The Eighth Continent (Free)

'The Eighth Continent' is an interactive novel in which you are the story's hero!

In a world devastated by a cataclysmic super-eruption, you must search for your lost family.  Who should you trust?  What dangers await you in the volcanic wasteland?

Scavenge, fight, hack, and trade your way through a ruined world.

Features:
- A branching storyline; make crucial choices and live with the consequences.
- Conditional choices, where your options may depend on the items in your inventory, your health or mental state, previously visited locations, your reputation with other characters, or even your wealth!
- A card-based fighting mini-game.
- A mini-game for hacking electronic locks.
- A mini-game where you scavenge for precious goods.
- Vendors to buy and sell.
- A decryption mini-game to decode secret records.
- An inventory of consumables and quest items for you to manage.
- Over 700 pages.
- Over 20 achievements.
- An automatic bookmark save system.

Suitable for adults and young adults alike, the book uses clean language throughout and contains mild fictional violence in the form of a card game.  Although a standalone story, 'The Eighth Continent' is the first book of a trilogy; books two and three are already written, and will be released as apps soon.

The app is designed for both phones and tablets, and works in both landscape and portrait orientations.

(This is an ad-supported version of the paid app 'The Eighth Continent'.)

I love this game! I first downloaded The Eighth Continent about a year ago and forgot to review it. If you like "choose your own adventure" type games, do not pass this one by! The story is great, there's lots of choices, mental and health bars add unique difficulty, and the battles are fun and engaging. The second installment of the game is also great.

I downloaded this game years ago and finished it but never came back to leave a review. I decided to fix that because this is a game worth praising. The story is well written and the apocalyptic narrative unique, a super volcanic eruption mixed with gigantic monster bugs? Very nice. The mini games are also enjoyable, one for each type of activity so it doesn't get too stale. And of course the creators were generous enough not to charge for part 1 or part 2, but I'd say you should pay regardless.

Its biggest problems are the mini games which they force you to play in order to move on...And If you actually don't get frustrated by the sheer repetitive mini games and pass through till the end you don't feel like you have finished but rather you get a To Be Continued...and download the sequel. I have read many ppl here commenting on the mini (plumber style) game and cant help but agree, there are so many better versions. In short this is a game that is trying to be to many things.

This game is so great!! A perfect mix between miningame challenges and perfect storytelling. I love that theres no adds, and the game really feels like something thats meant to take you on an adventure and not just something made to earn money. I only wish it continued on with the story past where the game ends

i've always excited for story games, especially if there are some features like this game. but the more story tells, i find the words more difficult to understand, since english is not my mother tongue. and the mini games become more boring for me, make me think that this is just a battle and some mini puzzle. i'm not playing it again now, but i still want to know the ending. at least yeah, this is a free game. i know that. haha:D sorry for my bad english by the way

Great fun. Played twice so far and now cannot decide whether to play a third time aiming for a perfect score and all the achievements or onto number 2. The best game I have played on a tablet for a very long time...

I have played this 2 years ago and it is awesome. The unique perspective and the imaginative story can actually produce a substantial novel. That being said, I wish the 3rd one will be even better and perhaps non-linear even.

Interesting setting and plot. Game mechanics are more fun than a typical interactive story. Unfortunately I did not like the second one in the series.

I really enjoyed this! A tense narrative adventure with optional puzzle and combat minigames. I'll be checking out the sequels.

Interesting story with different pathways based on choices you make. I also like the minigames that help speed hand-eye coordination.

The story arent gripping, gamer can skip it but still can play the game. A good game must have the gripping story that gamer need to read it, if they dont, they cant play the game

I started playing this game a long while ago, and when I found it again I was so happy! the game is just as fun and engaging as I remember. I just downloaded the second part and I'm so excited for part three! keep up the great work, this is obviously a labor of love.

Choose-your-own-adventure with card-fighting and match-3 mini-games. A bit short, but I see there's a sequell....

This game is well written, has likeable characters, and high replay value. I enjoyed the inclusion of the minigames to break up the text and offer a different element to the CYOA genre. (For anyone who dislikes or has trouble with the minigames, you can chose to skip them in your settings.) I would highly recommend this game and look forward to playing the second game.

This game story is by far the best out there. The story and how it plays out is unique. The way the graphics appear in a sort of water color way add to the story instead of distracting from it. The controls are easy and the way they've used mini games to tie into the main game is fun and actually matters and alters your game slightly. It requires no permissions at least on my phone and has very little ads. Shockingly little amount of ads. It's addictive for sure and everyone should check it out. It's nice to have such a great game that lets us make so many different choices too.

This is a very bad game. While some parts of it are OK, like the mini games, but they quickly become redundant. Has allot of misspelled words and improper sentences. Penalizes you for choices it makes you take. And overall has so many design flaws that the few things it did right did not make a difference. Bad!

I love this game. I used to play the 'choose your own adventure' books as a kid and this brings back happy memories. I think the eighth continent is better written than the old books though. One thing I find frustrating is not knowing how to get all the achievements. I've played over and over and there are still some I can't get. I wish there was a walkthrough for achievements. I'm currently playing yet again and trying to do a walkthrough at the same time so I can see where I'm missing things. I could do with more 'save' slots - one for each chapter would be nice. Great app though. Can't wait for part 3.

I've just downloaded it a day ago and I'm on chapter 3. I love the mystery, the ambient music and that the app mixes a visual novel with game elements. Sorry just saw your reply...I'm so sorry. Not sure if you've had to fix them in all this time. I promise to check back in a few days. So let me know if you still need a list of those typos.
