I used to like and use Texture until they stopped supporting Windows 10. I did some checking and found that a lot of local libraries are now online and offer free access to their digital library section - they offer almost the same wide selection of digital magazines as Texture does, but the library is free with current and back issues, & the library supports almost all apps & devices.
I have enjoyed Texture for many years. Being a senior citizen and on a fixed income the app has been very helpful to keep in touch with the world. They have an excellent selection of magazines to choose from. I am very upset that apple has bought this app. I hate apple products and now that is the only way to get Texture in the future. I am so tired of them buying up useful industry-leading technology and then not being decent enough to make it available to all. I will miss Texture.
Sorry I'll be losing Texture - I don't own an Apple device to continue after May 28, 2019. There has been a glitch here and there over the years, but for the most part, I've enjoyed years of magazines that I download to my Android table to enjoy while waiting at appointments, on planes, hotel rooms and j ust general reading. Excellent selection - much more to my liking than other mag apps I've checked out.
I have been using this app since its inception, paying with a pre-paid debit card the whole time. I loved it. Yesterday, my subscription "expired" and I can't renew because they no longer accept pre-paid cards. I don't want to use PayPal and I don't want to use a big bank who will rip me off by soaking me with fees and "overdraft protection" charges. Screw you guys.
This app could be wonderful. It needs a feature to let you read more easily on the android phone. Right now, you click on an article, manipulate it as you would any pdf. It would be better if you could have a mobile view, where the text adapted automatically for the screen.
I use texture on my Android phone and tablet. It is the most important app I have. I use it everyday for design research and read all magazines and newspapers on the tablet. I have no connection to any Apple product and don't want to purchase an Apple device to continue to read my magazines.
I really liked my Texture app. in fact, I gave subscriptions to family members because I liked it so much. So, you can imagine my anger when I went to read my favorite magazines and discovered that Apple has taken over Texture, turned it into Apple News, and made it inaccessible on Android devices. I don't own any Apple products that have a screen. To say I am angry about this blatant effort to control what devices I purchase is an understatement. Next up: Netflix only viewable on an Apple TV?
when I first got texture it worked on my laptop, which is where I'd rather watch it both for screen size and snip and save pictures and pages from. I split my laptop screen, watch a movie on one side and read a book on the other, can't do that as well with texture on my tablet...😃👨🏫
Not sure if a review even matters anymore since the app will be obsolete at the end of April. I loved the app and would have given 5 stars if they had not chosen to discontinue the app. Not sure if they sold put or what but very disappointed. I choose to have an android so the Apple News is not an option for me unless I use it on my ipad, which is several years old and hardly used. I know 3 immediate family members that will no longer have the service.
Once the magazines are downloaded it's great but downloading is arduous and frustrating. One issue can take several minutes to load even with a fast connection. Sometimes it feels like I'm on dial-up.
I loved this app and would have given 5 stars but they are discontinuing this subscription and in order to receive all the magazines I like I must purchase an apple device and install apple news. Texture no longer offers this type of magazine subscription to Android users. What a bummer, they just lost a customer.
I'm sure I'm not your only lost customer with your conversion to Apple exclusiveness. Can't even view the previous magazines I'd already downloaded on my device. Considering I barely got to tap into my library I'm tempted to seek a refund, but at this point I wouldn't expect much customer service to us (ex) Android subscribers so it likely isn't worth my time. Truly upset I am losing access to this service for brand/OS favoritism.
I loved this app. For $10 per month I could read so many great magazines. Now that Apple is shutting it down with no option for Android users, I cancelled my subscription. I stopped buying Apple products a few years ago. Here's one more reason to add to why I don't like the way Apple treats it's users. 🤬
Great way to read most all the magazines I enjoy. Would be really nice if I was able to print an occasional recipe or article.... but other than that - it's fantastic.
Excellent way to view a read a wide variety of popular magazine content. so much simpler than subscribing to individual magazines. Well organized, my favorite way to view this content!
Texture had been 4 stars until now. Too bad Apple leverages sale of its hardware by killing this app soon and not offering Android users any option but to leave. This has set my next laptop purchase to be anything but Apple. I had been an Apple buyer since 1981. Transitioned to Android years ago due to silly updates that crippled my iOS devices to encourage sale of newer Apple devices that honestly were not a replacement necessary buy since the hardware was so good. Goodbye Apple.
Love having all these magazines for such a low price. And it's easier to open up the app then having magazines piled up all over. Makes traveling easier too
good selection of magazines. I generally read these on Airline flights. Offline option is very nice. The notification service when a new magazine becomes available is excellent and timely.
I really did love this app. I Echo the sentiments of mostly everyone else in saying that what apple is doing is horrendous. I do not own an Apple device oh, and this gives me more reason not to get in their ecosystem. texture, it was good while it lasted.
I wouldn't even give it a 1 star rating if I could, since they switched to apple I can't use it on my Samsung so it's pointless. In my opinion your losing a lot of business, because there's a ton of people that can't afford Apples $1000 products or just don't care for Apple. Will be uninstalling after this rate....
people: try readly or magzter. they seem to be good alternatives. do not need to buy any apple device. I bought a Windows surface so I could read magazine on a crisp screen. then it stopped working. then I bought a high end andoid tablet, so I could still read. now I have to use a apple product? great, apple. now I really hate you.
APPLE used to make phones, tablets, and iPods that were cutting edge, and used technology that was exclusive to Apple's innovative hardware devs. Now, Apple just seems to be behind in the consumer market IMO. I am sorry to see that Texture ended & users are steered toward Apple+, when I came back to reinstall. I will look for the apps suggested in other reviews here, that are Android compatible. I would rather use flagship Google Pixel, LG, Motorola, Samsung, & ZTE than best iPhone available.
i enjoy texture, great to have all of my magazines in one place. i will miss it and am disappointed that apple wont be making it available on android devices any longer.
Apple has RUINED one of my favorite apps. The fact that bought out Texture wasn't bad..the UNACCEPTABLE part is shutting out Android users. Worse to have the audacity to respond to your former customers complaints, with "cookie cutter" responses, that they need to contact for trouble shooting. I let a friend borrow my iPad...just told him to keep it. I will NEVER buy another Apple product, JUST because of doing business like this. 215 million iPhones vs 1.25 BILLION Androids sold last year.
I have been using Texture for quite awhile now and until recently would have rated it a five, but the last two or three months there have been a variety of problems in addition to them no longer supporting Windows. It seems as though Apple has bought the app and that is when problems started. well now it's official. no Apple device, no more Texture (or Apple News) as they call it. Can't even see what's going to be on it unless I get an Apple device and take a trial membership. Lose all saved.
