The Boston Globe e-Paper

Will not load daily epaper on Chromebook. It will load daily ePaper through the other Boston Globe app (the one with the black icon). UPDATE- Now it will not load through either app. I get the black Boston Globe logo, then a white screen.

The update is terrible. The bottom and top bars take up too much room on my tablet when I open individual articles. See reader Bernie Coyne's review for more details.

The recent e-paper update is a good example of an update making a product worse instead of better. Among the worst things, the previous day's edition "sticks" on my iPad; in other words, in the morning when opening the app, yesterday's edition appears. Before the update, I would simply tap the X at the top of the screen, X out the previous day's edition, and the current day's edition would appear. NOW, I have to delete the app, and start over! NEW navigating features are awful too!

Sadly the updates caused more harm than good. Original simple program to download paper for reading The Globe without WiFi just does not work. Paper loads slowly , if at all now. The entire paper rarely completes loading which I've discovered when trying to read. The old app wasn't the best, but 90% of the time I had a paper to read while away from internet. I removed & reloaded twice so far.

I wanted to like this app. When it works, it is an easy and enjoyable way to view the paper. When it does not, which is often, it is frustrating. I like to use this app to download the paper at home so I can read it later on my tablet without needing Internet access. The problems with the app is that it gets stuck on an old paper (i.e. Thursday’s paper when I trying to read Fridays). It refuses to let me see or download the new paper. I’ve tried: 1) The refresh arrow. Rarely this works. Mostly it does not. 2) Deleting old downloaded papers. Occasionally that fixes it. Mostly it does not. 3) Deleting the cache (under settings). Occasionally that fixes it. Mostly it does not. 4) Restarting the app. That usually does not fix it. 5) Sometimes rebooting the tablet helps. However, by this point I’ve usually given up on the idea of reading paper that day. How about an update for this app? With a few fixes (and some testing) this could be a good app. But the Globe does not seem to care judging by the less the 2 star ratings for this app.

This app is inconsistent. Some stories can't be opened while others can. Some pages can be enlarged enough to view the pictures while others can't. Sometimes 2 stories that are set next to each other but only one will open although it looks like both were selected.

The old app disappeared from my Samsung tablet, so I had no choice but to download this one. This one is inferior to the old one. It doesn't remember where in the paper you stopped reading, so you have to start at the beginning each time you open the edition. The display window size is smaller, making it hard to read. It doesn't allow you to set up "auto deletion" after a certain number of days. These are just some of the problems I'm having with the new app.

How can one get back to Page 1 without having to reinvent the wheel, or tap page back 20 times?

With this new March 209 release of the app I am pleased to learn that developers are still working on this. But I am very disappointed that the app seems to have regressed. Here are my suggestions for improvement: 1. The page no longer fits my 10" tablet without resizing every page manually. 2. The new navigation across the top of the page is unnecessary. I know you have a toggle to hide it so make that the default. 3. The download no longer shows a progress bar. Without it you do not know whether it is actually downloading or not. 4. It still has the annoying behavior of checking your credentials if connected to the internet even though you have already downloaded today's paper. 5. I really miss the hyperlinks that used to appear when an article is continued to another page. 6. Please review these suggestions and others on this page on how to improve this app. Even reach out directly to these customers and have them beta test the app next time so that you can get some real world feedback and change this into a better rated experience for customers. Thank you.

This Boston Globe app provides a visual representation of the actual newspaper. Articles are therefore prioritized and organized based on how they're shown in the paper, not based on your past interests or how popular they are. If you like having your editorials grouped at the end of the A section, or being able to flip to the sports section and read about the Sox, Bruins, Celtics, and Patriots all in one place, this is the app for you. If you want a customized feed, use the other Globe app!

Many times a month the app won't download the edition. I sometimes have to uninstall and reinstall to get it to work. When trying to print a page such as the crossword it cuts off the bottom inch of the page even with margins at zero.

This app is practically unusable. Every 3rd or 4th page doesn't load, it's slow to respond and more. In frustration I end up not reading the paper at all, and why pay for a paper that can't be read? The old app worked just fine.

Works, kind of. The Globe team often has a problem demarcing articles so they can be clicked on. While I see all articles easily from the page view, which is better than the website, the issue above makes it frustrating.

On Samsung Tablet with Android system the download does not always work, the article pop-up window is too small, and it often returns to page one so you lose your place. If the Washington Post can have an app that works, why can't the Globe?

Very slow load times. I need to frequently close/restart app because it's hung. So annoying it makes me want to cancel my subscription. Text/article rendering is good, just very slow

I guess when you close the app and reopen it, the app gets hung up and won't open. Have to quit the app and reopen it. If that were fixed I bet the ratings would boost.

the article view is a small window for my 10" tablet Android 6.0.2. previous version worked fine with the article view filling screeen completely. May cancel my subscription if it is not fixed.

My wife has a tablet and I have a tablet and the app will not work for both devices. I believe it is because it looks at the registered email address and only one. I still am satisfied with the the app.

Me going around in circles just trying to switch to digital edition & my darn ongoing password login issues, respectively. Of course, I''m trying to be more responsible for my budget these days thanks to my mom's helpful advice in Boothbay Harbor, ME in late JUN '17 about reducing any unnecessary expenditures. The e-paper downloads ok, but if i go offline, (travel, no WiFi, etc.), some pages load, some don't. Very disappointed with this app.

much worse than old app. Others have described problems. Come on Boston Globe! Fix it. And keep in mind that we pay a lot to get epaper.

I can't download the paper. I get screen that tells me I'm subscribed and links me to managing my account mm but no help downloading or reading. Disappointing. One star is too much.

It's great for Apple users, but not for Android. If you have an android phone I don't recommend updating this app..the News you want to read.. it wont let you pull out the story. Wish I didn't update my app..

The pages cut off so it's difficult to read. Today's first page was the "opinion" section. Why can't they get this right??? Who works on this app the three stooges??!!

App doesn't handle errors well. no option to save data to SD card. doesn't restart well

The app kept hanging. After I reinstalled it everything was fine.
