Audio player much better after the latest update. Edit: after some experience, I still think this version is much better than the older one but what absolutely drives me mad is that, if I skip listening to an article in the queue that it will play from the beginning again once I reach the end of the queue. I think the app could be improved of skipped articles were simply deleted.

.The new Android version is the worst version ever. It won't keep playing. It forgets where I left off the previous day, and frequently needs to have the current week's edition redownloaded. Update 8 months later: Just updated the app again and, while they may have fixed the problem of the app losing its place, now it won't play if you don't have a wifi connection, even if all the audio was previously downloaded. And it stops after story, requiring you to bring up the app and press 'play' again.

You can get your subscription digitally downloaded so you can read it where there is no WiFi or cell reception. The data are deleted later (you can choose when). And it will read the articles for you so you can use it when driving or working out. 👍 The only downside is the in-app ads. I already pay for a subscription. I don't mind seeing ads I can scroll over in the articles, but the full-screen ones I have to swipe away are obnoxious.

The Economist is a great newspaper. I love the style in which it is written, delivering commentary with wit and wisdom. However the app falls short of this quality. It is not a cheap subscription yet flaws in the app continue and improvements in line with ever shifting technology go unmade. Most of the problems lie with the audio. It should pick up where you left off, but instead often returns to the issue selection page. The playlist simply doesn't work. It is not compatible with Android auto.

Great content, as you would expect, but the app is littered with bugs. The app will delete downloaded editions without warning, it stops playing audio files without warning and crashes continually. I've used the Economist App for at least 5-6 years and the experience is always the same (iPhone, Android). There has never been any improvement and given the cost of the subscription, it can't be justified.

Content is so great. Great to see you are trying to update the app. However it's full of bugs keeps crashing, ruining the user experience, not clear what has been played or not, difficult to select one article at a time. Doesn't reflect the quality of the journalism. Such a shame for such a great publication. Hope it can get fixed !

This app is borderline unusable. While the iOS version had some bugs with audio playback, the Android version consistently loses its position and requires episodes to be re-downloaded. The 'increase speed' feature is there in the top right-hand corner next to the fast forward button, but the button itself is not visible. The quality of this app is making me question whether or not to re-subscribe to The Economist.

The app is nice, night mode is pretty. I use it everyday, but it's very buggy. 1. Tends to lose the Playlist often. 2. Recently, it does not play the next item in the Playlist automatically. 3. Some times it loses internet connection, incorrectly. Then your Playlist is gone. Some features are weird: 1. When you are listening to an audio and if you go to the home screen, the audio stops 2. Articles and the audios are separate. Why? 3. Audios cannot be deleted manually. App uses a lot of space!

It mostly works, but the experience is sub-par. Issues I've encountered include editions having to be redownloaded for some unknown reason, the interface not being aware of Pixel 3's notch at the top of the screen, and (most annoyingly) not being able to play the audio version over Bluetooth when I'm in the car. My suggestion: developers, outsource this work to someone more qualified, as you're clearly not up to the task.

The content is very good, if a little too liberal on how businesses should operate. Been a subscriber for years. But the app is a real pain to use. Even after 10 minutes of doing something else, I have to choose my edition, navigate an ad and then scroll through the contents to find where I was. This can only be by design to make us see more ads, which is very disappointing.

The content is irreproachable, but I cannot fail to notice that the app's interface is not on par with today's UI design. It's sluggish, it doesn't remember where I left off in an article, it does not enable immersive mode to hide the navbar and the overall interface is not as polished as say, the Espresso app. Even the icon is not adapted to Android's new rounded format.

Great. Superb writing and content of course d you'd expect. Also very engaging and intuitive format. It's pleasingly easy on the eye, and of course The Economist has always had excellent visuals, cartoons and graphics, which translate beautifully into the digital version. The audio versions of the articles are great for driving, although some of the voices sound a bit machine-like. I'd always choose a nice human voice where possible. All in all a great digital experience of a superb, world renowned publication.

I strongly recommend this app to everyone experiencing problems with the main app. After trying the main app with all its flaws and long loading times this is an incredible contrast. Everything works smoothly, the sections and the articles load quickly and even the audio player is much better (though I would prefer a slightly more customisable experience, especially concerning the speed). 5 stars - I don't know why they moved away from this version.

The Economist is a phenomenal way to stay informed. The app makes it extremely easy to access the wide breadth of News, essays, and reports that the Economist reporters investigate. The App sometimes suffers from some issues with playing audio that requires you to restart the app a number of times, which while you are driving is not very safe. Overall, my most used news source and despite the apps shortcomings, one of my most used apps.

I enjoy the journalism offered by The Economist. However, this app is sometimes a painful experience: 1. "Internet Connection" error whenever I move from wifi connection to data roaming or vice versa on the audio. 2. On audio, sometimes my phone becomes extremely slow to respond. 3. There's got to be an easier way to delete downloaded issues as well as downloaded audio. Happy to move the rating to 5 stars once these issues are fixed.

The editorial content is excellent. I particularly enjoy downloading the audio version of each Edition. Makes it easy to cover the entire issue within a single week. The audio in the app could do with some improvement. I am runnng Android 7, Nougat. In order to download the Audio I must close all of my apps and then reboot my Android phone. Sometimes audio disappears between listening sessions. I have to download it again. Earlier version of audio app did not have these issues.

The Economist itself is great. I'm delighted to receive it in audio format, it is the only format that allows me to get through all of the content every week. The app itself was good a number of years ago, had some sort of disastrous overhaul maybe a year or two ago that made it very challenging to use and has been steadily improving since then. It's still a bit buggy and does things like claim I haven't downloaded files I recently have. Overall a bit quirky still but workable.

The Economist is known for its deep research and astonishing editorials. They are still the same but the main problem is with the interface of its app. I find it difficult many time to just open the app and search for the articles and when I click on the notification it just doesn't open the app right away. It feel like it didn't recognize the command to open it. There are quite a few modification require in the app to match the level of it reputation.
