Sword of the Slayer

Fight monsters and free the ancient city with your enchanted talking sword!

You’re a common orphan scraping a living on the streets of Targas Adur—a city older than memory, full of dark corners and darker magics, ruled by a merciless Sorcerer King, Demorgon. While exploring one of those dark corners, you stumble upon...the sword, an ancient weapon of power. And it can talk, in a voice only you can hear.

"Sword of the Slayer" is 185,000-word interactive fantasy novel by S. Andrew Swann, where your choices control the story. It's entirely text-based—without graphics or sound effects—and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

Dark creatures do as Demorgon bids, and his royal guard keeps order with an iron fist. All gods and temples are suppressed except for his own Dark Tabernacle. But with the re-emergence of the sword, Demorgon’s power may be waning. Evil monsters invade the city, and sections of Targas Adur have fallen to their influence. It’s up to you to slay them.

You must train yourself in sword-fighting to protect the ones you love, as you battle the demons of Targas Adur, including the dread White Wyrm. Thrust into the role of monster-slayer, you find yourself the focus of decadent nobles who want to return to power, devoted monks who want to see the gods return to the city, and—most troubling—you now have the attention of the Sorcerer King himself.

Will you become a foe of the monsters, a threat to Sorcerer King’s regime, or a hope for the forces trying to bring down his rule? Or will you give yourself over to the sword, losing control of your mind and body?

• Play as male, female, or non-binary; gay, straight, bi, or asexual
• Rise from the gutter to the highest level of power
• Support the gods, the nobles, or a rival sorcerer for the rule of the ancient city
• Bring back the gods or fight the Great White Wyrm when you enter the Dark Tabernacle
• Make allies in your quest to free the city
• Protect your childhood friend, and your swordsman trainer from capture and death
• Face monsters of all sorts, up to the Sorcerer King himself
• Save your place before a chapter and you can return to that point after the story’s end and try a different set of choices

An enchanted sword. An ancient evil. A hero waits.

This game was fun in the first few chapters because it was hitting all the fantasy tropes but then it just never develops beyond that. You can guess whats going to happen next most of the time, making the right choice for your stats was never a challenge, and all the characters are some of the flattest Ive seen in one of these games with no development that isnt forced. 2 stars cause i did finish it having a decent time but theres no replay value and not worth full price in my opinion.

That save system was genius. The story it self was above average. But really the save system made playing so much less of a chore if you accidentally select a difrent option than you ment to. It's nice not to have to go through the whole thing again cause I said "f you" when I wanted to say "sorry"

The short description is that the book is just average. Weak character development, extremely basic fighting and a weak payoff at the end. An okay read, but there are better options out there.

An enjoyable fantasy romp. I loved every moment of this! It may not break new ground, but not every story needs to reinvent the wheel. Sometimes it's just fun to turn your brain off and fight some demons with your talking sword.

Shallow and disappointing. Even CoG's earliest games had more to offer than this. Calling the characters one dimensional would be too much praise, they are barely even cardboard cutouts. The story is like something a kid would make up, just a bunch of generic fantasy tropes and zero substance. Its entirely railroaded too and your choices are pointless. Hard avoid, probably one of the crappiest CoG games

It's well written, but the plot isn't particularly "fresh". Basically, the MC finds a magical, talking sword and bonds with it. But the sword is endearing alright. A complaint I have is that a secondary character, who is a witch possessed by some dark force, isn't well fleshed-out. She appeared only twice or trice in the story, including at the end. Those are the only times the MC can briefly interact with her. Yet the MC can speak to her like they really care about her at the end. It's jarring.

The story here wasn't anything groundbreaking, but I enjoyed it. It's a typical fantasy story. I really liked the implantation of the saving system, so when misclicked I didn't have to start over entirely.

It was fun there is not transphobia or antilgbt anything I don't know what's going on with that but it isn't happening. I played through the game as nb successfully romanced and I have four stars here because it's short and character development is not the best but otherwise a fine game.

It's an alright CYOA, nothing exceptional but still entertaining. The ending seemed a bit abrupt and rushed and the character interactions were a bit shallow, I wish the author put a bit more work in these. 6/10

When I first got this game I saw a lot of reviews bashing it and the developers for not being sensitive enough to LGBT and women. In playing it I saw nothing of the kind. As Choice of Games has always been good about giving LGBT options in their games, I'm concerned the reviews were submitted by bots or people with a political agenda... Anyway, the game itself is pretty good. It's a bit fast-paced and simplistic in writing, but still a solid addition to Choice of Games' library.

It was pretty fun. I liked the letter from Ragdar (Radgar?) It made me tear up a bit. I do wish the side characters had more plot though they were a little one dimensional.

Very fun. Not the best written but a good adventure. Decent bit of fighting and multiple choices. Lot of endings as well. I enjoyed this one.

The story is OK. But I purchased this game some time ago and can't get back my access to the game, have to pay again. Hence I am strongly dissapointed. 4.29 GBP is not much, but this is not the first game from this app I have this issue with.

His is a game with an illusion of choice. Nothing really matters and everything is quite trashy. At this point you should just write a book or something because it ain't even an adventure at all. You just follow a story that is non existent.

Definitively the best interactive novel I've played. Choices you make have a real, and well written, impact on the story.

A bit strait forward but enjoyable story.the endings are different and based on your choices. A solid buy.

I love me some magical talking swords. Seriously though. I loved it and everything about it. Short but very satisfying.

I enjoy the options and storyline that this game has. The abilities and relationships are fun to try to raise.

Honestly it's fairly short but it's way funner than I thought it would be. Also talking sword and me are best friends.

I don't understand the save feature on this thing, I used it once but couldn't load up to the part which I had saved.

Dal. m. Oct 10, 2019

Super short hoped that despite the amount of words in the book there would be a second but unfortunately it ended quick

Another engaging fantasy story in CoG! And it seems they finally executed the save point option pretty well.

Keeps crashing, can't even have the app up for a minute.
