The Monash Uni Low FODMAP Diet

Researchers at Monash University have developed a diet and corresponding app to assist in management of the gastrointestinal symptoms associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). The Monash University Low FODMAP diet works by restricting foods high in some carbohydrates called FODMAPs.
The app includes the following:

- Background information about FODMAPs
- A food guide detailing the FODMAP content for over 640 foods, including foods sourced internationally
- A full recipe book including 79 original and nutritious recipes with professional photography
- A shopping list for organising low FODMAP purchases
- A one week challenge to trial and monitor a strict FODMAP diet, with the function to view detailed graphs of symptoms and the end of the week

The install did not place an icon anywhere, nor is listed in my app list. I contacted Monash support via email. Their response time was commendable butI had to explain my problem twice in 2 separate emails. After I explained it the 2nd time in the 2nd email, they told me to contact Google Play. Having spent time in an IT support position, and doing everything I can to help a user, it makes me furious to get the brush off. Very disappointed as was looking forward to this app helping my health.

*current bug* I love this app. A absolute must have for people following a fodmap diet and I've been using it for years but it seems to have a bug currently where I can only search one food item at a time and then I have to go all the way out to the main menu and then back into the food search before it let's me search another food item in the search bar which is pretty annoying when wanting to check multiple foods. Hopefully this can be fixed soon.

Data seems good, but this is difficult to use, especially for a, not inexpensive, paid app. It has no search function, so one must scroll through long lists. This is very time consuming when one needs to find the acceptable amounts to use. Also, the organization of the lists is sometimes poor, e. g. Peanut butter under , "Condiments"?!

This is the absolute essential FODMAP app. It has been indispensible in my doing the FODMAP diet. Sure, the user interface could be more elegant, but c'mon, this is the authoritative list of foods and the FODMAPs they contain, lab-tested at the university that developed the diet in the first place! This isn't some random search result from who-knows-where. If you want to do the FODMAP diet, get this app. (BTW, there is totally a search function. IDK what that other reviewer is talking about.)

Terrible UI. So hard to search (even for simple things like 'oatmeal'). When I search for multiple items right after another, results stop showing up until I exit the app & enter again. Serving sizes show up in random order (sometimes smallest serving size is listed last, sometimes first, sometimes the middle). I have never left a bad review, but this is quite awful even if it was free! Sadly, nearly impossible to do the elimination w/o this app. FIG app is free & amazing for searching food!

There are some problems with this app: after searching and clearing the input searching again doesn't work, need to reopen the app. The lights system is not bad but it would be much more useful if there were more info about amount of each substance so if I want to eat a meal I would know how much of each product I can mix together (eg. no one eats just flour on it's own). I cannot find the backup option - I have a new phone and I cannot copy my diary.

We need a way to be able to search in the app based on FODMAPs. There are multiple results for the same food often with different ratings. There many foods missing as a rating in their basic form, not having any info or having info only as packaged option or in combination with other foods as a packaged product. In overall nessecary app, but very confusing and sometimes misleading, especially if you try to combine the info with the recepies. Please try to improve, we are paying and counting on it

It's only kind of helpful. They need more food in their system. And a way to search for a specific food. And most of the recipes are honestly kinda gross. It comes with all the info you could need on the fodmap diet. And a way to record. But in my opinion, it shouldn't cost what it does for what it provides. Google search and a journal would provide you with just a much if not a lot more.

Really like the detailed database with individual fodmap contents (although some of the portion sizes are a bit questionable). The main issue is that the app provides detailed advice on portion size limits, down to the gram, but no guidance on number of portions per meal. For example, the app would tell you that eating 100g of brocolli should be avoided, but eating 75g brocolli + 75g green beans + 65g courgette, etc is fine. There needs to be more transparency about max total fodmaps per meal.

It's THE source of information on Fodmaps, but you have to navigate a glitchy app and a layer of BS. Branded listings don't have any info on Fodmaps. You'll need to look up ingredients to properly plan low fodmap meals. Dietary guidelines shape serving suggestions as much as fodmaps. Read descriptions on green only foods with small servings and look up ingredients. The whole elimination to personalisation process is easier when you know you can occasionally eat a normal serving of junk food.

A fantastic resource, but the app needs work. The ordering of the traffic light system is not consistent. This seems to be an ongoing issue. I find that the serving sizes can be misleading. For example, Oats (rolled) are a green FODMAP, at both 26 g and 52 g. However, if you look deeper, there is a note saying that Large serves (78 g...) are high in Fructans and GOS. i.e, rolled oats should be a red traffic light at 78 g. There are many examples of this style of issue.

Fantastic app, I was lucky to find it soon after my diagnosis, 6 years ago. The app gives information about the right food and serving size. Additionaly, there is a lot of accurate guiding resources, links and more. It's up to the user to use the app appropriately. The app is a wise guide but the user has to do the job. Start by reading the whole content and set up your journey. Best wishes.

It's a good app, helps find info quickly. But the condiments section is not opening! There should be an option to only filter green items. An option to add to basket would help when going out shopping. An option to make curated meals from ingredients, which we could refer later would be helpful

The app is a great source of reliable information for people starting with the FODMAP diet. Some comments are more focused on minor bugs that the app has, instead on the quality of research and reliable information provided by the team of university scientists. App development is probably not their main scope of work, and if you don't mind some minor bugs, but are looking to learn more about the FODMAP diet, and which foods to avoid, it's a must have app.

Not good. The database of products is not extensive, and wasn't helpful. There's no local brands or even types of foods/veggies to my country, and the search bar doesn't work 80% of the time. And it is a paid app. There's a ton of free ones that aren't half as glitchy as this. Poor experience, Monash.

The diary on the app is malfunctioning. I keep a food log on there and when I try to share this with my dietitian it mixes the days and times. Can you please look into this asap. And yes I have tried reinstalling this app which I gave had for +3yrs! Looking forward to your response developers.

I realize that part of the cost of this app is for testing that costs hard money to perform, but this app lacks so many things and misses so many opportunities to make my life easier as a IBS sufferer. Most of these would be so simple to implement in a database like this. I'm glad I bought it, but disappointed in the execution.

I appreciate the research that went in to developing this data set, however as others have stated, the UI is quite poor. The search bar usually works on startup, but after a while stops working (typing in text does not refresh the search results) and a force-stop is required. Additionally, the stop light colors are not always displayed in a consistent order. For a paid app from a university, I would expect a more polished user experience.

Wny can't you take recommendations for new foods to test in the app it would be so much easier! Still, very useful app. I only use the food guide but this has been a game changer for me! I'm constantly referring to it, and they continue to add new foods, especially less conventional foods, so for those like me with a (mostly) non-western diet it allows you to stay on top of what foods to avoid or limit! There is no other food guide which compares or is as accurate!

I love this app. Days where I'm not sure why I have belly pain I can look foods up here and see what probably caused it. I'm a few years into managing moderate IBS (mine seems pickier than average) and this app definitely comes in handy. It's worth the cost. It also introduced me to Modify Health which does frozen fodmapped meals which are awesome for those 12 hour shifts when I come home and don't have the energy to cook. Thanks Monash University!

Good information and and helpful guides. Changing the country doesn't work and would be good if you could add recipe ingredients straight to thw shopping list.

It's just fine but it would useful to see also the fiber for any of the aliments in order to be easy to keep the minimum fiber intake on the way. Or in the meal journal section could be another form to add amount per aliment(from current data base) to get the total fiber per meal. I believe fiber is really important in this diet, but it's a personal point of view. It would also nice to add person products and their nutrition values to calculate easier the fiber(ex: my local usual bred rice).

Mostly OK and definitely helpful but once going beyond the opening page, it feels a little bit like a work in progress.

Decent app, reasonably easy to use. One thing I'd love to see is clarifications for the maximum amount on green foods as well as showing which fodmap it is high in.

Sam. H. Aug 6, 2019

This app is very useful, especially the food guide with respect to allowable amounts (in grams!) of foods. I like that we can add foods to a favourites list, but it would be easier to navigate if the favourites were automatically alphabetised. Recipes are also great to have. It would be more useful if we could add the ingredients straight to the shopping list. I don't find the Diary is helpful. It is annoying to have to enter the date and time for each log and the images are unnecessary.

So frustrating to use. The search sometimes just doesn't load and I never know if it's because that food isn't there or the app isn't loading. The layout is frustrating & clicking back doesn't go back to search results, but to the beginning. Green light foods sometimes mean you can eat freely and sometimes mean you can only eat a certain amount, but that is not easily seen at a glance. More than anything else I need a section of completely ok foods at any amount. Needs to be more user friendly.

I've used this app for a while now and it has been great. The new UI looks okay but it has lost some of it's accuracy with the traffic lights. When you search a food item the results show the traffic light order going in both directions; some list as green, amber red and some are listed as red, amber, green. It's very messy and confusing. Apart from that I love the app and always look forward to new foods being added. Keep up the good work.
