Discounted tickets are the main positive for me; with the number of journeys I make, the app gives better value for money on my commute than a season ticket. But be sure to do the maths for your own circumstances. Negatives: the app can be slow to load your tickets, which isn't helpful when you're in a hurry to get through the ticket barriers. And, my main complaint, your tickets (including used ones) are listed in ascending date order, so you have to scroll waaaay down the list for the new ones.

Quick and easy way to find travel options and book tickets. One small issue is that, having put in a departure time, the earlier/later options do not work beyond the time selected. You have to go back to the initial data entry and change it. There doesn't seem to be much point having earlier/later options if they don't work! There are other functions but I don't often use them and don't feel qualified to comment on them.

Very frustrated. Bought an m-ticket on the website but when I tried to log into the app it kept on saying that something went wrong. Even though I could log in online without any issues. Called the call centre to ask if they can change my m-ticket to a regular one. They said they have to refund me instead and I had to rebook the ticket again. I do think that the interface is much cleaner than that of ATW but I've never had issues with their m-tickets before. Conclusion, have to ditch the app and rely on the regular tickets from the machine. Sadly.

Fast, clean and simple app that does what you want it to do. Plus the tickets are cheaper than they were with Arrival Trains Wales, including an option to buy a virtual book of 12 tickets for the price of 10 for a selected route (called Mobile Multiflex). Easy to set up an account and navigate around the app, with helpful features like favourite journeys.

As far as train ticket apps go, this is okay. Most of the time it works but I've had a few issues with my tickets not loading in the mytickets section. As well as this there are sometimes problems when purchasing tickets - for example getting all the way through to the payment page and an error occuring, meaning you have to put all the details for tickets in again which is quite annoying!

This app works really well for me. Quick, clear and easy to use. Carnet tickets are great as I travel three or four days a week and without that ticket option I would have to pay a fair bit more. One improvement needed is the ability to hide old carnet tickets. At the moment carnet books stay in the 'my tickets' active list until their expiry date even when all 12 tickets in the book have been used.

It's ok but not a fantastic app although does what it needs to. Would be better with following changes. Improvements required: 1. used tickets need to move to the 'expired' heading for Carnets; otherwise clogs up your 'Active' list with old used carnets. 2. On the search facility for Plan & Buy and Live Times it should remember your historic searches. It should also have a button to swap the destinations around for live times (it has this for Plan & Buy).

Have to uninstall & reinstall every time I use it or most recent ticket doesn't appear in the list. Pretty stupid considering this is it's primary function. This really should be resolved. Having a ticket inspector breathing down your neck, refusing to accept that you have a ticket whilst the app is reinstalled (even though I show the confirmation email) on the painfully slow "free wifi" is not good customer service. Suggest if you are unable to get this working maybe revert to something that do

Please set up PayPal or GooglePay as payment option. It's quite annoying having to dig out my credit card to enter my security number everytime I want to buy a ticket on the go. Also too many clicks just to select tickets. It's ok if I am taking my time to book a preplanned trip but to quickly buy a ticket for a short immediate trip it could be much easier.

Better UI than ATW but has the same problem when it loses focus in that it takes you back to the home. Please leave it where it is especially if that's an active ticket. It just wastes passenger and train crew time otherwise. Updated: please fix the focus issue. The app is slow so getting from home to the ticket takes longer than it should.

Good app, very useful for daily commuters and more accurate compared to previous ones. Very slow when accessing my carnet to activate a ticket (which is not good if I am running to catch the train) and a bit annoying that carnets with used tickets are kept together with non used ones until they expire.

The app no longer saves stations on the live times tab so takes longer to find out if the train is on time. Creating an account makes no difference. The old version was more useful.

The option 'collect at station' is marked by default and can't uncheck it. What's the point of pre-book a ticket if I need to wait at the queue for collection at the machine!? Pointless unless you can buy tickets without collection needed... Also, it constantly says that there's no carnet available for the selected route, no matter what route I choose!!

Not letting me buy a ticket for the train I'm on is baffling and a major headache. Also the ticket search puts the departure and destination station at the top in the apps red header which my brain automatically ignores, leaving me wondering where the fields are, which is a bit of a UI design faux par. Aside from that it's great.

Pretty easy to use and very useful for buying block tickets, works out a lot cheaper, work needs to be done around ticket management though, I have 3 expired carnet tickets but they stay in the active section. Once all the tickets are used the carnet should move to the expired section automatically or at the very least have the latest carnet at the top!

App regularly gives an "oops something went wrong" message. reinstalling makes no difference. what's the point of providing an app that doesn't work when you need it. mind you, the train schedules are a work of fiction at the moment!

Eni. C. Jan 7, 2022

Its irritating. Why can't I buy a ticket for the train I'm on? I usually buy it the day before I travel and activate on the train. Today the app signed me out after I had downloaded my ticket. On signing in I couldn't get to it - the app treated it like a new device sign in, telling me the ticket had been downloaded onto another device. Lucky the conductor was understanding.

Missing some basic features. When using Live Times, it doesn't show a train which may be late if the scheduled departure time has passed. The train may not have arrived at your station yet but it's not listed. Live Times doesn't keep you frequently used stations and doesn't let you reverse a journey.

Cer. B. Oct 16, 2018

Had high hopes for TfW Rail but two days of using the app and it's pretty much worthless for me other than a way to show what time trains *should* run. Main problem for me is Live Times doesn't work because it shows trains as being on time when they've actually been cancelled and even when they are running, on the two days of use it has shown the train as having departed the station I use even though the train still hasn't reached us. Also still no facility to buy a monthly ticket which is frustrating.

Improvement on the arrival trains Wales app. It does the same thing but the interface is more polished. Extra points for multiflex letting you use them in either direction. One improvement would be to put shortcuts for activated tickets somewhere

Jim. H. Oct 19, 2018

Much nicer than the Arriva Trains app. Still getting multiflex tickets for the same price. Clean layout. Happy with that. Can you add the switch stations button to the live times screen? It's already on the buy tickets screen and is really useful.

And. O. Jul 14, 2019

why do expired electronic tickets remain on app and you have to scroll to the bottom to get the th current tickets. It's a complete pain when you're doing this in a rush to show the ticket collector. Maybe produce an archive section for old electronic tickets? You'd throw old paper tickets away if not needed so why keep electronic tickets on the app AND at the top? V poor and non intuitive for customer!!!!!

Gar. J. Jan 23, 2019

It's a decent app. I couldn't register using it, for some reason the register button never became active so I had to register in my browser instead. Otherwise it's responsive and functional. As it's Transport for Wales there really should be a Welsh version.

Mat. T. Oct 14, 2018

A very smartly presented app which appears to do the basics well. A promising and professional start to a business that doesn't start till Sunday. It did list tickets for a journey noting the cheapest at the top and the others were listed below - the same price.

Ros. J. Apr 5, 2019

I've changed my review because since the clocks went forward, tickets don't show as activated at the correct time. It's also frustrating that used carnet tickets cannot be removed! I hope these things are fixed soon :(

Mor. P. Sep 6, 2021

Caution when trying to use this app; I was charged for two tickets instead of one. After purchasing a ticket I had to close and reopen the app as there was no way for me to close the post-purchase/receipt page or download my ticket

Daf. Y. Jan 20, 2021

Tickets are time stamped to device time rather than network time. Means that you don't have to activate a ticket until you see that you're about to be checked - just switch your device time to around when you boarded, activate your ticket, change the device time back to the real time, and show to the guard who will be none the wiser. So handy, thanks TfW! In response to TfW's comment - that's great, and I can't wait for those fines to be invested in an app without loopholes, barriers at stations, and staff who not only have digital scanners but know how to use them!

Ste. H. Feb 28, 2020

Would be great if carnet tickets that have all been used could be pushed into expired rather than active. Also brighten the screen when on the bar code like the Trainline app does to make it easier to scan.
