A really good app but there's only 1 thing I don't like (hence the 4 stars) you can't say you speak a language and choose it in the learning section. So if you're fluent in English (but not a native speaker) for instance and you just want to talk with a native speaker so you don't lose your level, it looks like you're some kind of beginner because you can't say on your profile you speak that language on addition to your native language. Finally, the pro version is much better than the free one !
Pathetic cannot sign in, was forced to sign out and reinstall bc the app wasn't working and crashed for no apparent reason but now I can't sign in using my email account. Tried resetting the password but it's not use, I'm told it's the wrong one, even though it's the same one as before. I checked and received emails to set it up in 2019 but now I've lost everything thanks to your useless system... Joke of an app if you can't even access it... Also, notifications weren't working either
i love the app. everything is good to make you interact with people around the work and learning new languages at the same time. You can facetime, correct, translate and comment the messages, send audios. It's fab ! I recommend to anyone. Just on my phone Samsung A6 I can't read the audio lecture I don't know why. And it such a lame
Edit: -1 star for the broken calls feature. It would be better to not include it at all. It's the best language exchange app I've found, but it's missing a lot of polish on the technical and design side. The system for conversation starters is also a bit lacking, and thus most people don't really utilize it well.
Great app, love the idea, it has some great bells and whistles. Lacks some basic ux features. Bluetooth earphones won't connect on calls, gifs won't send properly, not sure why you can/should follow people when it doesn't change anything about how you interact with them and their accounts. just leave a review? it becomes awkward to follow someone a few days into conversation like you're fishing for a review. maybe if the inbox would filter msgs depending if you followed them it could be handy.
The app itself is very good with options for voice and video as well as text chat to help practice. I like the way you can correct people and be corrected. The only problems come from users of the app who wish to use it to date people which is not what I use it for and based on the number of people who post "not here to date" or "I am engaged" in their profile this is a common problem. After a time it becomes easier to tell who is genuine though.
This app is awesome. Everyone I've chatted with is friendly, respectful, and helpful. A perfect compliment to Spanish classes or to an app like Duolingo. As a native English speaker, it can be a little overwhelming because everyone wants to talk to you so I get messages constantly. It took me about a week to realize that I can switch to "offline" when I need a break.
Not the best but the app helps a lot to get news friends, study mates, to perform cultural exchange and more. I'd be amazing if you guys could change the rules or the way the app works., I mean it's great, but people only talk to others who are gorgeous and good-looking, not always the rest of people. The idea is to have a real interest in people.
Tandem is a useful app for those who are learning a language and also for those who want to make friends or are interested in different cultures or anything else! But there are some bugs there. like mic problems, weak voice or video calls ,weak voice chat. If you can put up with its problems it can be good for you.
I've met some very good friends through this app! I highly recommend it if you want to find friends abroad (especially of you actually move there, it's easy to find friends). But make sure, never go to private homes in the first meetings, and chat with people enough to know about their character! Always meet in public places~
It is the best multilingual platform out there, you always have people to talk to: to learn; to teach. The premium is reasonable, not cash-grabbing at all. A slight 'downside' would be that when you have a new account, with premium on top of it...is that you would be kind of overwhelmed with people starting new chats. A very positive experience, with good communication and passion to ask and learn, you are guaranteed to speak a new language fluently (with additional learning outside, of course)
Has a lot of features to enjoy such as language exchange parties (voice chat) which aren't behind a pay wall. Ofcourse there are some features you have to pay for but atleast it doesn't hamper the overall performance of the app. I do hate that I don't get notifications for incoming messages. I end up replying late to the messages.
Very interesting app that has helped me engage in the language I have been learning with varied people even without a subscription. I don't have the money to spare on subscriptions and have still found this app to be helpful, engaging and interesting.
I like the app, has good features but is not good for introverts or people having trouble socializing. People often ghosting you or ignoring you is annoying. I know this isn't the apps fault but there should be a feature that you could take a survey of stuff you like or want to learn and match it with people with the same interests, maybe this could solve the issue
I've been using HelloTalk for language exchange for years, and in a week of using this app I can already say it's much better (at least, for finding serious language learners you'll actually engage in conversation with). I like that this app encourages conversation and engagement with others. So far, haven't had any bad experiences. A+ 👍🏻
This is a great app! I've met many friends across the world and most of them are respectful, friendly and nice. I love the interactive parties where you can converse by audio to people from different countries and share your thoughts.
I absolutely love this app! Not only can you learn different languages but you can talk or text anyone from all over the world. What I really love the most are the Party Rooms. I definitely recommend this app. to anyone that is trying to learn a different language or just would like to make a friend(s) with anyone in the world.
I signed up long ago. More than a year or two? Can't remember honestly. It took my personal info and never notified me of anything. With how intrusive the sign up rules are, seems like this app's main motive is just to steal information. Uninstalling. Also, the language I wanted this app for, I already learned it. No thanks to this useless so-called application.
Wow...if you need more conversation skills in a language you are currently learning this is the app. There are no ads and just tons of chances to improve your language skills. There is not a lot of instructions or format but a well set up community where you can post on different topics and seek out ppl to learn a foreign language with. I am enjoying my seven day free trial but haven't decided yet if I keep app and go pro. I feel I've improved my Russian language skills and have motivation.
Very disappointed. Very buggy app when trying to setup an account. Biggest problem is when you get to choose gender, it just gets stuck and you can't click continue. So it's impossible to start using. Fairphone 4 on Android 11
The day after I came back to tendem and created a new account AND payed for a year. My account was banned. Not impressed! I have since requested a refund from Google play. All I did was use voice rooms and was finally starting conversation with people from Japan and was disappointed to find my account banned the next day. I have studied languages for 8-10 years and studied international studies in college. It is disappointing that this happens with some language learning apps.
I returned to tandem after some time not using it and now according to tandem I speak no languages and doesn't want to learn any ;) What's worse my language preferences don't get saved which makes the tandem completely useless.
A really great app with amazing features, it has helped me to find longterm language partner and to socialize, also the best place for introverts who like to engage in deeper conversations :)
Didn't get far, app forces you to input personal identifying data such as legal/real name, DOB, and a clear photo of your face. For an app that focuses on language exchange, these things aren't necessary. Inputting a username should be min requirement. I value my online privacy and safety too much to upload photos of myself (which I don't do anywhere else either). Partner doesn't need to see your face to text you, it's an unnecessary feature.
A good app but extremely slow... It can take forever to send a message, especially voice messages. Plus: unread chats are randomly highlighted/un-highlighted, if you stay in the same chat and want to go back to the main page you might have to press the return key a lot of times, not possible to re-comment a comment, and now a glitch preventing to view anyone's profile.
