Disappointed. I was promised I can play an "evil villain" but all I got are 3-4 SLIGHTLY evil choices at the END and a few paragraphs worth of epilogue that describes how evil I did. And I say slightly because *SEMI-SPOILERS* all I ever did was steal something. I didnt even get to kill annoying characters (which I was really looking forward to) like that "they" freak Mundy and that douchebag Harry. I would've loved the story more if there was no empty promises, the same way I loved the first.
Good beginning and end, wish the middle was more interesting
eh the first one was better, wish the story was focused on the people you already knew.
really liked it!
I enjoyed this game very much.
I actually purchased this book. Cryptkeepers of Hallowsford takes place six months after the events of Hero of Kendrickstone. Hallowsford is a small town with a secretive guild in power and in need of help. Currency isn't as useful in this game as the first and my playthrough had the book of madness in it. The plot was decent but the story seems the same regardless of your choices. Three different endings that felt short and to the point. It's a decent sequel but not as good as the first book.
Its good except that nothing other then name, occupation and lore knowledge carry over. I was expecting to pull out The Book of Madness to boost my spell power or provide knowledgeable help but its non existent in this chapter, same deal with any other special gear you get, none of it carries over. Hopefully this is remedied in the next chapter.
Agree with everyone on length and some equipment carried over as in basic stuff none of the "legendary items" do other than that short memories. The sequel was a surprise the save port was added right before release as an update to the hero of kendrickstone so even though it's a given we got a 3rd coming stop complaining about a port
By far the worst way you could have handled a sequel for the Hero of Kendrickstone. Far too short. Doesn't build up at all just hi heres a bunch of random people fight this thing for us. There is no time to get to know any character even if you paid me I couldn't remember anyone's name. And the ending just cuts off we have no say what happens in hallowford nor do we even see what happens to it because of are actions.
The sword was missing. Magic is not thought out well.
Great game. I so hope there's a sequel in the works.
A little short but loved it and hope for more
Good game a little short and had a few grammar mistakes, but it was pretty good overall. I wish there had been some kind of reminder of the choices you had made in the previous book considering it had been a long time since I played the first one. Also wonder if there should have been some sort of save system since it seems like they are going to have a third book.
Great premise and great potential for a truly fun game. Cataphrak's writing is some of the best I've seen on CoG, but this doesn't live up to it. Not a worthy sequel to the fun Hero of Kendrickstone. It just felt too rushed and I didn't really feel any connection to the NPCs unlike HoK. The "romance" was lackluster at best with a small mention at the end with very few choices. I paid the $5 thinking this would be another HoK, which I was wrong about. Again, usually love Cataphrak's work but this one l ext much to be desired. Hopefully more effort is put into the next one.
Honestyly I found it very good; BUT I have some issues with what isn't included and with the mechanics. In these games, you kind of need romance. And I know this is part of a series, so from a purely narrative it may make sense to not have anything more than a "you started a relationship with ___" at the end. But you've gotta hook the audience; waiting till next game may mean less people will be excited for and ultimately end up getting it. Added to that, some of the characterization for the options was, I felt, a tad weak. I ended up feeling like I wanted more time with them to get to know them. Finally, gold. Gold was big in Kendrickstone, but didn't really feel like it was all that valuable then other than for the comfort stat (which I was sad to see go without being replaced with any other means for bonuses). In this game there seems to be litle use for it at all. Currency systems should feel balanced is all I'm saying; see the Lost Heir Trilogy for that.
Pretty much the same with everyone else's review. A bit too short, no way to save for the next game, and a tad bland. Also, when porting my save from the previous game, neither the sword of Kendrick, or the book of whispers was even mentioned. . .sooo yeah. Not worth the price all in all.
It's good, but it's missing the variety of Kendrickstone. It's good as a continuation of the first game, but I can't see it standing on its own. If you liked Hero of Kendrickstone, buy this. If you haven't played it, then do so and make your decision after.
It was incredibly short for a $5 price tag. Although it was interesting premise it felt incredibly rushed, like there wasn't time to get myself in the atmosphere or immersed in the story, but 3 stars for the potential and the story as it is.
Garbage, this sequel was rushed & all decisions felt railroaded. There is nothing to spend silver on, the characters are generic & there is almost no mention of anything from the first game, this sequel was totally tacked on. Worst $5 I ever spent.
I'm a fan of Paul Wang's stories but this one was a real let down. There wasn't much depth, it was quite short and the absence of a save file at the end leads me to believe that there will be no sequel. Quite disappointing.
I loved it! However, it looks like you're setting up for a sequel and I couldn't save my game for the next one. If this is resolved will amend to 5 star review :D
A good read for sure. Though not one of the best from CoG.
It's even better than the first I hope we get to see a book 3
Incredibly short for the price. I've played longer and better COGs that were half the price. The story is decent, but the ending is lackluster. Also, the romance is nonexistent until the very end and then it's over before it even starts. Overall, save your money. This one is definitely not worth the high price tag.
Not even in the same league as hero of Kendrickstone, many choices I encountered either had no bearing on the story or led to dead ends. There were quite a few times throughout the story when seemingly important choices all led to failures. It seemed as if the author just wanted you to think you had choices and forced you down the only path there was under the guise or it being a "choice". No stat development and every "stat check" was a failure.
The premise is great but this felt more like the set-up to a story than the actual story. There was no stat development except for reputation.
It's a pretty nice continuation, and a great set up for further adventures. You can really feel that some of the decisions made here will affect events of future titles. That said, I have to wonder, is there no save feature so I can load up my character for the hopefully incoming 3rd book?
Free content is rather epic. Only thing is it's much more of a book than a game, with much more text than choices. But it's superbly, cleverly written, and the cliffhanger is quite harrowing.
Was good but too short. I know its supposed to be like the middle so i was expecting that kind of ending but more interactions would have been good maybe some mini scenes that will help build your character basically its like playing 1 mission then done.
Ehhh the first one was a lot better this one had a lot of continuity errors and well the gameplay just didn't feel as good or as engaging. For example when you learned that you can take care of the monsters by destroying their joints the game acts as if the only way to kill them is with your book of madness.
