustrating and doesn't seem to add enough value to be worth the time and effort.

I have a brand new Subaru, but can't connect my navigation app or Android Auto. Android Auto remains grayed out, whether I'm connected by USB, bluetooth, or if bluetooth is off or on. I've reinstalled Subaru Starlink, cleared the memory, changed cables, and nothing works. Plus the application seems to run all the time. I liked my new Subaru until all this happened.

I didn't realize this app was an option with my 2016 Forester. Out of curiosity, I installed it and tried it. It is immeasurably terrible and I will be uninstalling it immediately. The interface and apps are slow, unattractive and unintuitive, and the value is negligible at best. I wish all car manufacturers, Subaru included, would go full bore on Android auto and Apple CarPlay and just stop making things like this. Stop maintaining this roll out some head unit updates for that instead?

Really Bad. I have been trying for the past hour to pair this with my car. The thing is, it is already paired with it. I also couldn't find any of the remote start capabilities I supposedly have with free 3 year subscription, couldn't even find them within the app. I am also being nagged for my credit card information. So essentially, all the app does is give you a health report. There is nothing useful in this app at all. Don't waste your time. Google Auto provides navigation. Not worth it

Using with Google Pixel in my 2016 Crosstrek. Connects well to display, but very limited apps are available. iHeartRadio works well. Calendar app errors when trying to log in to my Google account, so it is useless. Other apps may work, bit I don't have much use for Stitcher, the News app, or very limited Weather app. Would be nicer if they just mirrored the screen or offered a GPS nav.

Not sure what the bad reviews are about. I use this app twice daily. Both when I am going to work and then walking to my car after work. I never had any problems. Not everyone in NYC has a parking garage however this app that lets you start your car from any distance. Amazing! Another great and very useful feature is locate your car. Again, NYC tests your memory on daily basis. Where in the world did I park my car??? No need to walk around in the cold and rain. Locate, Start, and Enjoy the ride!

Leasing a 2017 Impreza, and surprised to see all the icons of stuff available in the pics. I don't have any of that. Won't connect at all 25% of the time, leaving me driving blind. No other map app I can see beyond Google maps. The thing is horrible. On top of this, the car has been in the shop for two weeks having the short block replaced due to oil consumption. That's two strikes on a 18 month old car.

Nothing works anymore!! My phone will connect call audio only. I cannot get music to play through Pandora app on car. I can connect through Bluetooth speaker but it is not consistent. Extremely frustrated with how things are working. I have a 2015 crosstrek. Everything worked fine until about 5 weeks ago.

Dia. H. Jan 12, 2019

completely useless now on my 2016 crosstrek. I have a galaxy note 8. can not connect to PANDORA via the app in the car. I have to connected via bluetooth audio only, so I loose all PANDORA features. In 2016 and about 1/2 of 2017 it worked ok. Then connectivity was only occasional now.... not at all. im suspecting it to be a galaxy note compatibility issue but this is a popular update bit of technology so... it shouldn't be an issue.

Subaru should be embarrassed about their suite of "helpful" apps for their vehicles. This app is incredibly buggy; nothing works correctly the first time (or ever), and updates are pushed out, at best, twice a year (see last update on Oct. 29, 2018 - it's now March 2, 2019...). If you're a Subaru owner and want to use Starlink, you don't have a choice except to not use it - but avoiding the only app that works with the car you bought shouldn't be a choice you should have to make.

Luk. M. Jul 18, 2019

please up date this app or put out a decent, working firmware update with a better alternative (google carplay) with a simple phone screen mirror feature for the cars. this app is archaic, sluggish and basically useless. none of the car "apps" are any good. it's better just to use Bluetooth for music and and gps sound and have to look at the phone screen every so often.

jul. h. Oct 28, 2021

I have never seen any of the options that are in the pictures. When I get in my car it says it is connected but then my car shows me nothing on the screen. Saying it is not connected. Also it tells me all the time to contact support.when I call support they say my account is fine and it is a glitch essentially. I mainly only use it for the auto start. Which doesn't work all the time either.

t. c. May 25, 2021

Garbage. Waste of time trying to get it to connect and the rare times it does there's nothing useful available. Android Auto rarely connects either. Seems Subaru's connectivity is still an afterthought. All you'll end up with is a screen that gives you access to the radio.
