The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth

Great with friends and lots of fun. However very annoyign when NPCs send you on quests that lead you to think you will get good loot or big progression, but turn out to be just lore points (which dont do anything?). Also many levels have vague objectives or you just complete it in time, just to discover you have to run the whole way back.

The board game is fun, but it is far too dependent on the app and if the app dies then $90+ game is useless. The problem tgst the app has and also having to pay for DLC after spending $90+ for the games and expansions is a really big turn off. The app should be an extra to enhance the game but not a mandatory to playing the game. Fantasy Flight needs to rethink their board games.

The game is fun. However the save feature is almost useless in the middle of a game, as there is no way to view where enemies and characters were or note character status for later. Even just a "notes" section would be great. a BIG issue with the app:there is no go back or cancel if you hit the wrong button. You NEED to be able to undo a button push. You also cannot review an initial placement of some elements. If you miss it, you can never check. Still fun, but the app needs some improvement.

In addition to the below, the app won't install at all on pixel 6. I loaded the app to my phone for game day, and it worked as described. However the screen is too small, and we made some rules mistakes. The ability to backup or undo actions in a single phase would be invaluable for misclicks or rules mistakes (eg, I moved the wrong enemy). I tried to transfer to my tablet instead of my phone, but there's no way to transfer a saved game, which is extremely disappointing as well.

App works fine, game is too hard for small groups. The gameplay flow works well, and has some nice design, it just needs balance. I'm not always going to have 5 players, but it seems like the game difficulty is rated for that. Successes seem to account for 1/3 of the cards in a deck, but usually one success is not enough to complete most skill tests, and often you don't draw any successes.

I had an glitch on my device with one aspect of one of the newer missions. I filled out a form on the fantasy flight website. Within 24 hours, not only did the developers respond but had programmed a new patch for the software! The game itself is fantastic; it's basically LoTR in a box. It provides great tactical adventures without being too fiddly (slowing down the game), and the components look fantastic. Before giving a bad review I would encourage anyone to contact FFG first.

Desperately needs an undo or back button. My group played and on our second game were encountering the boss. One player accidentally moved us to the shadow phase before two players got to take a turn, but since there was no way to go back the game progressed and we lost because one of the other players that had already gone had died. However if you complete the goal before the shadow phase you can still win, so the lack of a back button ruined the game for us.

Great app, love it! However, found a few bugs on Galaxy S8: (1) it is difficult to tap the tokens even while being zoomed. I have to tap several times until the token action triggers. Ends up working but is a bit annoying. (2) on game reload, the threat bar had the event bubble display "XY" in it, except the bar was already past it.

This app needs a lot of work. You can't go back or undo something if you accidentally press the wrong button. The story is lacking a bit especially the end of chapters and end game. In fact if you go the long way, end chapter is very easy and uneventful. The camera likes to move randomly away when a new map piece is being placed....In most cases away from the board and new map piece. It would be great if they showed the map numbers needed for each chapter before it starts just not any order.

Amazing app that goes with one of the best board games I have ever played. Tons of replayability. Can't wait to start my second campaign.

Very well designed app. But you need to add a rewind/back button for when you click past something too fast or make a mistake and need to redo

This is unacceptable the app does not even use my whole phone screen it has black bars on the side. The older mansions of madness used my full phone screen. Im usings a lg v60 This has to be fixed.

RAD. I'm new to "app-required" games. I've used apps automating tedium normally handled by endless card decks. (e.g., Mage Knight/Gloomhaven) Wasn't sure I'd enjoy this, esp because I code all day; Board games help me get away from screens & RMI. But the amount of behind-the-scenes task mgmt & randomly-generated levels/story elements is impressive and makes for smooth gameplay & significant replayability. I experienced sev crashes, maybe from corrupt save data. New save has not crashed once

A wonderful idea, but not well-presented to the players. Good atmospere gets lost due to clumsy controls and lack of clarity. Oh, and I finished 3 adventures completely by simply not clicking the next turn icon (I guess another fix or patch needed). Now, where is that Angmarillion I wanted to write..?

Great app that is necessary for the board game. The sound and audio are excellent and enhance the gameplay. My only wish would be that there was a log in feature that would make it easy to sync between devices (phone, tablet, etc.).

Excellent game, but I bought the dlc campaign today and am unable to use it. Played through and completed first scenario, then I see a black screen and there is no way to progress. Very disappointing to encounter a game breaking bug that makes purchase unplayable.

I see no dev responses to bug reports in the reviews, so I doubt they read these, but they should. The game, itself, is really fun with a few house rules. Game balance for 4-5 players is insanely difficult, 2-3 is great. An "Undo" button is a critically missing feature. You really don't get your money's worth out of an $80 campaign with so few variety of monsters & heroes (but they're limited to Tolkien cannon), and replayability is meh with only one campaign. Need more voiceovers for immersion!

I was really enjoying the app until yesterday where I downloaded the latest update. When I tried to continue my saved game (almost complete 1st campaign) it was asking for the latest expansion (Dwellers in Darkness) to proceed. Not having it yet, I thought to unistall the app and reinstall it in hopes of avoiding this error. In my total disappointment I totally lost the saved game. I only got a previous saved game from a test run. I searched all my configurations and everything was correct.

This app was unavailable to use on Android for over 2 weeks. This is unacceptable considering you need the app to play the game. I understand issues arise, but if something like an app is necessary to play a game you paid for, then fantasy flight games needs to allocate more resources to ensure this never happens again. On top of that there was ZERO communication from the publisher on social media. The only thing we got was a reply on a single forum about the issue. Do better, FFG.

I like the random DM option. However, the app really, really needs a 'back-up to previous step' option. I've made mistakes hitting the wrong thing multiple times and ruins the whole game for my group when there is no way to correct the mistake.

Other then the text been ever so small, it's pretty clear and makes gameplay idiot proof.

Great game. App desperately needs to save automatically. There are times I get a call or use another app and the LOTR app resets itself and I lose the progress I just made. It would be great if the map could rotate more

An undo feature would be nice for when you accidentally hit the wrong button. Also, there's a definite bug - when I've failed a scenario, I've always gotten 6 XP instead of the 3 I'm supposed to get.

The App is great!........ Except 1 big thing. You can't read the Txt bc it's so small and you can tie you dlc to you account. This is huge. If I can't read a story based game... What is the point of having a story? Please for the love of God add an option to increase story and instructions Txt so I don't have to go Sherlock Holmes in guessing what the text says!!

Its a very slow game. I thought it was just us players but it was deifinatly not there are too many random obstacles that just keep slowing the game down. A good example is the progression clues. There is no room for home rules either with tge online game master. The whole game wouldve been much better if it was all online or all a board game.

Awesome companion app for the board game!!! We're all having a blast with this. We use the app on Steam and find that very stable and usable. Tried once and had no issues on Android, but prefer having it on a big screen.

4 missions in, I misclicked a button which lost me the mission and changed the story of my game for the rest of the canpaign. A simple "undo" button would go a long way. I understand why they wouldn't have it, but it's aggravating for misclicks like this.

Lost my progress because no one though that about updating the app to work on Android 12. This is the problem with relying on an app for a board game. As of the time of working this review (almost a month after the launch of Android 12) it still does not work. I would not buy this board game.

Really enjoyed my first game. Only gave it four stars due to not being able to change the text size in app. The text is just a touch too small and I was struggling to read it during gameplay.
