Devs need to work on this app big time. Notifications weirdly have no preview, just...an alert for no apparent reason; doesn't give any clue what may or may not be happening. Also, no option for dark mode??? News feed is ok.
I just signed up and downloaded the app. It's freezing like crazy. They should remove the app altogether and not advertise this as an option to read the news. Hope I have better luck with my e-tablet. I'll give it a chance.
Downloading is a joke. Downloaded the paper to read on plane. When in airplane mode, account not logged in so can't read Downloaded content. Worthless! None of the buttons work on the settings tab either
After an article is selected, the app does not scroll correctly on Samsung S21 phone. Scrolling is jittery and jumpy to the point of being unusable. Previous version has no issue. This same issue has been reported by multiple users. This is a major bug and you should have released a fix by now. This is not something that should wait for the next scheduled "feature" update. We deserve bettet at the price we pay for digital subscriptions. You are about to lose a 30-year subscriber.
The fact that this app has an excessively high number of 1 rating speaks to the problems this app has. When reading a story, moving up and down the story becomes very uncontrolled. When trying to print a puzzle, it sometimes only prints the title. This app was last updated in October, these issues should have been fixed by now.
Supposedly this app is "updated" -- but, as ever, if you want to use it on a Samsung tablet, don't waste your time. It's buggy, it crashes, and it doesn't function right when it does work (e.g. can't move to a different section without flipping thru every page). Garbage.
Include a setting to opt out of the exceedingly annoying, daily push news alerts or I'm deleting the app and my subscription.
Most news articles won't completely fit on any smartphone and require scrolling to continue reading - understandable. When trying to scroll to continue reading it will usually jump to the end of article or some other random spot and has been doing this for months. Frustrating af. Come on DMN, whoever is responsible for the app, it can't be that hard to fix. Many year subscriber print and digital. Galaxy Note 9.
New app won't let me view digital content, only ePaper. Doesn't recognize log in (I know it's correct). Used to pay $4.99, now it wants me to subscribe though website for $18.99. That's a big difference. I don't want ePaper (can't read it on mobile) and I don't want paper delivery to by house. Not sure why they did away with mobile only. Emailed support, they said I can't subscribe thru app store, but no other way to do it, so that wasn't helpful. So disappointing.
I've never had the 'paper' (down)load successfully using the app (Samsung S9, in-home wifi connection). I gave it 2-stars because I can navigate the e-paper using an internet browser and I really like that interface. You still get the influence of the editor's in terms of placement and organization, but the ease and speed of online articles when you find something that interests you. I think this had potential, it just doesn't work for me yet.
Very buggy. Constant login and authentication errors, often required to enter creds two ir even three times in one session. The "share" function fails to display story art as intended. Frequently impossible to pull up individual articles. Nothing ever gets better. "New" version is just as buggy as the old. Frustrating to use.
One of the worst apps I've ever seen. Scrolling through articles is a joke. It won't scroll down without the article jittering and jumping all over. Sometimes the e-paper won't even load and if it does it takes a long time. This all has gone on for a long time meaning the developers do not care. AVOID!!
I purchased a subscription through Google Play. After the most recent update was pushed out, I can no longer access my paid subscription. Using the "restore subscription" button does not work. The subscription is linked to the old app which is no longer available to download. The FAQ section of the app does not work. Support hours are limited. Subscribing through Google Play does not enable website access, but it is the only way to purchase a subscription without auto-renew that requires a phone call to cancel.
DMN servers are dreadfully slow. The app works somewhat ok in off peak hours, but really drags in the AM, evening, and Sunday morning is a joke. It took 3 tries and almost 2 minutes to finally download the Sunday edition yesterday (this is a 30 second operation during off peak times). Trying to use the "live" function of the app results in lots of spinning circles while data is loaded. Please update your servers DMN, this is 2019 and not hard to solve!
Terrible app. I wish I could give it a 1/2 star. Login problems often having to reenter login info. Apparently changes/updates often but doesn't fix basic user interface problems. Last update doesn't have full page display button at top. Really, a major city newspaper with such a poor digital version. Obviously only option in the area for local news otherwise I'd have dumped it long ago. Seriously, hire some real application development people. Did these developers work on AHC web site?
This is their answer to having a poor mobile-native DMN app. While better in the sense that you can actually read the stories and see all of the day's news, the app is really primative. When you click into a story there is limited range of font sizes and it isn't a good experience for me. YMMV
Total garbage app. Paid for full month digital subscription. A week later kept taking me to the sign up / subscribe page. When I enter email and password, app tells me both are invalid. Will not allow password reset. Their news is not worth the hassle of doing anything except terminating my subscription, uninstalling the app, and TELLING EVERYONE THIS IS A GARBAGE RIP-OFF APP! So many 1-star reviews and not one single seller or developer response tells us all that DMN does not care about us.
Paid subscribers are forced to repeatedly log in (again) to read another article after clicking on the links displayed at end of the first article. Clicking on articles in DMN tweets doesn't take you to their app, it opens the phone's browser where, you guessed it, another login is required.
Like other reviews of this app, the Dallas Morning News ePaper, when it works, it is fine. However from time to time, the app will start with a white screen as normal, then flash to all black then nothing...... The app is still V1.0.0 running on an Samsung Tab-A running Android v7. I have sent emails to the developer which turns out to be the DMN. No updates ore fixes offered. In an word - UGH!
It just doesn't work at all as well as Washington Post or NYT. Stories take time to load and the screen jumps around due to endless loading of ad content making it frustrating to read articles. NYTimes and Washington Post sites are much smoother and more stable.
App is very slow to start. Some issues do not give you the option to select a section of the paper. Sometimes it is not possible to click on an article to just display that article. But when all the stars align the app is great!
Completely does not work on my Samsung Note 9. You can see the front pages from the last 3 days but when you try to view the "paper" infinite work circle. Downloading just says 0% and again infinite work circle. Please help development team. This is a good idea but it needs to work.
Useless. Won't allow saving the issue for offline reading on my flight, duplicate articles are annoying, works on iPad half the time and on my Android phone 1/10. For a newspaper trailing smoke and losing altitude, this is not the way to keep readers happy
The app used to work fine. Now, I got a message that my username and password are correct, but I do not have a subscription. This does not occur on the Apple version. The developers for the app have basically said that it's all user error and refused to cooperate and trying to find a problem.
I have to reinstall this app every other day on my Samsung Android device when I get locked on a white screen. I do better on my iPad although the updated version is not nearly as good as the 2019 version Now I have to sign in daily and I can't directly go to the beginning page of a section but instead I have to pick a story to start with
Won't load half the time and functionality is hit and miss. Actually reminds me of when I had the paper delivered and it only showed up about half the time!
This app has vastly improved recently. You can see an image of the newspaper then click on article. It's easy to navigate and easy to read. This app has made me finally think about stopping delivery of the newspaper and just using my subscription to read electronically
