Takoboto: Japanese Dictionary

Legitimately the best Japanese dictionary you'll find. No ads, no iAP, works offline. Incredibly useful for learning. Only downside I've found is it not following the night mode setting on my phone, but honestly that doesn't change the experience at all, you just have to manually switch to dark mode in the settings.

Exceptional way of learning Japanese done with the right methods and with this ideal app. It features almost everything you need to learn the language's vocabulary with a rich dictionary and concise contexts for English to Japanese translations. What made me love this app even more, is the fact that it lets you make files of vocalbulary for yourself of your own choice which can also be shuffled like flashcards for reviewing. Well done devs! I wish you'd do the same thing for other languages.

Very powerful search engine for Japanese language. Able to search fast for any word even if you only know parts of the word. Able to search in English and get Japanese translation, and vice versa. Able to show all forms of group one verbs. Able to search for individual kanji radicals and get all resulting kanji which have that radical. So many features, but maybe best of all is no ads in sight! Just noticed it also has kanji flashcards and a dark mode, after using the app for years. 6/5 stars!

Incredibly useful app. I've always found the exact translation im looking for and they are accurate. I also love how they have example sentences and links to grammar. They have literally every nouns, verb, adjective, adverbs, even expressions and more. Best japanese translation app. Oh and no ads!

Used to love this app, but lately it has started to nag you about a "subscription". A charge for an updated and improved app would be perfectly fine, but you can't subscribe to everything in this world. Get real! Edit: There seem to be a misunderstanding here: There is no need for a subscription (as the recurrent message says) - the developer only asks for a contributions - which is very fair. Please correct that mistake and I will of course contribute to the development - and all other users should do the same. Looking forward to future versions of this great app.

I love this app so much. I use it as my only Eng to Jp dictionary. That being said, there's an alert that they need donations to stay running, but I really wish there was an option to watch ads to support it. I would gladly turn on/watch ads for this as I don't have money to donate. Please add this feature, I want to help!

I've been using this app since I've started learning Japanese 5 years ago - the interface is neat, simple, and I love how you can search via romaji and hiragana input. The pre-loaded lists on counters and the ability to create various word lists makes this app a must-have for all Japanese learners. The only thing I struggle with sometimes is searching for an unknown kanji using its radicals. Big thanks to all the developers for this wonderful app :)

It's a fantastic dictionary and I love it. I wished it could display downstep and now it does, with an excellently clear notation. - If I could have one more feature, I'd ask for it to be able to tell me _what_ form of a verb it is, when I search for a verb form. - If I could have a second, I'd ask for an in-app place to draw unknown kanji, so I don't have to load up a separate Japanese handwriting IME for it.

I really love this dictionary, however, at the same time I find it severely lacking. There are no example phrases for all words - more often than not there are no example phrases at all, so there is no way to tell the difference in usage between words with the same translation in English, you have no idea which is the most appropriate to use. That is really frustrating for advanced learners. I do hope this app stays alive, however, you also need to step up your game.

This app is increadible!!! It comes with sooo many features that help learn Japanese, not just looking up vocabulary. Fair pricing and even an easy-to-adjust connection to AnkiDroid. I could barely ask for more, can I? The support also helped me setting up the pitch accents. I'm staggered by how well-thought-out this app is. Clearly recommend it to anyone that has the slightest ambition to start learning Japanese. Start off right, use Takoboto!

I like it. I'd like to make this clear but I am an amateur Japanese learner, so don't expect much from me. I don't have textbooks or any teachers so oof. In terms of functionality its actually really nice. I really like that it gives many diffrent meanings and that, most of all, It gives you a hirogana and katakana chart you can not only use to search, but you can use the speak function with. I don't know how good it is but it is something I REALLY like. I like it. Pretty nice. No issues yet.

Great app, but, ain't you getting too greedy? A subscription? Really? And not just any subscription, it's an expensive one, pretty much what I pay for Amazon Prime here in Mexico. If you decided to include ads and asked for $20 to get rid of them, I'd gladly pay them, but no way I'm paying such a subscription for a dictionary.

This application is great. i just have a little request im happy when there's multi select (*select all) Option, but end up disappointed when I see that there is no copy to clipboard option if selected all applied. So my request is can you add copy to clipboard option in your next update

This is the most convenient Japanese dictionary I've used. You can type with romaji, kana or kanji in either English or Japanese and all words with that reading comes up. There are example phrases given to grasp a better situational understanding of each vocabulary. It's amazing!

Pretty nice app for finding specific vocabulary, but I find the kanji finder a bit slow. It would be nice if you could write the kanji down instead of inputting the different parts one-by-one; take the Chinese dictionary app Pleco for example.

I liked this app for many reasons, one of them being able to export my word lists ti anki. But this feature has been removed recently. I hope we get it back soon, I don't have time to manually input all my vocab into anki

It's a good dictionary and covers more than what renshuu app has, I do hope that you'll consider allowing us to sort the words in our lists in alphabetical order, as it is easier for me to search for words by their pronounciation in an orderly manner.

Extremely helpful, I've been using it to study for years. If I could rate more than five stars I would, seriously the best there is. Unfortunately it is Android only, but supporting the creators may let them work on a release for other platforms.

This app is awesome!🤯 This makes learning Japanese a whole lot easier!🤯 I love how you can see the different conjugation forms of the verbs, I've been having some trouble with that until I found this app!🤯👌 Another thing is there are also phrases included with the words you look up, which is absolutely amazing!🤯👌 I'd definitely recommend this to anyone learning Japanese!✌️😊✌️ And to the developers of this app, ありがとうございます、お疲れ様でした!👌😁👌

This is by far the best Japanese translation app I have used. It is just is easy and the ability to use exclusively English characters makes it much easier to type what you are looking for without switching keyboards.

Very nice, clean interface that's easy to use. Examples are good and finding kanji is easy with components search. Highly recommend. Only thing I'd add if possible is a way to draw unknown kanji. Right now when I would rather draw a kanji to look it up, I have to use a different app (Yomiwa). But I like Takoboto's interface better - it feels smoother and faster, less clunky.

Edit: I didn't know. I learned something today, thanks! (Old review:) The pitch accent feature is incomplete. In the search results, there are pitch accent marks for "falling tone" and "steady tone" but not "rising tone". This could be fixed by adding a "r" shaped bracket above the syllable after the rise, or a "J" shaped one under the syllable before the rise. Great app.

The best offline dictionary- reliable, comprehensive, accurate. I'm looking forward to other language translations being more finished, but I'm happy it's as good as it is already

Fantastic Japanese dictionary. I've been using it for about 5 years and have never had a problem with it. Takoboto is simple, works well and is free. Much better than the other Japanese dictionary apps I've tried. Highly recommended.

This app is amazing! I'm studying Japanese at university and it helps me a lot to study for my exams! The kana and the Kanji included are great! I love this app! The translation are sooo much more accurate than every other Japanese translator app such as Google Translate or Reverso.

I have just finished my A1 certificate in Japanese and was looking for a way extend my vocabulary. This app truly is amazing. No Internet, fast, I truly appreciate it. The one downside is if you want to get the extra features like syncing across phones. I truly hate monthly; yearly subscriptions so those are off the table. They do offer a lifetime once off subscription but in my personal opinion it is ridiculously expensive. Especially if you live in a country with a horrible exchange rate.

It's a very useful app. I'm an ESL tutor and I mainly teach Japanese students, I'm also learning Japanese, so this is a life-saver for me. I also love the desktop version!

I think its perfect except for the latest version, the TTS is in english and i dont know how to change it. I already tried to change the TTS language on my device but the one your app uses is the english TTS. Please help thanks

Would give it 6 stars if I could, easily the best Japanese dictionary application. Tons of useful settings, info and features without ads.
