TextNow - free text + calls

This app has screwed up my phone completely! It constantly freezes my phone. It somehow magically turns my volume to silent by itself without my knowledge. The calls are not very good in a sense of my screen will start flashing on and off if I'm on a call and try to mute. So I can't press mute immediately. The calls will not hang up. The app gets stuck and won't end the call nor will it allow me to move around on my phone.

This app is no good. It used to work decently but the past few weeks it hasn't worked at all for calls and text are far few between. I've tried to make over 10 phone calls today and none of them worked. And when getting incoming calls it doesn't ring or notify you until after you missed the call. Don't recommend this app at all.

It's a good idea but when using the free sim card, calls and texts are delayed by hours. It is really disappointing that it didn't work. I was called 6 times and sent many texts while walking home, I didn't get any and my parents thought I went missing. I later realized that textnow just uses data and locks it to the app so you can't use it anywhere else. I threw away the sim card and only use it on wifi. However it is still delayed by minutes. Receive notification, check inbox, no message.

For 2 years, I paid $9.99/month for ad free because I thought I had to, so as to text and make calls away from WiFi. Turns out, I don't have to pay for anything! However, in order to receive verification texts, I have to lock in my number for $4.99/year. I don't mind this at all. The ads are a little irritating, but not bad, and I've seen a lot worse. Amazing product!

This app is good for texting and calling especially if you're just relying on wifi. Thank you for adding the video call! My only problems are that I'm having trouble changing contact pictures. I hadn't had that problem when I first got it but now it's not letting me change the pictures. And I can barely get a good call anymore because it never works and I can never hear the other person. Kinda getting frustrated with that.

There are two things you'd expect from a phone app: answering incoming calls and hanging up when the call is over. This app does neither well. Yeah, that's right. Sometimes it won't hang up at all. Tried updating the app, reinstalling, rebooting phone. Still happening. This is on top of the invasive ads and the poor reception/echoing on the other end.

The delay during calls is ridiculously long. A lot of times I can't hear the person on the other line or they can't hear me. It drops calls when there's a good wifi connection. When there's a good connection it won't last long and a delay of 3 seconds starts or the call is dropped. The app Hushed is so much better then textnow. Wouldn't waste my time with this one and I hope ppl see this review before paying for this service.

Excellent for those who don't have a cell number or data plans to send and receive pictures/videos by texting. Big plus that it allows local area codes and as long as you make a call or text every 30 days (I think?), you can keep the number. So use it or lose it! 😆 The ads can slow the phone down but using Bluetooth headphones really increases speed and quality of calls. I paid for ads free and lock my number because it's worth it and the devs deserve to get paid imho!

This is absolutely the worst application to use for a phone app. It never wants to connect. It slows down your entire phone. It intentionally drops your phone calls. Don't ever have an important phone call on this app. I know this for certain because while on a call my signal is at the strongest it can be and after 2 or 3 min on the call it starts beeping saying "poor network connection" won't reconnect to call yet while still in call run speed test with great wifi. Waste of time

Very great app, very simple and easy to use, but I've been recieving lots of daily spam calls for some reason. That, and I'm getting this bug in which I can't recieve notifications unless i 'finish setting up the app' but I've already got it fully set up. I went into my device settings and have notifs turned on, I don't understand what may be causing this, so i figured i would bring it to your attention.

Good app, with a slight problem. My calls and texts sometimes just don't come through. I'll get a call, and just completely miss it but get a notification that says that I missed a call. Other than this, the app works great. Ads are a bummer, but I get that they need ads to keep the app free. But I hope this problem gets fixed

I have used textnow for 4+ years, and have had a fine experience. However, this is no longer the case. Staring 2022 their service (both and customer) has been terrible. Having purchased my phone from textnow, I could no move it over to my new service. This 2022 experience with textnow has caused so much hassle and headache. I would advise any new customers only choose the free version as the service is no longer worth paying for.

This is a great app for either a second number or your main number. If it's used for a second number remember to keep either a chat head open or keep a check on it because you really won't know if someone calls or texts. other than that it gets the job done. Also to it doesn't cost an arm and leg to get rid of those pesky adds. It's Affordable and does exactly what it says. Well rounded good app!!

this app has worked for years for me. never charged me a cent, doesn't make sense but I'm not arguing. it's come through for many times when my paid for cell phone has been busy with not operating properly and all you need is Wi-Fi. if you've been used it in places with low signal and still had clear phone calls and definitely text that work from those places

The app functions, I can receive and send messages and calls, however the entire process is painful. I understand ads, I do not understand banner ads that play SOUND while you're texting. I won't receive a message for 20 minutes and then get 3 or 4 messages from different contacts at the same time, all while messaging perfectly fine on other apps. The sound quality of calls is mediocre at best, messages will randomly not get sent or you won't receive one. I'd recommend another messaging app.

Works well. A lot of ads to look at but they dont bother me. Its more like junk mail! The only complaint i have is the inability to use it to verify other apps. They wont give me the codes, and instead refeer me to a link with an option to pay for the service. If i could afford to pay for anything, i wouldnt be using a wifi phone app!

App was perfectly fine before someone at TextNow headquarters screwed it up. Now it freezes, drop calls and cause calls and texts to not even come in when they are ment to. After updating the app and turning on every setting in the app it still doesn't work the way it's spose to. Going to transfer my # to another service. Don't try to fix what wasn't broken this is a perfect example of that.

it gives you the same functions you'd get from a network service plan. and without having to watch ads or jump through hoops to earn minutes and texts like most similar apps... not to mention the ability to get a free service plan through them if you have a sprint or unlocked phone. no other free app comes close to this one. I've had my same text now number for like 4 years now. it always saves me in between service numbers

I have been subscribed to the premium service for a long time and the app will often switch back to free mode and start showing ads. The only solution is to log back in and this has been going on for years. People will sometimes call the number and get a message that it does not exist. I've reported that problem and hear nothing. Can not recommend for these reasons.

Won't allow you to receive verification codes without spending money for a subscription. They claim this is to protect you from losing your accounts if the numbers expire. Well I don't really care if it expires, all I wanted to do was make a telegram account but I don't have a regular phone number, so this app just isn't useful at all for that purpose.

This app NEEDS MAJOR improvements. Calls don't go through. Phone won't ring and says I missed a call. And when it does ring, the incoming call screen doesn't pop up so I can't even answer it. And I'll get text and call notifications hours after they are sent. It's nice to have a way to call people and I do use the app, it's just a major headache EVERYTIME I try to use it.💩💩💩💩😪

Free Texting works but the calling option has basiclly become a useless feature. I will stand right by my router, it will say poor service, and I may hear one ring before disconnect. If I have a "good connection" the call will go through but, the other person cant hear me 90% of the time. The app once was the best wifi caller out but its far from that now.

Horrible! Every call makes my screen flash on and off so if I need to use the keypad, I cant. EDIT: With the TextNow sim card, EVERY call says poor data connection. I can hear people just fine but they can't hear me. Also, the phone never rings anymore but I get voicemail notifications left and right from missed calls. I've had this issue with 3 different phones and 3 different sim cards so it's not a device issue. TextNow just doesn't work. Period.

This app itself is a great concept... If it worked! Every few minutes I get a beeping notification u don't have service or bad connection. I paid the additional$4.99 for what??!?!? The calls are choppy and the repetitive hangups are enough to get upset about. Texts go thru most of the time. I get a message saying I've gone over my limit within the next day of installing the app and ALL THE ADS Everytime you do a thing. I gave it a try and really disappointed with this app.

Update4: verification texts were back now they're gone again. Update3: they've added another feature. Now you can't receive verification texts anymore. Update2: has begun ringing once and dropping the call. Update1: new phone, same issues. Original: People can't hear me on speaker phone now. And the call quality is consistently pretty bad. For past several months my voice sounds muted to the person on the other line. Unusable.

This app constantly freezes. So I have to constantly reinstall it. Meaning Uninstaller and install again and again. When I make a call or end a phone conversation, I press the end button, but it doesn't hang up. And disrupts everything. I can't get in coming calls. Annoying. Help me with this. Do I need a better upgrade of my phone? Or is it the internet connection?
