Swype Keyboard

This was the best keyboard. I wish it could continue being the best keyboard. I most appreciate the ability to use keyboard shortcuts and the ability to select a word with one button. I have tried others but continued to use this one, all this time without updates, but it's now unfortunately getting too buggy to use. It will be a difficult transition.

Still using it in 2022. Precision and dictionary are limited, but it has some great gestures that no other keyboard has still adopted. In google's it requires 2 key press for a question or exclamation mark. With this one you get them with one instant swipe. The same for selecting all, selecting the last word, switching to numerical keyboard, cursor mode, copying, pasting, and so on.. all of that just for one single swipe. Still unmatched by other keyboards. It's a shame it has been discontinued.

I loved and supported this app since my very first Android phone, but it doesn't hold up anymore. The backup & sync function doesn't work, hasn't in ages. The word accuracy has deteriorated to the point of more frustration than success. The fact it hasn't been updated since 2019 says a lot. I don't regret buying it when I did, but I don't think Nuance plans to fix any of this.

Voice-to text quit working. I've used this for years ever since being introduced to it as an included app on a smart phone years ago. It was well worth the price mostly due to the voice-to-text transcription. I purchase it for several Android devices and the voice function has stopped on all of them after a recent update. My rating will go back up of this gets fixed.

This app has not been updated since 2018. I've been a fan of this keyboard for so long, it was always my first download when upgrading phones. I just downloaded it on my Pixel 6 and the Swype feature no longer works, predictive text is turning everything into my email address, and half the time it just plain refuses to load. I don't want to move on, but I think it's time to find a new keyboard.

When I first downloaded this app I loved it. I purchased the Star Trek themed keyboards and they were awesome. The predictive text was so much better and more accurate than the Samsung Keyboard. But then after one of the updates some time back, I could no longer access the store and all my purchased themes disappeared and the predictive texts started automatically changing my words to strange things. I kept waiting for the issues to be fixed, but it's been months and I still have NONE of the purchased themes and I can't access the store. This morning, my phone notified me that Swype was activating the mic and listening to me while my phone was locked! I'm done with this keyboard! It's nothing like it was when I first downloaded it, and the features I liked have been changed or taken away. Buh bye, Swype.

Best keyboard I've used. But I think it's time to switch. It used to do everything I wanted it to do...with ease. But the developer has abandoned a great product. Now if I type a sentence with the letter "a" by itself, I often have to go back and put a space in. And I kept wondering why words I had added to the dictionary I had to add again. It is great color choices and adaptability too. Sad. Now I have to go looking for a new keyboard after all these years.

I've used this keyboard across five phones and I can say that it works very well for me. Partly this is due to being well designed, and partly this is because I've learned how to use it well. Having tried other keyboards that have a drag to type option, I have yet to find one that has as many of the features I want as Swype. It's not perfect, and there are aspects that annoy me, but it's good enough to keep using across a decade and to recommend to others.

Great app which I use all the time. The reason is not 5 stars is that at the last update it lost all my language and settings features. It would be very useful to have this automatically saved and no need to reenter this. Also, sometimes (around updates I think) the keyboard does not appear for some reason. Need to restart my phone to make it work again. Finally, when using two languages at the same time, some simple words are just impossible to write. Dictionary has lots of trouble to identify them. As I said, apart from these minor grievances, all good, have been using Swype for many years now.

Liked earlier versions better. Bought with hope. First thing that went wrong was the voice keyboard disappeared; need to find out if that can be added back or that feature is no longer supported. Prediction is poorer than before, sometimes choosing a word that I never heard of or use. I need to find a setting to delete words from its dictionary; unlikely. Idea is great; Samsung S8+ implementation is frustrating.

So sad to learn that this app is no longer supported. It's still plenty functional, I have purchased it on multiple devices with different platforms, and the android version is the best. This is the most suitable and comfortable to use on a mobile phone, since swiping across a large tablet screen is much more tiresome. I'll keep on using this app as long as I can even though it'll not be updated in the future.

I have used Swype-Dragon on every phone I have used for the last 12 years or maybe more. Having said that, I have just in the hast 3 months begun to have all kinds of problems with the app. Voice to text has left the building so to speak and even the keyboard functions are deluded. You can't touch and hold a key and type a secondary character like you used to be able to do and believe it or not the is the major loss to me personally because I used those functions probably more than any.

I love the word choices compared to the standard Samsung keyboard. I've used this app on 3 Galaxy phones. Recently it stopped working. My phones mic works fine, but when I switch is to Swype and hit the mic button, the yellow flame circle lights up for ascot a half second and then it stops. I'll tap to speak and the same thing happens. Ugh! I don't really want to go back to the Samsung keyboard! I've restarted and the app is updated. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

Swype used to be great; however, it hasn't been updated for 18 months and seems to have been forgotten (like a ghost-town). I used to love the fact that I could sync my personal dictionary across devices; however, the server that performs the sync function won't accept the required code generated by the app on my new phone, and clicking on the company's website link for their support forum takes you to a page that doesn't exist. Sadly, I guess it's time to look for another swipe-based keyboard!

So sad this app has been discontinued :( The swiping, the shortcuts, auto language detection, easy capitalization change, easy punctuation via swipe to the keyboard are so very helpful. It's only recently been getting a little buggy, but that's pretty good considering the last update was over a year and a half ago. Now it sometimes adds random extra characters or words while I'm typing. Now Im gonna have to settle for the Samsung default keyboard, but it's not the same 😕 gone but not forgotten

This used to be my favorite keyboard app. It's still my favorite keyboard but no longer my favorite app. There's not enough support. It hasn't been updated in a year. I switched phones and am unable to get my dictionary to sync because their service hasn't synced it in two years. I also can't restore my theme purchases because there's no option to do so and the theme store doesn't load anymore. What happened? Please get back to work on this app because the keyboard still has the best design of any I've tried!

best keyboard. it was hard to find this time. i searched play store for "Swype", yet it didn't show up in the results. i have 3 different devices running 3 different android versions all linked to same Google account all with same issue. i found it by scrolling through my library sorted in alphabetical order. i haven't tried searching for it under a different account, that hasn't previously installed.

I've been using this app for ages. And I've been really pleased with it, both the Swype part and the speech recognition. But recently, the speech recognition stopped working. It refuses to switch on the microphone (and yes, it does have permission to use the microphone). I hope it'll get sorted soon because this is a real nuisance.

Swype had so much potential. For years it was the first (?) and only good choice in swiping keyboard apps. But for several years now it has felt slow and relatively unmaintained. It does an incredibly poor job of recognizing words even on my fourth, fifth, sixth (!!) tries, and that is despite its claim to learn usage patterns from the user. The custom local dictionary feature that is supposed to learn new words that you use does not save itself and starts over empty when the app updates. Ugh.

Great app, quick 'typing' for people with big fingers on small smartphone keyboards. [UPDATE - 2021] Well..., used to be great... It's rapidly becoming less and less accurate. I really start to dislike the edits (assumptions/interpretations) afterwards. Swyped some text already, you don't notice that some words are replaced by Swype, thinking you mean something else. Also it used to be spot on in my mother language, but that had deteriorated very fast and only 'guesses' 1in 4 swipes right.

WAS great. NOW, voice-to-text stopped. Personal dictioary is gone. Settings sync broken (I thought I could restore to get voice working.) App can't connect to internet, I suspect this is the reason for voice loss. Therefore, can't connect to your account online, so all years of speech & word personalization are gone. Local data folder is gone. NOTE: Contrary to other reviews, this app HAS NOT BEEN UPDATED SINCE 2018!! What a loss. Completely useless.

Abandoned? I've used this since it was the original type-by-swiping keyboard, at least 5 years. It's glitchy on Android 10 (Pixel 2), failing to pop up when needed, especially after phone restart but consistently in some apps. It's also behaving oddly on Android 9 on Galaxy Tab S5e, randomly changing theme. Hard for me to give it to because all the shortcuts are in muscle memory and dictionary is well customized. But the failures are pushing me towards seeking alternatives.

I used it for many years without any issues. In for languages. Recently the audio stopped working. I would press the mic but it wouldn't turn on. I decided to uninstall and reinstall again just now. I did. After I open it, It says it cannot connect to their servers... I have had to uninstall it again. This time for good... Shame

It used to work amazingly well on my last several phones. On the now 9, no matter what I do I keep getting odd symbols and numbers popping up instead of what I spelled. It's like it doesn't recognize my finger is moving until after the secondary options popped up. I've changed all of the settings and nothing helps. It would probably be an easy fix if Nuance hadn't ABANDONED swype in February...

Freakin' awesome. Even more awesome since I can continue to use it even when the internet says it is no longer available. SwiftKey and Gboard appear to be the only serious contenders. SwiftKey's dictionary is easier to customize but I dislike its voice interface. And vice-versa with Gboard. And neither are as good as Swype. Please don't go, Swype!

Used to be very good, except the installation. Unfortunately this has not improved over the years, on the contrary. At every Android update, it needs re-installing, the languages are very difficult to set up again correctly, the whole settings are lost, strange messages are given like no network, failed to download items... In comparison of today's alternative, I don't see any advantage that outweights those recurrent problems.

Does not perform as well as it did originally. Possibly trying to be more predictive, but it chooses words I've only used once or never over more common words (e.g. tio instead of to). Also my version came with Dragon which is easily one of the most user unfriendly talk-to-text apps I've used. Lags constantly and then gives up without displaying any text or goes inactive in the middle of use. I could really do without it, but I haven't found a way to deactivate it.
