The Hill

The developer really failed awhile ago with weeks where we couldn't get any news from the app. Now the app is just worse. It used to be easier to find articles I wanted to read. Now it's just ugly and there's so little info on rl each screen. The story panes are just too big on a smaller phone. I rarely want to even open it to look at what's there and when I do I rarely open more than one article before closing the app.

I gave the new version 1 star after it first came out and I would give it a half star even now if it was an option. The new version is a major degrade in usability and aesthetic quality. I loved the volume of easily accessible news in the prior version. The new version increases the invasiveness of ads while greatly reducing easy access to news. Less than a quarter of the news originally available can be found now. Very disappointing.

Initially I left a bad review. After using this for a few more days, it's even more annoying. Why were tabs eliminated? The fonts are all different size all over the place. They don't have author names on articles. The articles don't populate in any discernable order, it's a mix of new and old making it hard to know what you've missed. The articles don't even fully load on the first try half the time. The authors need to just copy the wall street journal's app.

This used to be my go-to app every morning with my coffee. The last update makes it inconvenient to use with my tablet as it only displays upright and won't flip sideways while sitting on table. It no longer offers preview of article under the title and worst of all, I cannot tell what is news and what is opinion! Very disappointing. If I wanted someone's opinion mascarading as news I'd watch Fox or CNN. Now I have to delete this app as it is no longer of any use to me.

The reporting from The Hill is a favorite of mine, but the new app is an obstacle to getting to that content. Similar to other reviews, I only get the first two paragraphs of an article. I'm going to uninstall the app and hope The Hill doesn't change the web site to match.

Most articles only load the first two paragraphs. You have to go back to the article two or three times to get it to render properly. Appears to be held up by auto-play video ads. You read that right - AUTO PLAY VIDEO ADS. Fail.

It was so much easier to quickly catch up on news and policy in the previous version. Now scrolling is longer, stories don't load, and navigating to "policy," "Opinion," and other sections require extra steps where before all you had to do was swipe left or right.

Updated app is a downgrade. Navigability and accessibility were sacrificed for a slick looking but less functional UI. I used to use the Hill as my go to app for following current news. Now I have to doom scroll endlessly to see anything. I guess I'll be using the Hill much less going forward.

New version takes FOREVER to load, is poorly structured and less intuitive than the version it replaced. I'll get my news headlines elsewhere unless I hear they've fired the new app design team and reverted to the older, better structure.

New version only displays 2 paragraphs of each story. It's been a week and still no change. Every story I open only shows 2 paragraphs and maybe a picture up tip, then blank white space below paragraph #2. I have deleted and reinstalled with the same issue.

The old app had minor issues...The new app is TRASH. Stories do not load past 1st 2 paragraghs (where first ad spot would be), and then endless scroll of blank white screen. Clearing cache doesnt help. Ive even uninstalled/reinstall. LOVE how the Hill presents Washington news, but their tech team is meh.

App stopped working this week. Told me to upgrade to restore functionality, but there is no upgrade in the app store. Pity. I used this app a lot, but now its just taking up memory. Going to remove it. 4/18/22 They have now fixed two major bugs and its back up and running

This new version stinks. It's harder to navigate (getting to the Sunday talk show stories is no longer simple, for example) and the text flickers as you scroll down a story.

Latest update is pretty much a disappointment. While aesthetically pleasing, all the articles seem to cut off after two paragraphs. Please fix this.

Stories do not fully load. Stories will load headline, picture and about 2 paragraphs, then it's blank. Sometimes full story will load. Refreshing screen does not help. Android user.

The app does not display the entire news article. It only shows two paragraphs. Is this a glitch or your new format, two paragraphs of news?

New 'updated' app allows you to read the first paragraph and then blank, just downloaded after a few weeks waiting for the 'update' to become available ... needn't have bothered cause its nonfunctional

I am not sure what people are complaining about. I find the app very easy to navigate and well laid out. I use Android's Private DNS, so I see no ads.

In the new app there is no way to scroll every post made in chronological order... even using the Latest News feature. The old app was better.

With every update it somehow gets worse? I've tried to hang on because it's an easy and not too biased news source, but now the app is barely usable.

Why in the world they downgrade this app is incomprehensible to me. Poor navigation and no more than 2 paragraphs are visible for the lion's share of the content Long wait for nothjngburger.

Like old layout better. Like picking topics across vs push of data and scrolling through loads of articles.

I like the new app. An update was way over due. A plus would be a paid subscription option to eliminate ads

This app crashes so often now, I can't even read a single story to the end. I uninstalled this poorly written app.

Articles are great, but I've had issues with the new app update (updated April 2022). Most of the time only the first section of the article appears, the rest is blank. There are also less categories and it is more difficult to get a variety of news I previously enjoyed on the earlier platform. The search function also has issues & brings up articles from years ago instead of more recent pieces.

The new app is very slick, but, it takes so long to load I frequently swipe away to a quicker news source.

Love the Hill, app not so much. Cluttered w/ads, no option to pay to remove. Better off using a mobile browser w/ an ad blocker, not ideal, but a better bet until they sort out this very flawed app. That said while the website is good, it has its share of annoying issues as well. Pointless pop-ups, cluttered. Keep it simple.

News feed is showing I need to update the app, but no update is available. Interesting enough concept, but the end result is a lack of updated news (everything is now a few days old) and no ability to change it. Needs improvement. Otherwise, would be 4/5 stars.
