Lots to improve: the general browsing of the app, the uploading/downloading of even small files (read kB), and the app loading in itself, is incredibly slow. The main selling point of this service is its privacy. If the user experience gets better, even bearable, and the downloads don't take incredibly long time to occur, this would be the best private service out there after Google Drive. Edit: speed is a little better after some updates, not ideal at all though
Have been using this app for a few months on phone and have the desktop app as well, I think the price for a year's subscription is good for 2 terabytes. However the app on phone and desktop really ne3d to he sorted out, more so on phone, as you have a panel that obscures some options within the app. Half the time it doesn't upload content especially music. And the desktop app is slow at uploading. Will think about renewing next year. ATM I wouldn't.
Worked ok for a bit. Paid for the full upgrade for unlimited storage. Sometimes files will upload no problem but then other files won't for some odd reason. I've had big files that sometimes uploaded with no problem and then smaller files that kept saying failed to upload file. Wouldn't recommend. I wanna download the stuff I already put up in sync and re-upload using another service and then cancel with sync. Wouldn't recommend wish I could give 0 stars.
If I open a document and make edits to it I can't hit the save button back to the cloud drive. So basically the app is read only files. That's painful is there a plan to fix this basic functionality? I'd be happy to buy the premium plan if this works.
Update: The app won't download any files - pdf, doc, docx, etc., and I'm unable to open them. This has been going on for several months. Please fix. Old review: I love the end to end encryption - that's why I moved over from Dropbox. Love the ability to keep local or just in the cloud. The "Vault" is confusing and I don't see how it differs from cloud or local storage so I do not use that function. App, desktop and web portal all super easy to use. Thanks, Dev. Great product.
I like Sync in spite of it not being supported inside other apps as are the major players. I would like the ability to upload images only from a specific folder. If I've shot a lot of images, I want to get rid of duds and duplicates before they're automatically uploaded, and it's easier to do that on my phone than on Sync. After culling the images, I could dump them into that specific folder, and leave them to upload.
Phone & Tablet app used to work flawlessly - both upload and download - but they both have not been working for a few months now and it's maddening. The very reasons to have an app access your cloud account are not working! Please fix! Have been a loyal paying customer for going on 5 yrs now and have loved everything about Sync....until their apps starting getting buggy last year. I have to USB my phone to pc to copy files to/from my sync folder.....you realize how stupid that is, right?
I bought a 2TB plan. The app is fully functional but I would love to have more file sorting and filtering options such as Z-A. I am also not able to select multiple files. I do love having all my files stored securely and privately on the cloud. The desktop version works perfectly.
Was ok for a week or two, since last update I can't upload anything. Just goes to 99% then fails.
Used it for years, but this year when I went to renew the paid subscription their website wouldn't allow me to change any of my billing info. If I can't do that I can't renew and am now looking for a new provider. Not pleased that I have to do all that uploading all over again.
Since last 1/2 an hour app exits automatically while browsing files. Can't see or upload files.
Good cloud service but horrible mobile app. A lot of bugs and missing features. You can't even download multiple files at once. Unfortunately I can no longer justify the price and am in transition to move to Tresorit.
The Auto Camera upload setting uploads all media including pics and vids sent via WhatsApp etc. This is a showstopper for me, there is no option to limit it to just photos I take on the phone. I have been looking for a Dropbox replacement and this app ticks most of the boxes but I can't live with this issue
Two complaints coming from Dropbox, 1 would be a dark mode for the app, the White is blinding in the dark and 2 have missing having a photos section that just shows all your photos without having to go into the photos folder.
I cannot upload files that are more than 400 MB in size via the mobile app. Thus I cannot backup or sync my videos on my phone. This is a critical bug which you have to fix asap!!!
Well, it still works well for uploading from the phone and seeing my files, which is good. But downloads aren't working at all now, which means it is a half functional app at best
App is the weakest link. Desktop apps work fine, website works fine. Can't download any file using the app, support doesn't seem to respond. Uploads don't work either.
Also during upload phase, the error message from Google Play: Close app or Wait pops up alot...Sync needs to fix the bugs and update the bare bones interface on their website and app.
I have used Sync for a few years, and have generally been happy with the service they offer. That said, their app is absolutely horrible. After we were unable to sync files and folders on multiple devices, we uninstalled the app and then reinstalled it. Now the app refuses to let me log into my account. An ongoing issue with the Sync service is how s-l-o-w it can be to upload files to the service. I try to work around this when I am simply moving files from my local drive to the vault by creating a temp folder and then moving the files within Sync on their website. While the sync can take a long time, the move is very fast. Uploading one or a few files on-demand is extremely slow.
Every kind of file sync service except the biggest ones seem to have their own unique and exotic problems. This one is no exception, as it will without warning start renaming files and folders (Windows) adding "READONLY-CONFLICT-1" to the end of the names, and then not sync them. The only thing that happened since it last worked is the passage of time. If this persists then I must say that "sync" is completely unrealiable and I wouldn't spend money on the service. Sad, as it's one of the few ones offering privacy.
I have used this app for a while now. Love the simple UI but syncing large file(100MB) is a tad slow. And the biggest let down is after syncing is complete, there is no quick preview and it will take ages to download the file after finally allowing the user to see; which is really not the ideal app to use when you need to access files quickly. I hope you guys improve it as it has a lot of potential
I've had zero problems with the app or any other part of Sync's service. I researched cloud storage intensely before I chose Sync. The point is encryption, privacy, and sharing via encrypted links. Sync is well worth the money, well designed, & packed with features. If you couldn't care less about privacy or encryption and don't mind that Google, Microsoft, Dropbox, etc., can view all of your data then maybe Sync isn't for you. There are cheaper options out there that aren't privacy focused.
I'm giving 5 stars because I love what their mission is which is the only reason I signed with them! But their app needs a LOT of work! The features are sorely lacking and you cannot create text files through sync like you can through dropbox and that's just the beginning. I'm sticking with them for security but I hope they make it easy and not difficult for me to stick with them!
I'm a bit disappointed in the Android implementation of this service. I can't see any way of mapping a shared folder. This is a nuisance because the Sync app photo viewer isn't very good, and it would be nice to be able to use an alternative viewer. Sync makes much of their 'Office compatibility', but it doesn't appear on the list of third-party cloud servers within the Office apps. (I know Sync have no control over that, but why pretend it works better than it does?) Hoping for improvements!
I've been using this service for a year now and I've decided to buy a plan because I think the service is good. End to end encryption cloud service at a fair price. I love the camera roll feature and the vault most of all. 4 starts though because the app could be much better in my opinion, it doesn't look and feel as it as been developed much in the last year especially the UX/UI is not the most modern out there. Still I've paid it to encourage the devs to push this much further this next year.
App freezes every time I open it on my Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus (Verizon). No navigation inside the app. None of the feature slide (toggle) buttons work. No way to tell if a feature is "grayed out" due to being a premium feature (also no way to tell if a premium feature is available) or something like that, or whether the app has simply frozen. Uninstalled.
Their mission is awesome! And I fully support it, but it is such a downgrade from Dropbox that it makes it hard to switch (ESPECIALLY when it comes to editing word documents on mobile and also in general). I want to pay for their premium service (b/c I have a lot of files), but it's just such a skeleton of a service, I don't know...
Lately, the app just fails uploading any type of file (PDFs, mp3, jpegs). It starts the queue, and just as a file hits 80% upload completion, it fails the upload. Doesn't matter whether the upload is started through the Share button in Android or the Upload button in Sync. It would also be nice if there was an option to retry *all* failed uoads in a queue instead of having to restart the attempt for each file individually. Downloads work fine.
