The Fog Knows Your Name

Step into the fog to confront your terror: the evil that hides within.

The Fog Knows Your Name is a 300,000 word interactive teen horror novel by Clio Yun-su Davis, where your choices control the story. It's entirely text-based, without graphics or sound effects, and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

It's senior year of high school. Your classmate Rex Keller was found dead six months ago, and you were the last person to see him alive. Half the town thinks you murdered him, including his sister, Ennis. The other half believes it was the fog.

In your town, ever since anyone can remember, people die when the fog rolls in. No one knows exactly how or why. Some say the land didn't want the colonizers, so it sends the fog as an agent of vengeance. Some say the Devil himself lurks in the fog, collecting souls. Others believe the fog simply drives people mad, causing them to enact violence onto each other and onto themselves.

There is one element of the tale that remains the same in every telling: those who perish in the fog are guilty of wronging another without confessing to it. Those who admit to causing harm can walk in the fog untouched. The liars die.

Their ghosts haunt the town. They're haunting you, they're haunting Ennis Keller, and they're haunting your friends at school. If you and your friends can't unravel the fog's mysteries in time, those ghosts are going to kill you, one way or another.

• Play as female, male, or non-binary; gay, straight, bi, ace, aromantic, or poly.
• Stop the thing in the fog and exorcise the ghosts who haunt your town.
• Enter the fog and die.
• Solve murders. The clues are just waiting in the fog.
• Entangle yourself in romances with your friends and enemies.
• Protect the town that despises you or take vengeance against them.

When the dead speak, will you give them what they want or put an end to them? Clear the past, clear your name, clear the fog.

Excellent writing and fun characters it's easy to care about. The format is perfect for engaging for a few minutes at a time, which is great for my schedule and attention span.

the game is very well writen and interesting, but it's very frustrating that stats raising and tests are quite unintuitive.

I loved this game and wish there was more like it! The haunting, ghost, paranormal this stuff is my jam. Completely recommend it!

This is one of the better interactive fiction games i've played, especially after you get past all the beginning exposition. the ending (i got) was satisfying and left me wanting more, and there's high replayabilty with this. i felt attached to the characters and truly torn at some of the choices I had to make. It was worth it to get the full version.

Very well written and a compelling story. Sometimes I found it frustrating that the options didn't seem to play out the way I expected (e.g. I choose to control my emotion, but then the scene plays out that I try to stay calm but lose my cool anyway). I think the writer was going for realism, but it also sometimes made my choices feel pointless. Overall, really good game though!

A lot of replayability! There are so many different ways to go about things and a lot of mutually-exclusive choices. The stat management difficulty is higher than in some games like this, in that you'll fail a lot if you don't focus and strategize enough, but failures are rarely (if ever?) lethal and it doesn't feel like you're forced to min-max at a cost to story experience.

I actually purchased this book. The author did a great job with the world building: the characters are all unique and relatable. The plot has lots of twists and turns. However, the stat checks in game are hard to meet and often it is not immediately clear what stats are tied to what choice. This was a tough game to win and the middle of the story while investigating was not very exciting. I just wish the stat checks weren't so difficult, and that the bad ending could have a redo last choice.

There aren't many stories that stay with me when I finish them, but this game is definitely one of them. My only complaint is how some of the dialogue choices have a tone that doesn't match the resulting conversation. A "reset chapter" option would also be nice, because at one point I accidentally clicked a choice before I had finished reading the chapter and couldn't go back. Overall, the story is absolutely worth the $6, and I can't wait to play again to see what the other endings are.

The writing was amazing! I was sucked into it for a good few hours. Characters developed well & were distinct. Great pacing and suspence! Despite what others have said about options not contributing to the story's outcome, I do question some of the options that made holes but I think they just add to your stats. The stats were done really well too. I kept checking them to make sure they're high enough for the options I was going to take. Yes there is a perfect ending. Played 3 times to get it.

Fantastic story, one of the best CoG for sure. The main complaint I do have, and I'm sure this isn't the first time it's been said, but this game desperately needs a save point. I'd love to replay a choice I just made to see the different endings to all the paths. But it isn't worth starting the game from scratch for every little branching path. But other than that, great work

Real good story and fun to play! All the options and paths keep you replaying to achieve new endings and unlock new achievements. Balancing everything out and learning how to increase my traits took a bit for me to get used to, but ultimately helped me out in the end when I got the hang of things. I'll definitely consider buying some of your other games, this happens to be a genre of games that I'm real into!

Awesome game! I'm usually not a huge fan of mystery, and sometimes supernatural elements can feel cheap or cheesy. However, none of that is the case for The Fog Knows Your Name. I couldn't stop playing it. The characters are really well done and fleshed out. The setting is unique and the story is fresh. Good playthrough length as well. I'd recommend it any day (and have to friends).

Wow! What an exceptional game. Incredible, haunting, exciting and intriguing story. Literally made hairs stick up on my neck. It was as if I was actually there in the story. So many of these text only games have that ability but this one in particular. It is like reading a proper book. You can see everything, feel everything and Imagine how the characters look. An exceptionally written game book. Also I can see so many playthroughs all with different, yet extraordinary endings.

I have read a lot from this dev. The stories are always great, they keep me hooked. Tons of choices, although idk if the choices really make a difference. Anyways, the main thing I don't like are the high prices. You can read a few chapters to see if you want to buy the rest, which is fine, but $5.99 for these games are a bit high. I would definitely read more and support the cause if they were priced more like $2.99 or so. Otherwise great writing devs!!

I loved this game so much! First off, I really appreciate the way they handle lgbt+ issues. You get can be trans/nb, any sexuality you want (including ace/aro), and polyamorous, and there's NPC representation as well. When it comes to the gameplay itself I think it was extremely well done. The perfect mix of mystery, strategy, and character-driven narratives makes it extremely satisfying to play, and even more satisfying when things turn out the way you want them to. One of the best I've played.

One of the best choice games i have ever played,it's characters play off each other very well, its story is captivating and fun to read, theirs an intense yet mysterious vibe to the whole thing, i really want a sequel becuase i will pay for more of this, but that good ending is so perfect I wouldn't mind if they just left it off here. Go buy it, its so worth the price.

not enough indication of stats or how to manage using them in game. feels almost like nothing i choose matters, my character is just going to fail their whole way thru no matter what i do differently. i find it way too frustrating to enjoy & as a result ive never bothered to finish this one. tbh, baring an unlikely update of the game mechanics, I'd return & refund this one if given the choice. the writing is good but it's way too frustrating & annoying to play thru.

I love the story and I would love to keep playing but I have to say it really doesn't feel like your stats help at all. I came into the game optimistic that the more negative reviews were wrong, but as I progressed things I felt like I should have been able to do were not possible. It grew a little frustrating for me because the story seems amazing and fun and I want to keep reading! But it kind of takes me out of the game when the choices I want all flop even though I play my strengths.

Beautiful writing! Lovely characters! The length was absolutely perfect and I'm in love with it - I love how many options there were to reach the end. I had to restart the game once or twice because the game accidentally took me scrolling as a sign to pick an option, but otherwise the price was definitely worth the solid 2-3 hours I took with this game

One of the better choice of games I've played, and I've played many. Genuinely creepy at times, and the character and relationships are well fleshed out. Kept my interested from the start. Also, regarding the trolls, there is absolutely no racist, sexist or lgbt+phobic content promoted in this game, and is actually quite inclusive. Would definitely recommend!

Your stats are seemingly meaningless, and the ending absolutely stinks. The story is fantastic with so much potential, but your stats NEVER help you, and at the very end, you're left with limited choices, that have nothing to do with your stats, and any choice you make is pointless. For something from Choice of Games, that's pretty worthless. I'd advise choosing a different game. Waste of four bucks.

The. Best. Game. Ever! I just spend almost a day just keep replying the game over and over, trying to get all the achievements and try to get all the paths and oh my god i didn't regret it one bit. Each choices led to different outcome. It deliciously well written and the characters of the story is ah-mazing! Wish it has sequel cus I sure want to know what will happen to MC after the fog let them go. Anyway, amazing story will definitely look out for more from the author
