The app has a huge flaw that makes it stupid to use. I can't choose to sync only my Camera folder. Only thing I can do is syncing my DCIM folder, which does contain my Camera folder, but also a whole bunch of other folders (screenshots, WhatsApp, Facebook, etc...) that I absolutely do not to sync to my Moments. This seems like a massive oversight. It's a shame really, especially because you are aware of this as it has been pointed out on your forum. I'll update my review if this gets fixed.

There is a lot love about moments. But it falls short in terms of reliability when it comes to syncing the photos. It is not resilient and not reliable. I often find myself uninstalling and reinstalling to get it to work again. Shame, I hope developers fix this so that it can be a great app. Moments is the reason I upgraded my Nas. Synology folks should think about it. It's mobile apps are generally not well rated. If they can polish them further that would translate to alot more sales for them.

The app works quickly and is great at automatically backing up your photos from your phone. There are however some GLARING issues. First off I have multiple users using my Nas and I want their files separate but I also want to be able to see each user's files as well. I want to be able to pick a user and just see there photos. However this app makes it so difficult to share the files and when trying to share these files there is no select all, that is a lot of files to click.

It is very nice to have the possibility to enjoy a "Google Photo like experience" combined with the advantage of keeping all personal photos save on a private storage device. However, it still falls short at some of the details which keep me from giving 5 stars. For example, I'd like to see all photos in the app, also when they have not yet been uploaded to the NAS. Also, I'd like to have an option to (optionally) upload pictures and videos in reduced quality. For now, 4* in the hope of future updates.

love seeing all my photos organized and being able to backup my phone directly to my cloud with it. the biggest problem I am having is that I cannot play videos. everytime I try to play a video from the app it says "video play back failure" and "unknown error". if this was fixed, I would be a lot happier with the app and it's services.

Great app but has big issue with upload which works only if the app is in foreground. I upload a lot of photos and videos and it never works. Fun fact: Synology DS Photo App has solved this nicely with a notification showing the status of the upload and it gets the job done. Upload is unreliable and very painful right now (and ever since actually). 4 Stars if it's fixed Besides, it would be nice if one could change the date of media files using the mobile app as well

Like many other Synology Apps: It's really nice - if it works. This is another example of an unreliable app. Photo Backup works - but only when the app is active. Not in the Background or on a locked phone even though I turned off power saving for this app. It just stops at a certain point. Would be grateful if this was fixed.

Just like what other people said, I really want to use this app instead of google photos. But this app gives me a big dissapointment and I fallback to google photos again. I know it is unfair to compare this app with google photos, because google photos has a powerful backend that can process the photos backup and creating thumbnail much faster, but this app just don't do what it should do in a good way. What I'm saying here is that I got error message very often saying that the session expired and then need to login again. Why should that happen? I never had session expired in my google photos. Moreover, the auto backup does not work automatically in the background, you need to login to the app and enable the backup everytime. I like the idea to backup photos and videos to the private cloud storage, but this app just don't do its job properly. I hope Synology can improve this in the future. Until then, I'll just leave two stars here. Still much more improvement to do.

Generally satisfied with the app and features are comparable to other cloud apps. One star is taken away for video playback and the inability to 'select all' when selecting photos for upload. The video playback works but buffers a lot. For those that complain about uploading failing or slow, check the CPU utilization on your NAS. If it is more than 50%, consider putting the 'index' and 'thumbnail' process on hold until all files are uploaded. Thumbnail will still be slow tho.

I really want to like this app. I love my synology nas, but unfortunately I can't recommend this app at all. I have a huge database of pictures I have taken over the years on my phone. All are stored in the dcim folder with the same name structure, jet moments randomly decides what to upload and what not. In the end I have about 5% photos backed up from the past 2 years. I tells me backup complete.. I don't trust this app. Either chose to do it manually or find something better (google photos)

This is an incredibly low quality application. Backup functionality is simply broken. It constantly looses connection (connection is fine), thinks it has no internet (it has), thinks it already finished the backup (it didn't), doesn't allow to select arbitrary folders on the device. My DCIM folder is on SD card, but can't be selected (but Downloads on SD card can - why?). It doesn't allow backup to shared library, doesn't allow bulk manual selection. Do you guys ever try to use this yourself?

Dated app! This is 2020 already. i just moved from QNAP in hope to find a better all rounded system. but apparently This app seemed to be just a gimmick of Synology. No basic must-have functions. Like drag-select to quickly manage multiple pictures. No advanced filters, for example ability to filter photos from specific time and date. Etc. I felt like it's still lack of many important things.

I see what others mean by this app doesnt play videos. If you don't currently have a third party application to play videos, moments does not have a native video player. It opts me to launch VLC player or Plex. It would be nice to have a native video player. I love how similar it is to old Google Photos where I could zoom out and view by month/year. I would also like to be able to set as default photos app, the options to set default is greyed out.

An app with a simple task, so much potential, and yet it's too unreliable, flakey and a failure. It's just sad that Synology would put out such a substandard app with no real care or attention to what users need. - The app often reports backup is complete and the sync is done with your NAS - it is not - You can't see sync status between phone and NAS - You can't force a sync or pause a sync - Even when all conditions are met (e.g. it's on your WiFi and charging) it does not start a sync.

I have more than 100k photos stored on NAS and i find moments to be very slow. It took weeks to generate thumbnails, switching between tabs i refresh for 10-15 seconds before showing anything, right click capabilities like in Google photos are missing, randomly some of the thumbnails do not get generated and there is no way to generate/remove them rather than re-installing app. I find this app too slow for large amount of pictures.

First off syncing from a cell phone over Wi-Fi or cellular works perfectly fine. For the people with issues I suspect a Wi-Fi issue. Hire a Wi-Fi specialist or learn about fresnel zones, interface, antenna configurations, etc. I synched my photos over a slow Wi-Fi link on a cruise ship a quarter way around the globe from my laptop just in case my camera got lost or stolen. Works perfect. Ai should use quicksync to accelerate facial recognition because Celeron's will be slow for this.

Everything about viewing the photos on the NAS I love this app for. However, how it backs up the photos has a lot to be desired because I can't choose what structure it uses. I instead use DS Cloud to retain my personally modified subfolder structure under my Android DCIM folder. I personally like my subfolder structure to be the same no matter where it's backed up to, just in case I need to restore from my NAS backup.

I had no issues setting this app up and outside the initial sync which was over 3 thousand pics and some large (backup froze a bunch and sometimes an error occured) videos it did very well. My biggest complaint is how little options I have. I wish they had a feature that if photos are x months old please remove from device if backed up or even during the clear I wish it let me choose dates and not all or nothing.

Great idea but poorly implemented. * Confusing ui. * Does 2 separate things, display and backup, but they are confused and interdependent in the app. * No way to see, edit or check backup settings except by disabling backup and starting again. * No way to tell backup to start now. I recommend not using this app for backup, only for display. Lots of other backup apps do a better job of photo backup. Use any of them instead. I use PhotoSync, and use this app only to display my Moments photos.

Does work with "gallery" on Android... So I have to use file system... When I do i hit select files and nothing happens... They need to follow qnapa lead on all their apps... It's too complicated and nothing works... I don't want to have to put things in order for you... You should copy said folder to the same folder on my NAS. no editing folders or moving things around. Keep it simple.

Mostly great, however... If you are using 2FA, the "Remember device" setting doesn't stick. This leads to being logged out at some point, and your photos /videos are not backed up. Unless you open the app, you'd never know that you were logged out, and may have lost any photos taken after being logged out. Not pleased...

App decided to backup everything on my SD card (~15GB), even though I had set it to backup new photos only. This wouldn't be such a bad thing if it didn't happen over celluar - I essentially ran out of my data overnight. Also, the app is incredibly slow when loading photos; even when on the same LAN as the server.

No where near as good as Google Photos, but mostly fine. Biggest feature request I have is, since facial recognition isn't super great, to be able to tag photos as having people. Currently, the only way to tag is to see which faces the app pulled out on its own. If the app doesn't recognize a photo as having a face, you can't tag anyone in that photo.

backup works great, but the app randomly crashes when trying to do things like long press to select or sometimes just opening afterbrowsing down the (long, a few thousands) list of photos. Works a lot better at the top of the list, so definitely an issue caused by the number of items loaded ...

Geo. S. Jan 28, 2020

Works like a charm with my ds218play. Note for users having issues with the back-up: if you want to have your already existing pohots and videos uploaded to the nas automatically, make sure to select the "all files" option when setting up the automatic backup. Otherwise only the new pictures you take will be uploaded. App should have 4+ stars.

Good uploading app but everything else are poorly done. It doesn't help the user to manage the media library locally, so after deleting unwanted media in the app, you have to do it again locally using stock Gallery app. Also, it's "Copy to Shared Photo Library" creates duplicates if the media have been copied before and the developer refused to implement a simple "Move" function. Other than the above, the service depends on the operation at the DSM which is very CPU intense.
