With this new app we cannot set up complex intervals, with varying durations, that are essential to progress through training. Honestly! What's wrong with a good old download of the data through USB to the PC, and visualization in a web page! Please bring it back! Where can we get help with the issue of not pairing?!
Updated review. Some reviews let me hope for a more polished experience. Well, don't upgrade if you've got an Ambit3 watch, essential features are missing. No more structured workouts, no more customization of the watch screen. Sync works ok but for that you've got a service that runs all the time even when you don't need it, using bluetooth in the process, clashing with other apps like TrainerRoad for instance (uninstall Suunto = problem solved)
Since I changed mobile and upgraded to android10, it is very difficult to pair the watch (Suunto ambit peak 3) I re tested with my old mobile phone, using an older Android 9, and it pairs like a charm .... But this is also the older add :) Guys, this is highly disappointing, can't you just hire a freelance developer and fix that ? That's a shame. Also, sports mode cannot be customised, not sure why. It was possible with Movescount
Not the best. It's functional but lacks a lot of features that other map and fitness apps have. Syncing seems to take a long time (to be fair it could be because I have an ambit 3 that is several years old). It would be nice if you could search a trail, mountain, or city and have it automatically jump to that spot on the map like you could with movescount. You have to plug it in to sync routes you create. It would also be nice if you could create segments like you can in Strava.
Downloaded this to sync some new routes with my Ambit2. First, it doesnt seem to see any of the existing routes in my watch, so I have no way to remove old routes or POIs. Second, despite multiple attempts to sync, none of the new routes or POIs I create and select for sync in the new Suunto App are sent to my watch. So, my Ambit2 has lost the ability to update nav routes. Terrible. My watch has lost one of the primary features I purchased it for. 25 year Suunto customer. Looking for new brand.
The software works well and the transfer from watch to software is easy, automatic, and effortless. The 3D view of your route displays as if you are in a helicopter flying around the route. Nice display. But... The watch gathers tons of data but the software displays the graphs with time on the x-axis. It would be nice if the company allowed for distance to be displayed on the x-axis too. For example, you cannot move the thru the data and display Heart Rate vs distance, only vs. time. There is no way to examine a section of the route and determine the distance between two points. You can only determine the time difference between points. For me to determine the distance within a route, I need to import into another software like Komoot. This too is effortless once an account is made (for free), but it would be best if the Suunto App could handle that. Maybe the software engineers could provide both time and distance based graphical displays in future upgrades.
The app is much improved sence initial use in 2019. There is a much broader feature set and no stability issues. The personal heat maps are awesome. Event and training data is well recorded and presented. Helpdesk is limited in problem resolution. Basically guide you through information provided in user manuals. While the app offers a map route planning capability it is very limited and difficult to work with on a small screen surface. A web mapping platform allowing FIT file exchange is needed
Useless as one cannot set personal HR zones within the App (It should be able to set up in the App when e.g. using the Ambit 3 Peak). Thus calories burnt is totally incorrect. Suunto is pathetic in the sense that the Ambit 3 Peak users are not accommodated. The App is becoming worse and worse. The last week or two my excercises just do not sync. You restart the cell phone, Unpair and re-Pair the App and the watch, but all is to no avail. Only worked connecting to SuuntoLink. What a hassle.
Ambit3 peak: Downloading of exercises from watch works (even if the watch keeps reminding me to sync moves after I just did this), but uploading of routes does not, as I had to figure out in help screen after almost going mad by trying this. How can I use the navigation when on a spontanous trip = no PC at hand? Second very annoying fact, the app crashes very often especially in route planning mode (Samsung Tab S2) I like this simple and robust watch but I'm actually checking Garmin devices!
Unusable with the Ambit 3. Resyncs old activities, constantly prompts me for notification access even though it's not necessary for syncing, sometimes doesn't sync at all. Really great to be left out in the cold because I have an older (albeit excellent) watch.
I don't get it. Suunto is one of the top sport watch vendors in the world. Advertisement is top notch, watches cost a lot of money. People except quality and support. However you guys leave customers without essential functionality, apps are buggy as hell, all routes are gone. New app - routes stuff does not work (does not sync). I am using older Ambit3 Peak. Does that mean, that I should be RESPECTED less than a new model's owner? Suunto customer apps - a joke (just a little description in another language). And is it so hard to present and store steps somewhere in the apps history? (why this feature is not supported for ambit3 ??). Looks like your business model is going the wrong way. Advertise -> SELL, then avoid customers problems. Gonna switch to Garmin or other vendor for my another watch.
Edited 2022: the app was improved greatly. Now it more user friendly and lots of nice features added. Very not intuitive and bugy. Sometimes logs out by itself, and if that doesn't make you annoyed enough, so you can't login afterwards, because there's only sign up option. Everytime the app logs out [about once a month] I need to reinstall it to get the login option. I miss the movescount website so much...
App doesn't sync properly. The Suunto App used to be great. For years it would sync without fail, but in the last 12 months the App won't sync recent exercises (I have to plug my watch to the computer). I love the watch and will upgrade to the 9 but can't say I like the sync compatibilities on the phone. Also I prefer the old 3D view of my exercises.
Syncing of exercises is very erratic and if they don't sync there simply isn't anything to do about it. The app also has very limited uses. The app and suunto link will be the reason for myself to go to Garmin for my watch upgrade.
One year ago the app wasn't working properly, had quite often several bugs. Since an update it's working well, also the surface and usability have much more improved!
My new Suunto7 is great, except it constantly looses connection to the Suunto app. In the app it finds the watch with out any issues but pairing won't work. I have to either restart the watch or sometimes re install the app, daily! Otherwise, I have no connectivity issues with the watch, connecting Bluetooth devices works well. I had a more basic Suunto prior to the 7, which worked without fail with the app. Very frustrating.
The app could do no wrong at first but at least twice in the last year I've had issues syncing with partner services that have seemed irresoluble. When you try to either update or uninstall and install the app again it has trouble performing either operation. Perhaps they affect every Suunto at the same time because after my latest snafu with the watch social media was awash with similar complaints. Perhaps it is a back office IT issue?
For some time now (maybe 4 weeks) the activities replay function isn't working properly for longer activities, especially skiing. In 3D view (very nice feature in principle) the camera view loses the moving dot for about half of the time. Would love to see that fixed. Besides that great app. Best regards *suunto 7 **2D view is working properly again, better now even! 3D view as well!
Entirely put off Suunto due to this app. The platform is no longer supported on the Web browser - which was a phenomenal resource. Now we're forced to use an app that refuses to work, for everything. Will change to Coros watches once my Suunto dies. Very disappointed
Support for Ambit 3 disappered. Basic connectivity works, but all Features and customization options have been dropped. Where are custom sports modes? Custom views?
Now ot is becoming more and more useless. Not able to connect watch Ambit 3 sports. I think NEED TO SHIFT GARMIN Very disappointing app. When the importance of VO2 Max and EPOC is described in Ambit 3 user manual and was shown in Movescount web app why not considered in this App ? This is not a advancing services to customer but going backward. VO2 Max and EPOC are most important paramaeters to know the fitness level and progress. Hope this app will show VO2 Max and EPOC in real time on graph.
Good app but more room to be better. (1) clock on activities screen should make it bigger ... Too small or i'm too old. (2). Tracing activities vdo should be able to export/save to phone. (3) 4-elements activities screen, should have 2big2small display option. The 2 focus numbers will be more clear.
Good job.You managed to ruin SO MANY FEATURES with this app, but first and foremost - who thought that planning route on your mobile is good idea? Who thought that it was good idea to REMOVE IT COMPLETELY from PC ? Good luck trying to plan anything, god forbid if you need to be pinpoint accurate on your 6" screen. This app with no PC support is pure downgrade to qol, usability and features compared to old moveslink. Looks like my next watch is Garmin.
The watch is nice but the user experience to push an itinerary was awful and got worse. Previously, i would have to go on a website, create the route and then connect the watch by usb, which is not very convenient while on the go. Now i have to use the app on my phone, which isn't as easy because we lack a mouse, but probably better while hiking, right? Excep we still have to plug the watch to the PC usb to sync! Also all the route have to be exported and reimported, one by one...
