Unable to unsubscribe without calling and they close mid-day. Unable to opt out of targeted ads
I have loved my Columbus Dispatch app and use it to read my daily Dispatch. However, this update made it worse. It took away the sections menu on the bottom left hand side which allowed me to read the sections in a different order than the order of the day's newspaper. Now it is more difficult to enjoy my Dispatch the way I wish. Otherwise this app works very well. But, please return the section menu.
Updated January 2021: thank you for fixing this! Much appreciated. Would enjoy better if every push notification took you to *that* particular story vs what it does now, which is to take you to the newest push story. In other words, if you receive 2 push notifications, the newest one supercedes the older one, even if you select the older one to read.
2nd review: App worked for about a month but now it's doing the same thing it was before. I'm logged in, app recognizes that I'm logged in but I can't access and read articles b/c of the pop-up in middle of screen telling me I need to subscribe or login. REALLY? Is it so hard to hire competent developers or is the cost too much? So freaking annoying. Time to cancel.
Should be much better. Notifications are sent, but are not connected to the article about that particular story. Sometimes it routes to the online site that is selling subscriptions. As a subscriber I haven't figured out how to get around it. When I look for the story in the app (when logged in) it cannot be found. The app also doesn't post local stories, unless they fall into one of the other categories such as business or entertainment.
App doesn't work, paid for a subscription and they updated this and it does NOT work on android device. After an update the app worked well for a few weeks then it stopped working and is back to being inoperable. This is a very poor service. I shouldn't need to reinstall this app every few days and be locked out for days.
Can't sign in. App doesn't conform to Google secure browser's policy. But since I created account through my Google account, I can't sign in any other way. Makes app essentially useless. You want to support local journalism, but they have to actually want to be supported, you know?
Third update: Joining the "can't log in" chorus. New phone led to an updated app that is no better. Clicking sign in leads to blank screen. Same happens on Chrome browser. Clicking subscribe shows I have a subscription but I am still blocked on the browser. This must be how Gatehouse it's offloading it's debt.
Why change the app. Old version worked great. Now we're back to lousy. When you tap on a news item it enlarges and is chopped off on the right half of the page. In short you can't read over half the paper. Total waste.
All of a sudden all I get is an old newspaper. I cleared the cache. Now I get nothing. I tried to search for another app for my kindle. I used to be able to read one article at a time. Now all can do is try to read a page of small print and try to remember everything in that page. When my year is up, I am cancelling.
I am a subscriber. Like other users. I get a story notification via the app. I go to the story, (Buckeye extra content), click on hyperlink and can see story... but in 3 to 5 seconds, a pop wants me to subscribe. I try using very bottom hyperlink for existing subscribers but it only confirms email address and that I am a subscriber. Still can't read the original story. rinse ad repeat daily. Awful app
I have no idea how to open the paper so I can read it. Eventually able to close the extra ad bar on left. Takes several minutes before able to use. Help, this is so much worse than the previous version.
Spinning my wheels....running in circles trying to update and open this so-called new app. Absolutely horrible. Hire someone who knows what they are doing with programs and apps. Every time you mess with this, you screw up my e edition. Absolute joke!
App required update but wouldn't update. Uninstalled and reinstalled and now can't get e-edition. E-edition app gives error and says it's not optimized for my Samsung Tab A. Two useless apps for the Dispatch. All we want is the e-edition in an app so we can read the paper we're paying for.
It displays some news. That's about it. Often I will get a notification of a particular article, click on it, and it would open a different article. The reason I don't pay $40 a year for the app, it's glitch central.
Unbelievably buggy app. Have to regularly delete and reinstall because it doesn't recognize a valid subscription. So many others have complained about the same thing. How could they allow it to continue to be this awful?!
I am very disappointed with this app. I have a subscription and can't use the app to read articles. It keeps blocking me and the customer service when contacted wasn't very helpful. It has been over a month and still no change.
I have the 6 months trial for $1/month. This app keeps wanting me to subscribe again. I don't pay through Google. Note to developer: You must code to bridge the non-Google payers/subscribers to login and be recognized with permission to access subscriber content. It's not that difficult to do. Fix this as a priority because Gannett can't afford more reader losses!
Wish I could give this app a negative rating. New versions E-edition totally android unfriendly. Does not support magnification, if you do page gets truncated. No reading for you. Now today have to relogin and then asked 'Do I want to open in App or Browser?'. First I am already in the app why are you asking. So select App and get web page not found. WHAT!! Just keep worse and worse. WHY. AM I PAYING FOR THIS
I have to clear storage on this app every few articles. I get a message saying I have read all my free articles, even though I'm a subscriber. PLEASE fix this. It's VERY annoying and has been going on for years.
Have used the app before and worked well, but now it won't turn the page on any of my devices. You have to open then close a tab to get it to the next page. Very frustrating!
This app won't download. Combined with a print copy with 2 day old news and a frustrating online version, I'm having difficulty continuing to justify my 7 day subscription. I want to support local journalism but not getting much back.
Poorly designed. Kept asking for login whenever I opened the app, then says I don't have an account even though we have a delivery account. Emails to support replies to call 800 number, but they can't fix it. Whoever is responsible for the authentication process should be fired.
I have a feeling the developers of this app never read these reviews. Like so many other subscribers and app users, almost every time I try to use the app I'm blocked because I've reached my limit of free articles. I'm logged in and paid up (through the nose), but I still can't read the news. Don't waste your time until they've fixed this useless app.
Every few months have to delete app then reinstall it. It doesn't hold my password. A message appears telling me I read my 10 free articles and have to subscribe. I am a subscriber! The message gives me no option to sign in again. The only option is to subscribe. Never have this issue with NY Times app or others. This is the worst app I've ever used! Dispatch should be embarrassed.
