My experience has been sad. In spite of multiple customer service calls, the app and the monitoring device are unreliable. App stopped monitoring 2 weeks ago. They acknowledge the failure but have no idea when it will be fixed. In addition the alerts for low battery or lost wifi connection do not work and never have. Update 11/18/2021. App has been very reliable for last 3 months.
It's a shame that there are two different apps you need to use, one for setup and one for monitoring. I have a horizontal tank but the tank icon shows as a vertical tank. The battery level says generic battery level, which sounds like something the programmer forgot to translate into layman's terms. I noticed a 6% difference between the physical gauge and the app. It would be great if you could calibrate the app with an optional offset. I wish Tank Utility would update the app.
I have had this monitor for over 2 years and have not had any issues. I monitor our propane level at a camp 3 hours away. It is nice being able to monitor how much is in the tank. I used to have people check it but sometimes it would be weeks before anyone was there. Overall very happy with the app and monitor. I thought it was easy to setup even though it is a different app for that.
It works... But 6 years without any update is not good. I'm assuming they outsourced development and don't care to pay to update it. From someone who specializes in software and infrastructure security let me say I'm certain that some of the packages used in the development have had vulnerabilities. I wouldn't trust this app until a security analysis and update is completed. Also, the UI needs help.
This is a horrible app. Actually this app, the separate setup app, the actual tank transponder, and support are all horrible. Just hit help in the app and see what happens. This whole combination of products and complain is a farce. We should all look into a class action suit for false advertising and/or lemon product.
This app is great for us. Both my husband and I are disabled and can't always get out to check the propane levels. This makes it SO MUCH EASIER to monitor levels and call for a fill when needed.
Needs to be updated. Gives errors about not working on this version of Android, I am only on Android 10. App is very basic, and could definitely use some improvement. The device itself is okay, too bad it is tarnished by a mediocre app.
Overall the app works great. One issue is that the tank readings are only taken one time a day. If the tank is used for heating, one reading a day is sufficient. If the tank is used to serve a whole house generator, that uses several gallons per hour, it would be nice to check tank volume more often.
1st one failed. Waiting on replacement with new hardware/firmware... I received a replacement in July 2020. Now the replacement stopped responding Sept 12th 2021. Tried changing batteries and tank utility device still will not respond. Using magnet to trigger device will not work. Waiting on tech support again. After 2 weeks, still waiting on email response, I decided to call. Received a call back within minutes! Replacement is be shipped soon. 10-19-21... Received replacement (under warranty-free) 11-02-21. Working great again!!! Hope this one last a lot longer. Works great while working but this is my third replacement.
Way behind the technology curve. Doesn't do any kind of alerting via e-mail or text, even though you are prompted for an e-mail address in the set up. A waste of money for the device, right now.
This app works when it wants. Will not send readings for a week, do readings five days in a row and stop sending readings for another week. Will send reading if "forced" to from tank. There has been no updates. Signal is strong - app is not. Basically worthless.
First level support is good but if you are looking to do more like integrate the data and ask for the next level. Not there I have been waiting for IT support for over 2 weeks.
Installed it yesterday. Works as expected. I'd give it 5 stars if the app and device supported a battery strength indication. It'd be nice to know if I needed to change batteries before leaving for a month or three.
Update, reinstalled the app and every issue I had is solved. Much happier now that is is working without asking for an update.
Set up was easy as can be. I have a wifi access point very close which definitely helps. My 4 star review is based on my tank Guage say I have 90+% fuel and this monitor says I'm at 73%. A 20% gap is huge. Maybe its something I did wrong????
Easy to setup, simple app. Wish you could export data, so I could run more statistics on it.
Does not work on Android 10. Will not install. Got it installed on my wife's phone running Android 8 and seems to work fine. Hopefully they update the app soon
If i could rate a zero I would. Only works with new install. Want to use it later, uninstall/ reinstall. Gotta be something better out here.
Easy setup & installation! It took me less than five minutes to get the Generac gadget configured and sending data to my phone.
DOES NOT WORK MOST OF THE TIME SEEMS TO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH Verizon fios. No way to get help.
Can you please add a manual refresh button or diagnostics. My meter had not sent me a reading since July!
Unbelievable that they keep selling products that require this ancient 6 years old app. Last updated in April 2015!
Does not work with Android 9. Outdated app do not buy the tank utility monitor

Needs an update
V2 is a great product and a great way to avoid running out of propane which is a big hassle for a house that relies on it for cooking, heat and hot water. Now my smart home is really smart. Email notification has saved me the hassle once already, and before tank utility, I ran out and they have to test the whole system by a certified tech before refilling. App is simple but very effective. Glad to have the product.
The tank utility monitor and app seem to work as promised. Setup is a little labor intensive as requires a separate app. My main frustration has been with customer service. This is an expensive device. The mounting option is just ok. It is one weak magnet and washer. I spent two months trying to pay for another matching mount. No help from customer service other than "let us know what you find that works."
This is a very simple app along with the Tank Utility hardware can be used to monitor the level of propane in your tanks. I use this to monitor the tanks on a vacation property and it does the job. It is not very fancy. It does the very minimum of showing the tank level, providing an history, and providing e-mail alerts when the tank get down to a configured level. I would give it 5 stars if it had some advanced analysis capabilities, such as rate calculations, alerting at different levels, alerting via phone or text.
I love the concept this device and app provide! HOWEVER, two things require improvement: (1) Chart reflecting readings history is always 3 DAYS behind the date of the last reading displayed in the app. Not a big deal if you use minimal propane, but we can use as much as 20 gallons per day! (2) No option exists to increase the frequency of readings. Once a day is fine most times, but in Winter cold 3 days' time could mean 75 gallons were used before readings appear on graph!
