Tempo Player is not a typical music player, and is not intended to be. It exists specifically to solve the problem of synchronizing the pace of an activity, such as jogging, with the beat of your music. Tempo Player finds its niche by using your music on your device to perform its function for free and without a subscription or account.

So how does it work? Tempo Player can affiliate each of your songs with a tempo. Then the music player will generate a playlist of songs that match your specified tempo range on the fly. This is especially handy for the fitness crowd to maintain their workout pace with the beat of their music. Simply set your target beats per minute by using the tempo control buttons on the music player to target faster or slower songs. If you press the "Faster" button, your playlist will re-generate itself with faster paced songs! Those who want a bit more control over the generated playlist can use the blacklist feature, which will prevent blacklisted songs from being used. There is also a Tempo Tap-In feature to assist you with targeting your specific pace more quickly on the go.
There are two requirements to use Tempo Player.1. You must have music on your device. This is not a streaming app. It is meant for those of us who like to purchase our music and load our songs directly. This is "Your music at your pace!"2. At least a good chunk of your songs must be assigned tempos.
You can utilize various activities to establish the tempos (in beats per minute) for your songs including keyboard entry, tapping, tempo matching, and scanning song file metadata. But, most importantly, users will have access to over 1,275,000 (and growing fast!) tempo records in the community cloud which can be downloaded at any time from the Utilities menu or the Tempo Editor. So you are sure to hit the ground running straight out of the gate!
The Tempo Player cloud is a user-driven database of song tempos. If you have a song that does not have a tempo, you can use the editor tools provided in the app to discover the tempo. Your findings can be shared anonymously to the cloud for the benefit of the whole community.
Tempo Player does not gather personal information from users. It is also being actively developed and improved upon by a fellow runner who actually uses the exact same Tempo Player that you would download here on a daily basis. So no (intentional) gimmicks!

Does not work. Useless
Keeps crashing when I start the app - still happening. Tried 2.0.2, gets a bit further but still crashes.
This is easily the best app of its kind in the Play Store, I'm so glad that I found it. It scans your music and lets you play the songs by BPM that match your walking or running pace. I easily run faster than I would when using this app. Also, the Developer is extremely responsive: he answered a question I had within 15 minutes! I highly recommend it. Version 2 of the app has now been released, which includes new functionality - most importantly tempo shifting, which adjusts the tempo of the songs to match the middle of the range that you set.
It does not recognise or download any of my songs except from 2 that are super popular. Ah too bad I had high expectations.
Such an amazing app! The music matched my pace, letting me run almost twice as long before getting tired!
It takes a bit of work going through your songs, but it makes finding an appropriate song for your workout a breeze!

music and exercise will never be the same
This is a really great idea and was a really good app when I downloaded it in December. However, since buying a new phone, I've been unable to connect to the tempo database. Thought I needed to again buy the upgrade but that didn't help. Wrote Corey 2x but never heard back. App always says "server is down". I'm hoping this is just a temporary problem, but beginning to feel like developer may have abandoned it.
I am a big fan of using the music that I already own, instead of subscribing to a music service. Upon entering in the tempos for the songs that I want to jog to, Tempo Play automatically created a playlist based on my selected tempo. I am interested to see how this app grows, and it can only get better with more users entering in tempos.

I would love this app, but it doesn't fetch tempos for me and keeps saying "connection trouble". I'll keep trying though, because if this works, then it's the type of app I've been looking for for ages now. I wish it would've been easier to find :)
