For those saying some of the lessons don't work, I learned that uninstalling and reinstalling puts everything back in order! This is the best app out there. I only wish there was a pause button, and that some lessons were more broken into pieces. (Example, all the numbers being in long rows and having to watch all the way through a set to see one sign.)
It was a good app last year, but it has been abandoned and the videos don't download anymore. It is now nonfunctional. Edit: they fixed it. Good app again. However there's still a problem where an interrupted download can't be restarted. When this happens you have to delete and reinstall the app to download the module (which means downloading everything again).
exactly what i was looking for!! i enjoy that there is no sound because it gets you to focus more on the sign. there is a paywall for the rest of the app, however it is inexpensive and the full app is expansive in its lessons. definitely a must have resource. visually it is uninteresting, however, it is fully functional and minimalistic. very practical and very useful.
Felt like I was cheated on this. It started out good by consuming the free packages and I really liked the videos and content. I bought the expanded packages and now I can't download or open any of the packages. It says an error has occured. I've tried reinstalling, clearing cache, rebooting my phone, etc. It's no longer usable. So $10 down the drain. Contacted support but haven't heard back.
I've always wanted to learn sign for personal and practical reasons and this app makes it accessible and simple to learn a majority of what I need to know in my downtime compared to taking a class. The only issue I'm having is I can't select individual sections like I used to. I have to search a word/phrase to get to the section I want to. Other than that, it's a great app. Would change to 5 stars if this issue could be resolved.
I would give you 5 stars but I can't see all the categories, even though I paid to unlock them all. Some of my video categories when i click on them, open up as a different theme than the one I selected. I have like 4 categories that I can't even access, and were the main reason for me purchasing the app to begin with. This is very frustrating...please fix this issue!!!! Seems to be android, as my instructor can access them all on iphone.
I wanted to love the app but it glitches alot. I have to force stop and restart the app often. The problems started when I tried to save videos in my favorites folder (by clicking the heart in the lower left corner). When I go to the favorite tab to re watch those videos, things always freeze and glitch out. I REALLY dont want to go back through ALL those sign videos that I know, searching for the ones I need to study. Half the time I cant even remember what tab its under? Otherwise good signs!
I love this app! Everything is very clear and easy to mimic. I have always had issues hearing, and I figured I would learn sign language to help me out on worse days, so this app is my start! I've even taught my coworkers some sign, because I work in a loud kitchen and I can't always communicate or hear them. I would LOVE if this app was available on a PC or laptop, so that it would be easier for me to study at home as well :)
I love the way videos are broken down into group categories, and the signs themselves are clear to see. My issue is that even after paying to unlock the full app, I cannot open half of the categories and am back down to basically only having half an app again.* If this glitch gets fixed, it would be a 5-star app. UPDATE: Uninstalled then reinstalled the app, all my purchased categories were still available. I had to re-download the video sections but they do work now, yay!
Seems glitchy. All the videos have to be downloaded, and there are hundreds or thousands. Most videos require you to pay real money to unlock. After downloading, I still can't get some of the bundles to play. FAQ links to a white screen. Some videos are just "remember to practice x" which is unnecessary (videos take up space).
I would like for the other parts teaching ASL to be free. It's a language that should be available for everyone, not just the ones that can pay for the bundle packs or hearing impaired persons. I learned a little bit of ASL when I was a child and I've had to use it in my job a few times. I hope you'll consider unlocking the principal and important parts of the advanced bundles for everyone or at least create and set up challenges to unlock them. I imagine it's difficult, but it would benefit us all if an effort.
Any response from the app's developers? Seems quite a number of people who purchased the upgraded version of this app are unable to access the majority of the videos. Like someone else mentioned, only the Numbers lessons work, nothing else. Either get it working again or start issuing refunds. Paid way too much money just to have it out of commission with no fix in sight..
Visible video controls please. I need to go back one measly letter in the alphabet, and the options seem to be either replay the video from the start, or tap/drag and guess how far to move the invisible slider (because of the lack of video progress bar, bookmarks, or preview images when scrolling).
This app used to work great. Now, most of the categories can't be opened from the menu, and those that do open the numbers lesson. For those that have the issue, you can still get into the broken lessons by searching for something in the category you want and then picking a result in the correct category.
I love The ASL App. The app is developed, designed, and created by Deaf people. The videos are grouped by themes such as "Know your ABCs" "Universal Gestures" "The Wilderness Beckons" and the list goes on. The app itself is free, but there are only a select number of free group lessons. Each one after that is a dollar each. Totally worth it in my opinion as the videos for each sign are fantastic. I highly recommend.
Great app, all I would add is maybe a drop down menu for the sections so you don't have to scroll along the top over so many titles, and maybe an option to keep the videos on a loop.
I'm sure this will be great and I would gladly change this review if my issue gets resolved. However, currently I cannot download anything. It says an error has occured and to try again later. When I go back later, it shows it as having downloaded but won't let me click on it. When I try to access it via search it claims I haven't downloaded it, but provides no option to download.
I purchased a lesson, the download failed and their was no useful troubleshooting help or options on the app. The developers never responded, provide no help, no method to send error logs or submit a help ticket, and no refund. Glad I didn't pay for the full program. Sorely disappointed in this app and Google for passing the buck onto an absent developer.
I loved this app at first. But then it started to not respond and I couldn't open the app lessons anymore. I even contacted the app makers on their Facebook page. They responded back once with an "I dont know maybe uninstall it and reinstall." I sent another message right back explaining my concern and they never responded back to me. Very disappointing.
Have been looking for a good app for beginners fo i can learn and this one is great. Sure it not perfect in the aspect that it can't be paused and not all of them are broken up enough. But its great for beginners.
I paid the $10 for the full app - I'm really very happy with it and don't fully understand the mediocre rating. My ONLY complaint is that sometimes the videos are a little fast, and this app is SORELY missing a flashcard feature to review your lessons.
The app is really good, but you can only learn a few words before hitting a paywall. Which is fine if you're not on a budget, but keep that in mind if you are. Other than that, I wish that they had a slow-mo function on the videos because the signing can be a little fast at times. Other than that, good app!
So far this app is great for what I'm needing it for. I rewind the videos a LOT to get the hang of things but other than that, no complaints. You have to buy certain things but simple phrases, the alphabet and numbers are free to download (which doesn't take long at all). I definitely recommend this app!
Last updated Jan 2019, and as of Aug 2020 it does not work. The app loads, but none of the videos will download ("An error has occurred"). Unfortunately this renders the app useless. Maybe they'll revive the app some day, but for now I'm off to find a functioning alternative.
Why did it stop working? After opening the program no matter what you tap on, nothing works! Except.... I clicked on search, entered hello & found it. Clicked on it & it plays until I went back to the interface. I paid for it, if I try to uninstall and reinstall will it know that? ----. Well, 3 months have passed and no answer or reply. Pretty sad ☹️
I downloaded the app because free videos were very helpful. However, Once I purchased the app, some of the videos did not work. I went to the link and discovered it doesn't resolve to any website. I then sent an email about the issue I was having. Haven't recieved a respond (going on 2 weeks). Unfortunate
Never could get the free app to work. After multiple attempts and multiple troubleshooting steps. ( Samsung Galaxy phone) Never contacted support as some reviews said they were slow and I don't have time for that. Selected a different ASL app (ASL Signs, green, red, black Icon) which works ok (i rate 3.5 stars). Very surprised there isn't a very quality app out there for ASL
I paid the fee to open the whole app, all the lessons and half of them wont open. some open other sections when clicked. fix or refund my money. I never spend 10$ in an app for a reason. thank you for taking my money and giving me a half assed way to learn a language. i want expecting perfection or like Rosetta stone or anything, I'll bump it to 5 stars when all my sections I paid for work. this could be a great way to sharpen skills on the fly. but, cant learn Jack if it wont work.
I'm honestly confused by the negative reviews. For one thing, you don't have to download every video individually, they come in packs separated by subject matter. The videos themselves are excellent quality and have helpful features, such as, rewind, slow motion and pause. This app is top notch and I haven't even purchased the whole thing yet. That will definitely be happening soon.
