It's just a simplified view of the web app content. While friendliness with mobile screens is a plus, it misses a lot of features that modern news reader apps offer to enrich the reading experience. I was considering a subscription but without a high quality mobile app I might not be able to make the most out of the membership investment.
A very pathatic app for a news magazine. One expects it to open and see the latest news items and articles. Whereas what one sees is old items being displayed and at times as old as a few months old appearing on top as a fresh article. Reply: I have a screen shot that I can share. I am getting 2 news item in Sweden section, (1) Winners or losers? Here's what the low Swedish krona means for you. Dated: 6th August 2019. (2) Why the shocking cold of winter bathing is a Nordic favourite Dated: 14th October. I can go on with my review of the app, but you seem to be in a defensive mode. By the way, I am a paid member.
It's as buggy as the website. I have been trying to renew my membership for days. All I get here and on website is a blank screen. No option to renew. I have written to support only to hear crickets. It's bad enough that it randomly signs me out even though I ask to remain logged in. But this new bug is just ridiculous.
Update We paid for the subscription and still do not have members access. Dev support or Care can you rectify this issue so I can access? Hmm 🤔 paid subscription but the request to pay window keeps popping up. Looks like signing up via Google and Google Pay does not synch up with the App in the backend Really need it to work
the content is useful and interesting. The app needs improving - for instance, I keep getting notifications for countries other than the one i have asked for notifications about
Total pain. Constantly telling you to upgrade despite being logged in to your account. Once it does that you have to close it down. There are better news sources. I won't be renewing
My best source of local news since i don't speak the language yet! that's being said i wish I could save articles or favorite them in a place or something for future reference, also a search functionality would be a good addition
It is a useful news site if you don't know the local language. I have an issue, as I am always deseleting notifications, and I keep receiving them. When I go back to check the settings, they have been automatically reelected.
Whenever i click the news it opens with a blank page and how many I refresh it doesn't open. Sometimes when i do open in new tab it works sometimes it doesn't. When i press back then the app exits and doesn't come in the front page from where i have started. It's sometimes frustrating
Content great, app hopeless. It loses login details when you clear any internet browser on the (android) device. Before deleting it I had to login almost every time - so there is no advantage over the browser version. The Local newspaper itself is, however, very good.
Nice. Really, really nice. All the headlines you never hear from an English news-set fixated upon internal politics, football or celebrities. It works, it's fast, it's non-political, it's ad-free. Brilliant, such a tonic, thank you SO MUCH for this software.
it's not an app, it's just a browser that opens that one page. The "app" constantly forgets you, your login details, your membership status. So, really, it's not worth installing. I don't see any point to this app at all.
So far 'The Local' offers more than I dared hope for. I wanted to know current news in other European countries, but also to know more about their culture, their geography and history. It is very early days, I have only just started to subscribe, however so far it seems to offer all I wanted. In this respect it has no rivals. I hope it goes from strength to strength.
The developer has responded and so far the problem had been fixed. Thank you. I have checked my account and it says I am logged in and paid up to 2023. But I cannot access articles. I have logged out and logged back in. Same problem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and logged back in. Same problem. I used to use this app while waiting for kids and appts. Pointless now. Can I get my money back please. Will pay for the 5 months I used already.
The Local is the absolute best for any English speaking person living in a Europe. And even if you speak the local language, the Local simplifies and brings important targeted critical information to you in a well written and friendly manner. Links to relevant government information which are impossible to find without hours of work. I can't emphasize more how excellent The Local is. Get it today, you'll thank me for a long time to come.
I have a subscription but I haven't been able to use the app for quite some time now because it keeps trying to create an account using Google, which is always in progress and never completes. I am cancelling my subscription now
I paid for a subscription via Google on The Local website but can't gain access to any content through either the website or the app. It just wants me to pay again. It would appear that I am not alone in this, looking through the reviews. Beware!
Brought the subscription. Totally worth it, to the point appropriate news. Good articles answering the right questions. I like the word of the day feature.
Good articles but having no (obvious?) search feature limits practical use. One article link leads to the wrong story and as far as I can tell, there's no search or category feature to find what I'm looking for.
It used to be a good app. Now they made the app just like a website. Also I cannot change my country preferences although I change and save my settings.
Very informative and timely with sharing articles but app itself misses option of saving articles for later read unfortunately.
A must-have app for people moving to a European country that they don't speak the language of, who wish to stay updated about its news.
Used to love the old app but since a recent update, all it does is load the articles in your default browser. I don't need an app to do that. Please display articles within the app it's self again.
Paywall has ruined it. No free news. I get they need money, but the limit of free news is extremely minimal. Also, the app doesn't correctly filter news. Norway isn't on my list of countries, yet I get all the Norway articles.
Used to be good, but when I took out paid subscription I kept getting the subscription screen over every story. Customer service (Kirsten) was hopeless. Still not sorted and am cancelling subscription
Great news (I'm a subscriber!), but I'm sad that the latest release has removed the sharing menu. Please bring that back and I'll update my rating to 5-stars. (I'm happy with the return of the Share button!!)
As news source for English readers, I would give it 5 stars but app could be a little better. 1) A push notification for every new article would be a nice option to have. 2) support for commenting from the app
App doesn't open. Just a blank white screen. Only way out is to close it. Tried reinstalling without success.
I paid for the subscription for two years. The app is bad and hasn't changed in my time using it. The local features good articles. In my personal view (you can disagree) a good mobile app should be accessible at this price point. Two years of financial support through subscription and many similar complaints (look at the reviews here) didn't change things. Now, seemingly all website articles hide behind a adblocker wall. Bye bye...
