The app is pretty slick on the devices I've used it on. Would like to run it on a PC because the web version is horrific - the navigation is clunky and the paper doesn't render properly on different devices. Stories and pictures are cut off. What's worse is they've cut their paper delivery down to 2 days but haven't lowered the price because this is supposed to be an equivalent substitute.
Very frustrating. It requires re-opening almost everytime since it frequently stops working. Sometimes it forces you to re-download several days of previous editions even if you don't want to because there is no exit to the historical download request. Sometimes lines are missing at the bottom of pages. Almost everyday there are words written on top of other words so you can't read them. Very disappointing for a subscription which is not inexpensive.
In the winter, it's great to not have to go out and look for my paper. Problem is that the online version truncates the headlines and the columns. I don't get to read a complete article, ever. I have reloaded the Blade app, so it's not a problem at my end. I have seen this comment made by others. Unfortunately, this incomplete paper will be the only access for two days of the week soon.
Overall good, but there are some issues. Sometimes a line of type will be missing at the bottom of a column, or a line of type will be overlaid in a column near an inset picture, making it hard or impossible to read. Also, frequently a section of the first obituary page will be blank, with all or part of an article missing. Is the Blade going to fix these problems?
The app is a good way to see the Blade on non paper days or when traveling. Sometimes does not move smoothly from one day to the next or is glitchy with loading especially after a few days away. When trying to delete old downloads does not always work correctly. Support for online issues is not always helpful and extremely limited hours.
It's no fun reading a newspaper on a phone. All of the Blade online platforms have bugs, glitches and they crash regularly. The Blade owns the content and the delivery systems. No one else to blame. The print paper works perfectly every time. The online versions almost never do. The Blade should have asked us to pay more for a print edition. Failing that, they should have worked the bugs out before launching bad e-platforms.
It is ok, but many columns get the last two lines cut off and I can't finish the article. It works on my phone now , but not on my Nook or tablet. They say the device I'd not compatinle. you need to make an app that works on older devices, for us seniors that don't have money to upgrade to newer devices.
Users who experience text box overflow errors (where headlines and columns are incomplete) must change the device's default font size to one step smaller. Then the display will be perfect, at least for nearsighted people. You can always zoom to read. To change the default font size, go to the device's Settings menu, select Display, select Font and screen zoom, and under FONT SIZE, click the line divider one mark left of center. Ideally the developer would change the font size within the app.
I can't get my papers to load. Updates, unistalled, and re-installed, still the images won't load for me to read. I can see them in the "thumbnail view" but that's it. Can't read that. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to discontinue using this app since it does not function properly.
Unless something has changed this app does not work well with Android tablets. Many parts of the text are not visible and are apparently hidden by ads. The headlines are not readable. If it is only for apple devices this could be made clear in the title. addendum: have different android devices and have found that this app worked with android version 6.0 but not 7.0 or 8.0
I really like the Blade online. it's exactly the same as the print paper in a much more convenient size and no recycling. Only complaint, I can't do the puzzles. it keeps crashing. I have to constantly uninstall and reinstall to get it to download.
Moving through the sections and articles is very easy. I especially like using the app on my phone. Since previous issues are also available it allows me to look back and refer to older articles. Scanning the obituaries is a little tedious but easier on a bigger screen like a tablet. I like the app. it's like carrying the Blade wherever I go.
Once app opens and the latest edition loads, it works fine. But if you leave the app running then come back to it, it always freezes and requires a refresh and then restart of the app. This usually happens to me multiple times a day since I like to read a few articles at a time.
This past week, this app started to produce mostly blank pages. Nothing that I could do fixed it. I found that there are 3 'The Blade' apps. Although this app is terrible, the one with the icon that is a B on a solid blue background seems to address all of my complaints about this one.
I have subscribed to the Blade for over 50 years. And have used digital Blade since it's inception. However I had not been able to read the whole Blade for 4 weeks. I get the Pages of Opinion and the last page of the 1st section. I do not get anything from the second section except the last page. As for the Peach o get the front page. THAT'S IT! I can't find an email to send a message regarding this. Also, I have deleted the ap and reload it without success. I can't get it on my tablet, etc
Well today was the worst. Tried to read Mondays version, of course it brings up the last time you opened the app. That should be an option for the user to define how it opens the versions. So today the app gets stuck and won't open Mondays with Saturdays version on the page. Tried to close the app and restart, that didn't help. Decided to power off my device and start the app again trying to get to Mondays version, still stuck on Saturday. You know I never had this problem when it was delive
Terrible!! Loads eblade one day then next day app crashes or requires sign in again. I use other newspaper apps without any issues. Come on Blade is this the best you can do? If doesn't improve then I will have to cancel. 2/26/22.....Same issues and still no improvements!!
Terrible. Never downloads correctly. Difficult to open. This will never and should never replace an actual page turning newspaper . I understand technology and costs but there is nothing like an old fashioned newspaper.
3 Wednesdays since early November I have a problem with the paper! One would not download on either of my tablets and the other 2 had blank pages and others that appeared encrypted and were not readable. This what I keep paying more for!!!
Why does your app crash all the time to the point of having to uninstall and then re-install? It's been been this way for a year or so. Update: Still crashes and unresponsive after one or two views. I have to uninstall then re-install. Does the app developer read these reviews? Apparently not.
Difficult to move thru/find and read what you want to read. If you start something. Difficult to find and finish an article. Difficult to find your way back to the next article when you do find the end of an article of interest. Difficult to find things you want to read. The whole thing is a painful time consuming process. if this is how the Blade will be delivering news, I'll likely find a different news resource.
I find this app difficult at times to navigate. Sometimes my paper loads quickly and efficiently, other times it takes a long time to get downloaded. I wish there was a way to close out an edition before going to the next one to read. I don't want to delete an edition I want to go back to.
like the new feature to click on articles, maybe it will fix the problem of articles ending in mid sentence, words scrambled together in middle of paragraphs, growing pains I'm sure, but these things should've been worked out before the launch, also like the extra content, should be able to go back & read editions you missed but can't
r. Problem continues. cant read full headlines and bottom line sometimes cut off of stories. I couldn't in large print to read better. I re-downloaded apps as suggested by blade. same problems when open from email the blades sends daily. my 1st job was blade carrier over 50 yrs ago. subscribed to blade my whole life. I will not re-subcribe next year. party because condense stories and bad reporting.
The Blade app is quite glitchy. It rarely downloads pictures correctly. It sometimes kicks you out of the edition you're reading and then will refuse to reload it because you're supposedly reading it. I've had to delete and reinstall the app twice because it froze up entirely.
The print is too small to read on my phone and when I enlarge it I get so little of the page it inconvenient to read. I'd rather put it on my laptop but so far it won't take it. Also, I'd like to get a hard copy of the article on native plants, but apparently that's not possible...I am fairly disappointed
The latest update seems to have taken care of the issues of cutoff articles and over running text. The new feature of being able to tap the blue headline and see the entire article is fantastic. Good job.
Will not open, keeps crashing, have sent several emails, with no response, tried restarting phone, uninstalling, deleting cache. Still doesn't open, what's the point of having an application if you can't use it.
Digital edition doesn't work on Android phones. Talked to the blade 3/18/19 they ssid they haven't heard of any problems with Android phones they need to look at the reveiws posted about the digital edition. The blade told me it was designed for computers and tablets. I also have a Samsung 10.1 tab A tablet. When i went to download the app for the digital edition my tablet said the the app wont work on my tablet. Come on Blade fix the problem please.I am going to call them today on this issue.
The digital version of the Blade is not formatted correctly. Sometimes when you come to an end of a story the last lines are cut off. Also sometimes it looks like words were typed over. Not all pictures download so you have a caption under where the picture is with no picture. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Blade because the paper wouldn't download. I prefer reading the hard copy version of the Blade. The digital version is harder to read due to formatting and download issues.
