The Lord of the Rings Project

The Lord of the Rings Project is the official Android app of LotrProject.com, an indispensable and celebrated resource dedicated to the wonderful world created by J.R.R. Tolkien. It guides you through Middle-earth with interactive high resolution maps, timelines, a 900+ character family tree and encyclopedic information about characters and places. The section called Today in Middle-earth will also let you know exactly what happened on each day in Middle-earth history. The app is designed to allow you to easily follow along when reading Tolkien's works, especially the Hobbit, the Lord of the Rings and the Silmarillion. It is regularly updated with new features and information and aims to become the ultimate resource and companion for Tolkien fans.
By buying the app you will not only get a unique experience of Middle-earth on your Android device, you will also help support the project. Updating and developing LotrProject takes many hours of work each month and hosting the website costs a lot of money. Your help to keep the site up and running without advertisements is greatly appreciated.FEATURES

Lord of the Rings Project, commonly shortened LotrProject, is a creative web project dedicated to the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. It is perhaps most known for the extensive and ever updating genealogy, the historical timeline of Middle-Earth, the interactive maps and the statistics of the population of Middle-Earth.

LotrProject was published in January 2012 by Emil Johansson with the genealogy as the only feature. To much surprise it gained a lot of attention, with mentions in the Guardian, TIME Magazine and Wired, which spurred the development of the site. Since then the project has expanded to become a creative outlet for Emil and now features several interactive Tolkien related projects.

It is a very good app. With more info in one place than anywhere else I know, along with a wonderful interactive map of beleriand and middle earth. But it needs updating and holes filled in. The last update was 2 years ago, so bio's that are being "worked on" I have no confidence actually are. I paid for this app, so I would like to see them finishing the app, and the map had some bugs too. For example, the bio for Morgoth has no info. The map doesn't always zoom properly.

For the hobbiton capital Delwing should be Delving. Just thought I'd let you know as you want to seek an authentic database and I.share your passion for this amazing piece of literature and its universe. Keep up the great work.

This is an incredible app. It has everything a Tolkien fan needs, except his own ring. The app contains a map of Middle Earth and Beleriand, news, Family Trees, Timelines, Statistics, Quotes and so much more. Please continue to update and develop this app! I would also like to mention that this app has an excellent development team, who are always open to suggestions and criticism's. I thank them for this great app!

The app is very informative to every character. The maps are very accurate and are easy to read. I would suggest this app for all Tolkien fans, from die hards to simple lotr fans. Also may I suggest adding characters from the Dagor Dagorath? I know it was never fully explained or officially released but it would make this a more complete project. One of the main ones that should be added would be Gilthrang the Traitor. Again though this is an excellent app.

I am aware it is a work in progress but you need to make the maps not so weird just make something like it and not have 50 of them and you need to add frodowaith haradrim. Also you need to get a lot of the important characters done first before lower people I've noticed some people of great importance are not in it yet but some lower characters are in it but overall good job

Wonderful application!! If you love J.R.R.T, you're highly unlikely to miss out on this app. This is also one of the very few apps out there that actually provides some decent and comprehensive information regarding J.R.R.Tolkien's middle earth ideology. Some tweaks would highly improve the ease of use though. It'd be better if you nicely segregate the names of elves in their respective clans rather than having one huge list of names in alphabetical order (would also hold good for other races as well). A lot of information regarding a lot of characters is missing. You might want to update them all soon. Other than that, the interface is wonderful and intuitive. I haven't had any issue whatsoever using this application. CHEERS!!

This has helped so much rereading all the books! I decided to use my ereader to read them and found skipping back and forth to look at the maps very frustrating and now I don't have that problem, and also get to learn more of the genealogy. Fascinating stuff, thank you very much :)

This is the best LOTR info app on the app store. Minimal bugs (I've only crashed once) and it was fixed by closing the app and reopening it. If one could give 100 stars I would.

I am very unimpressed with this app. It is all for asthaetic. At some point one must face the fact that it offers a horribly dry and underdeveloped form of the legendarium. The quotes menu stops short of many of the best quotes of Tolkien. The maps are interesting, but show nothing more than what has already been shown in the books themselves. The statistics are interesting but irrelevant. I'll admit the statistics do actually provide some new and interesting information that can help exegete the story. My least favorite part of the entire app is the character bio section. They provide maybe a half paragraph of information about any given character. Important characters, like Melkor himself!, have nothing written in their bio which leads to my final and most condemning criticism. It is a largely unfinished app. Much of the info in the Tolkien legendarium is completely left out, and if included, is only touched on minorly. There are free sources that are worlds better than this source. Try the Encyclopedia of Arda for a wonderful, extensive, and FREE source. This app would be nice and cute to have, but that is the extent of its benefit. It is certainly not worth any sort of money. I highly recommend the Encyclopedia of Arda again. It is canonical and extensive.

Seems to be living: new features are being added, including a sorely missed map of Beleriand... all I want now is searchable maps so I can find those obscure placed in the lost tales... oh, look at that: I can search the maps: excellent!

It won't load map content even though I am contacted to the internet. Have tried multiple times. If this gets fixed I would gladly rate 5 stars.

Cannot thank the Dev enough. Since I'm rereading the Silmarillion this app has helped make sense of all the information inside. Such a great companion to have while reading. Thank you!

I love the maps; but several statistic graphs such as longevity and life span show no bars. A graph with no data is as useful as a dwarf with no beard.

Looks good. Shame no update otherwise I would have kept it.

Dak. G. Nov 20, 2017

Great. Love the concept of having all the information of the Tolkeins works in an easy and convenient way but there is still A LOT of information missing. Please update!!!

It's a great app, but there's a problem. The links under news are not clickable.

Cur. B. Dec 15, 2014

Anything and everything is here, maps, family trees, events, time lines. Exhaustive but easy to navigate, outstanding app for all us LOTR nerds, great job!

Wonderful interactive map. The rest is good, but not critical. It just helps having a map to follow the story

Sag. B. Jul 7, 2017

I love this app. It's very useful and provides an interactive reference while reading through the books. I was wondering if you could implement offline views for the maps?

Seb. M. Aug 28, 2015

The concept an information already in the app is great, but it has not been updated since last year. Disappointed. :(

Mil. M. Oct 31, 2017

Great app, great idea, would like to see the update in the future, so it could be even better.

Ann. P. Feb 8, 2016

My grandfather's name is Emil Johnson! What would be even stranger is if you were a chemist because I am a chemist and I love the Lord of the Rings! Are you Swedish ?

And. G. Feb 8, 2017

Great app, but could do with more offline support and a better map UI.

Mir. D. Jul 25, 2015

I'd say this is a must app for any Tolkien fans! :D

Lou. W. Feb 8, 2017

This is my favorite companion for reading any of Tolkien. Well Done!
