Was a great app for checking the waves, just had to deal with the 30 second add which was fine, now the format has changed to 3 checks per week which is no good to anyone that has to drive 30mins to get to the ocean. Just another way to grab more money from the one's you initially set out to help . I've had it for around 8 months now I'll be deleting it!
This app used to be great, you could check waves as many times as you liked and it really helped knowing when to go out but now its dreadful! Theres a limit to 3 surf checks per week! The rest have to be bought with a yearly subscription which I cant afford, they are simply more concerned with money making than surfing, I no longer use this app and I'm disappointed in the new business model.
First they tried to plaster it with ads every few seconds, now it's a limited number of views. Id pay for premium if the cameras were maintained better but on the sunshine coast they are terrible quality or down half the time so it's not worth the investment.
Like the other person said. You now only get a few free looks every month and have to pay if you run out. I would happily pay if it was $10 a year, hell, even $20 a year would be fine. But $78 a year is a joke. I had no problem with the way it used to be (only getting 30 seconds of footage from the cams before you had to watch an ad). I honestly wouldn't even care if you had to watch a minute long ad every time you looked at any report. Would give this review a zero if it was possible
I had a premium account for a while but the camera quality was terrible and the surf conditions were never even close to accurate. So I went to free account with ads , now still have ads but only 3 uses per week, unless.
Does Surfline have an Android developer? There is always something with this app. Crazy amounts of Ads even with my premium subscription (I've since let expire). Currently, it's 100% non functional because nothing will load. Better off checking the tides through Chrome and driving to the beach.
This is possibly my second time writing a review in the last 7 year's. Every year this app restricts more what a free user can do. The free surfline app is now limited to a fix number of forecast checks during a week. There are other apps that allow longer / more accurate forecast than surfline. I rarely write reviews, but if you want to save an extra $99.99 US dollars a year in unaccurate surf forecast, look elsewhere. If you want to look at cams for a $99.99/month, this app is for you
I appreciate this app and the work behind it, however, most cameras are either low quality, lagging or not working at all (Gold Coast Australia). The forecast lacks live winds which is probably the most important metric. And unfortunately the most recent update has made the app useless, as pointed out by others. In my opinion, it's too expensive for what the app offers at the moment.
Pay wall keeps getting pushed forward, all spots used to be free, then they paywalled everyone's favorite breaks. I guess that wasn't enough, now they're trying to force your hand into premium with only "5 surf checks" a week... This is ridiculous. People are willing to pay what they think your service is worth if you give them the option instead of forcing it upon them.
App continually wouldn't open. Updated, then removed and reloaded, still same issue. Then after reading all the other reviews I've decided to just delete and find something else to use. Don't waste your time
I have been a premium member for over 10 years. The mobile app has improved tremendously over the years (especially for android.) My issue is with the new beta update. The screen rotation is strangely sensitive and rotates vertical unless the phone is totally horizontal and almost perpendicular to the ground. Also the spots with multiple cams that can be switched back and forth are gone for some reason as well. Overall still the best forecasting app but the new beta version needs more work.
It does tell you when there are waves, but they change the real wave height just to match their forecast. For example, I checked this, and saw the waves were 2-4 ft, so I skipped the session, and the next day I looked at pictures, and the waves had been almost double overhead. I do not recommend this app as a surf forecasting app.
Fantastic app, but extremely better on iOS. The android version is so much worse and has practically half of the useful features as it's iOS counterpart. I pay for surf line premium, which I love, but on android you don't get specific spot reports, no ideal conditions information, no cam rewind, no pinch zoom in, and more missing features. It's a shame how much worse an app can be from one platform to another.
Used this app many years now. *Don't download or update! The new app is as bad as closeout sets on your head, I can't find the biweekly videos on my local breaks around venice, the wind charts are worse. Also Now the rotation is messed up on my note 10 and quickly goes back to vertical with the slightest movement after I rotate to horizontal. Update... Now the weekly and weekend forcasts don't show up on any spots as they did before and I can't even find the cast in the news or video sections.
The predictions are mostly accurate but the app does not work well. It is littered with bugs and glitches all over the place. If you can even get the app open, half the time you still won't be able the view data. Additionally, there are many missing features like can rewind which cannot be acessed.
This was going to be my default surf app and I was going to pay the 10$ but a week later they raised the price! I'm glad I didn't go with this. I really liked the app so it's a shame to delete it.
Limited "surf check" is lame. It was useful when it was free. However, limiting it to five app usage sessions per month is worthless, especially if you surf daily . There are other free apps and websites that are unlimited and better.
It was a good app but they changed it a few weeks ago. Now you can only check the surf three times a week, and by that I mean you can only open up a surf spot 3 times a week.
App doesn't work at all, will not load when it opens. Such a waste of money paying for premium when the cams are always down and now the app doesn't load.
Used to been good now you only get 3 views per week unless you pay for the way over priced subscription service.
Huge pay wall. Can't do anything with it except check wave size. Maybe rethink your subscription model as I'm not paying $100/yr just to check what I'm interested in which is wind and tide data. Edit for response: That's the exact issue. If the spot checks reset per week it would make it more usable. Or, if you charged less to exclude cam access, that would be more sensible. Whoever revamped your subscription model clearly cares more about profit than long term sustainability of the app.
