The practice of using colors to determine the temperature of a piece of (usually) ferrous metal comes from blacksmithing. Long before thermometers were widely available it was necessary to know what state the metal was in for heat treating it and the only way to do this was to heat it up to a color which was known to be best for the work.

You guys obviously didn't read that it measures the temperature of steel, based on the colour of it.
According to this lol my cars ac vent is pushing 1022 degrees of cold are guess its a cold day in hell lmbo thats is the cause it is pretty cold in here for hot air

Works well on the metal in my forge, obviously the material has to be glowing for it to work but seems to be roughly accurate. Good tool for anyone who wants to have a tool to check back up their by-eye estimates.
