The Low-Glycal Diet™ by BioFit

What’s the best way to lose weight? Should you reduce the total number of calories in your diet or lower the total glycemic load? There is scientific evidence to support both approaches, so which one should you follow? Well, it turns out that both are important!
Everyone knows that calories are important, but not everyone knows that when you eat those calories you can do three things with them: burn them for energy; store them as fat; or use them to build lean body mass.

What you do with those calories is determined by hormones in your body, the most important being insulin. Your insulin level is determined not only by the number of calories you eat, but also by the type of calories you eat.

This is why what you eat (glycemic load) is as important as how much you eat (calories)!

The Low-Glycal Diet™ app by BioFit uses both glycemic load and calories to calculate the number of “glycals” in a meal, which is a better predictor of how fattening that meal will be.

The “glycal” is calculated from a formula developed by Dr. Jeffrey S. Dunham, M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H., medical director of BioFit Medical Group and graduate of Harvard Medical School, and is based on the latest medical research.

The total number of glycals in a meal equals the total number of calories in a meal that will be stored as fat.

The Low-Glycal Diet™ app by BioFit contains over 1000 easy-to-find foods which are color coded as green (low-glycal), yellow (medium-glycal), or red (high-glycal) if eaten alone.

You assemble a meal by choosing the individual foods in that meal. The app then calculates the total number of glycals in that meal and gives you a green, yellow or red result.

The number of glycals will change depending on how you pair foods together. For example, eating two fried eggs (a green food) with two slices of cheddar cheese (a green food) will give you a green meal, but eating two fried eggs with two slices of dry whole wheat toast (a green food) will give you a red meal.

The ranges of green, yellow and red also change depending on when you have the meal, since eating carbohydrates after 6PM can be more fattening than eating them in earlier in the day.

You never have to be hungry on The Low-Glycal Diet™ by BioFit. You can have all the green meals you want in a day, as long as they are separated by two hours. You’re allowed one yellow meal a day and one red meal a week.

The fat loss is almost effortless, so start losing fat today!

The Pro version isn't available for Android and the regular Android version doesn't work. The text for food entries overlap each other and make it almost impossible to select a food. If you happen to turn your phone sideways, it erases everything you've done. Simply awful. Biofit doesn't respond to any requests to upgrade it.

Says I have to upgrade and pay to save meals, but there's nothing in the Google Play Store that will let me do that. Also, add based is better. More people who really need this app the most would upgrade to use the advanced features.

I'm wondering why the android app isn't the same as the apple app? There is a features that are not on the Android version. I sent a question to biofit but no response

Can't use with Android

The list of ingredients is so small it makes this app almost useless. Does give you some idea of what you should and shouldn't eat but that's it. Increase database by 10 times and you'll have a useful app. Also allow size entry. I would pay for that.

App has become completely unusable. Screen resets when I turn it. Screen resets when it turns off it does not resume where I left off. I would happily pay for the pro version I have been reading about on iOS. I still use this about everyday but it is frustrating to use when i enter 5-6 ingredients for my meal and then it resets because my screen rotated.

A great idea for a much-needed app but OMG it would take me literally hours to enter all the foods to go from one screen back to the next back to the very top of the listings scroll down to where you left off forget it way too much trouble but it was a good try anywaybut it was a good try anyway

The app never works there is no way to change your information it will not save it and when you put in and email it keeps telling you that the email is already taken. It is frustrating to work with this app and there are not enough to foods on it

It's great, tells me the value quickly so I can choose the right food to eat😊

Great calculator but even with yellow meals I get hungry after an hour. I'd like ability to calculate how many glycals you can have to maintain weight.

I had the pro version when I had an iPhone and I loved it. I switched to Android and am not able to access the pro version I PAID for. The Android app needs the pro version to be made available, I'm really irritated and disappointed about this. Why have it for one but not the other? Please change this soon.

Just took me 30 days to figure out that the search was at the bottom of the menu list? But otherwise a good interface. Also wish it had autocalc as an option.

Excellent concept. Did low glycemic diets before without the expected results. This fills in missing information.

Adi. c. Aug 1, 2015

It's very tough to follow.

Pro tracker is not on Android. Food list is basic at best. Needs to be more like MyFitnessPal.

Kir. C. May 24, 2015

The food lists are all jumbled. The search option is not available.... please fix. This app is very helpful just needs a little updating.

App looks great but you can't slide down to read the full information. What a waste of time. Will uninstall

Easy to use, practical and something that will actually be used on a daily basis. Be sure to read the help, about, FAQ's and info tabs.

HTC one m8 with lollipop. Screens do not scroll so I can not use the app. Works great on my iPad. Hopefully a fix will come soon.
