Text Fairy (OCR Text Scanner)

so good so far. it would be awesome to be able to do bulk pages. capture the pages first then have it convert all at once while you go do something else, a spelling error finder to direct you to any mistakes it might have made. that would be 5 star quality and i would gladly pay. other than that, it does as intended and works really well.

Text recognition is very good on on this app. However one disappointment is that this version doesn't give me the choice of camera. It gives me no zoom. Also this version has adverts. A previous version of this app that I have loaded on another device allows me to use a better camera and gives me no adverts.

A superb little app that does one thing and does it very well. Point your camera at a book or magazine or other printed text, snap a pic, crop it to the part you want, and the text is captured and available to share, copy, or export to PDF. It can also capture text from existing images. V. 5 updates the interface and makes other small improvements. Perfect for students and researchers.

I needd to capture text and copy it into notes. This app is very user friendly (I tried another app first and couldn't figure it out) and it did exactly what I needed it to do. It could not read italicized words within normal text and had some difficulty with text marked by hand (it tries to read stars, for instance, as part of the text ) but overall it is a huge time saver and very easy/quick to use.

I really love the app and what it can do. It helps me get all my reading done for school when i have better things to do! (Not what it's meant for, but it works really well). Although, I wish I could change the pitch of the readers voice. The woman type voice hurts my ears due to it being to high. I wish I could chose a man's voice instead

I have tried over a dozen of the highest rated OCR apps available. Text Fairy is nearly perfect and it's got to be at least twice as fast as all the others, the workflow is simple and obvious. Please fix the crop to 'snap' to perfect vertical sides. not so easy to fix it once it's uneven. I only care because it affects my results.

This app is incredible, saved my life when I couldn't upload my work and had to one way or another transfer my word document to my phone and upload it from there. Saved me the trouble from having to retype everything when i can't use a usb cable to transfer the doc, and just copy and paste with a picture. Awesome. So accurate too. I barely needed to edit anything. Compared to the other apps with everything all over the place, this is the best. So cool that it worked on a digital screen.

Good app but lacks batch processing. Accuracy - very good. Speed - fair. It becomes a problem when you have several pages to process and you have to keep clicking around for each page and waiting. The app could be a lot better if I could select multiple images, crop each of those images to taste and click process while the fairy goes to work and returns a page-by-page result for all the images. That way, things can get done faster with less supervision. Many thanks to the developer!

Very easy and effective. Need to correct 5 to 10 words per page. When using 10 point font. Errors stand out so it is not hard to address them. Use natural lighting, flashes and placing document directly under a lay can increase the number of errors. Can capture screen by taking a picture of the screen but less effective than capturing a paper document.

a few mistakes here and there. I'm using it to convert an entire textbook so I can make it an audiobook. best app ever, so easy. I would love to contribute $5 for this. I just wanted to add, other apps seem to do better in getting the correct text but this one has the best options to select what text you want on a page and to retain the formatting. It's kind of a trade-off.

The app is very cute, and I appreciate the developer clearly stating what the program can and cannot do. Unfortunately, it's not as accurate as other programs. If I were able to control how much the image is sharpened and was able to somehow... tell the machine what is and isn't text, it'd be better than most other apps. But I'll still give it 4, just to support it ^^

Uninstalled! I used a file, that I created with TF, months ago, to recreate a document. The original time had a few errors. Now, the second time, months later, there are so many errors it's not worth trying. Worked ok the first time, yet the same file is worthless now. This app can't even read its own files. What a flop! It's easier to tap the microphone button, and speak what you are trying to scan. Good bye.

Easy to use. Tells you when OCR is not going to be accurate if your picture is blurry so you can take another one, which is great! If you take a good photo the conversation to text is 100% accurate. The fact that it straightens the words if one is photographing a page from a novel or bound textbook where the text curves in by the gutter of the book is very good, and very clever as one can create a pdf with straightend lines. All in all an excellent app anyone should have as one of your must haves on phone and tablet. Highly recommended

I have tried quite a few OCR apps but this is the only one that I have found that does exactly what I want it to do. Firstly, it works offline; secondly, after photographing the text, I can crop to just the text that I want it to read; thirdly, it is fairly accurate, even with poor quality text. What more can you ask for!

It's got a silly name but apart from that it's excellent. I have tried - and uninstalled - quite a few of these apps. This is the one I kept. The algorithm is very good and can get most clearly photographed text. It has a one or two column function which is very useful. They ought to change its name though. "The One That Works" would suit it best.

Wow! Not complicated! Just select your text and it grabs it! You can then copy and be on your merry way, or it can read it back to you before you go. This is a great app. I do not see a donate button on it, but it sure needs one! I needed an app to scan some text right away, with no hassles, no signups, and no popup adds. This app literally came to my rescue!! Thank you very much!!

This is the best app I've used so far. No ads, no spending money. The overall experience was really good, I hope the developers would keep on providing such clean and ad free experience. This app saved me a lot of time and I completed my assignment in just an hour. The OCR system needs some improvement for varying perspectives otherwise everything is well optimized. I'd love to recommend this app to anybody else.

So far the best text to speach app I've found. It scans the texts after an image is taken and centers the image so all words and sentencing lines are in order. It reads it off clearly and saves the images you've taken. NOW, the down side is the text reads a Little too quickly at times and there's no option to slow it down. I also can't 'rewind' the text and go back to what was previously said. It would also be helpful if it highlighted what it was reading as it read it. Overall I like it!

Hands down one of the best apps of its kind. I was using another top rated "free" app which was free only for a while and then they demanded that I must buy subscription to continue using it. Glad that I switched to Text Fairy, which I can use offline and unlike the other app it recognizes paragraphs which is a GREAT feature as it makes the scanned text readily usable instead of having the need to edit or reformat it. Saves great deal of time.

Love it! It does a wonderful job. Saves me so much time. I am scanning documents with editing notes and it has trouble with those. And if, while editing, it is interrupted all corrections on that page thus far are undone and you have start that page over. Otherwise I recommend it. Even does pages that are not flat.

Great app! Square box quick and easy to position on the page for getting all the text selected, if necessary. Does an amazing job of "sharpening" and straightening the text, recognizes columns. You can create a PDF from some pages, and then add more pages later if you wish. The developer is super and responded unbelievably quickly, worked with me until a problem was fixed with an update. The ads didn't bother me, but I bought the ad-free version just to help support a good program/developer.

I've tried several apps to copy text from an old pc-scanned typed document on my tablet. This was by far the best. It was the only one to flow the text properly. There were very few misread characters & the app highlighted 3 suspected errors in red. Text editing & alignment is provided. It was also best at identifying all punctuation correctly - especially commas.

By far the best OCR app for my purposes. It takes the photo directly and automatically identifies the text AND seamlessly allows the user to correct its choice in the most intuitive, effective, intelligent way. Then it corrects for perspective with user participation. Even better, it corrects for a curled page like if you're scanning a page from a book or magazine. It somehow uncurls it in the image before doing the OCR. It's excellent! One of the best designed apps. Focussed and excellent.

Outdated :It cannot even recognize printed letters in size 30 with perfect light and black on white paper. It's as worthy as a shoe without a sole. Edit: it has improved a lot. Due to dev reply I checked again and was positively surprised. It still needs correction but we are working with almost complete sentences now. Keep up the good work.

Excellent scanner, by far the best! #1 advantage is that if scanning text from a book, camera doesn't have to be EXACTLY on the text you want. Text just has to be somewhere INSIDE the photo. After you have image that may contain parts of columns you DON'T want, a crop box will appear on top of image, *already straightened for you, even if curved,* where you can then crop the EXACT column of text you DO want, THEN you run OCR & get perfect copy of text that "may" need minor editing! PREFECT. Thx!

Amazingly good. It can be surprisingly difficult to photograph a page without casting a shadow on it. This app accepts the poor image, cleans it up, then turns it into text. The small number of errors any OCR program makes (eg not distinguishing between 50 and SO) are easily edited from within the app.

Simple to use, user friendly, I had a very good experience with this one. I had no problem scanning text I needed to scan from a picture I had on my phone. Keep in mind the picture was essentially a document, which is where this app shines. I was given a text field with what the app found on the picture and was able to copy that straight into a message.

Don't want to give you too low a rating. This is a great little app. 1st one I found that can scan and read in 1 app. Nice to save many pages in one file and name that file Scanning capability is really pretty good. Reader sounds great. Nice To be able to edit the text It could be improved if I could Control the reader on the page. Maybe double tap at a certain spot to Start. Also Continual reading Of pages would be helpful. Ads are fine .amazing off-line availability
