With a recent update, the Oregonian app has stopped working well on my 5-year-old Samsung tablet. It freezes and crashes at least twice with each daily issue, touching the left pain does not produce the story in the right pane, and black areas periodically block out part of stories when in book mode (the only way I can read it at all). Removal and reinstallation of the app did not help, and produced the message that the Oregonian app "was not optimized" for my system. That's an understatement! Can the Oregonian afford to throw away readers with 5-year old devices?

Since the new e-paper came out it is completely unreadable, articles overlap, cut off on the sides if you zoom in. I made the mistake of reinstalling the app because the Oregonian made it sound like there is a new version of app, before it did not cut off the sides. Now coming back I see it hasn't updated for some time. Where is the updated version?

App routinely freezes, crashes or won't load pages when using on tablet. Generally have to exit and reload several times to read an entire newspaper. Frustrating. Update 8/2020, app is now actually even worse. Freezes, won't open, crashes, wont load pages. Requires multiple forces closes to get through one day's news if I don't just give up. For an industry desperately trying to stay in business, a working app seems to be necessary to keep customers?

I like the app. However, for the past few months the Sunday edition has problems with the Sunday comics, Sunday e-section comics, and the e-section Washington Post. The layout is funky so that the right side of the page overlaps the middle and also cuts off part of the right side.

Unfortunately, 2 years after my first review, this app remains a disaster.... constantly locking up and going to total snow. I have to use it to read the newspaper, but, if there were any alternative I would be on it. Really, it seems like the developers have just given up on trying to fix the damn thing.

The app, which was marginal on an android tablet before the new database, doesn't work at all now. We can access the digital edition through the internet, but we experience 1-4 dumps or freezes per session. This is a useless and frustrating bit of technology. Give us our paper back, please.

Special sections like the Washington Post and Parade do not render properly on my Samsung table. Images overlap text and the right column is cutoff so is not readable. The app also freezes pretty often and has to be rebooted. Very frustrating to try to read just one daily edition.

Just when I thought the Oregonian had an app that worked. Bam! No more. I keep getting a message that my phone isn't connected to a data service. I'm, then how come every other app and function on my phone works just fine?! So frustrating....

Other newspapers I get seem to be able to have a working app but lots of problems with the Oregonian. Some versions crash or lock up, v3.2.46 wouldn't even load. v3.2.47 doesn't display adjacent panels in Wash. Post or comics correctly on my Samsung tablet. After a few seconds, panels shift and obscure each other.

Works well most if the time, but occasionally confused on my samsung galaxy - cant load a page or freezes. Better on my iPad. I use both every day for digital edition and sometimes Oregon Live version. Update in Nov. Working better now. No crashes.

This is a review of app and not content. Latest app a downgrade from previous already mediocre app. Some items, like comics, which can only be read by zooming in, are blurry and difficult to read. No auto-rotate.

The newspaper format is much appreciated. And east to navigate. In addition best local news coverage including business. The pop up to read articles is at a comfortable font reading size even on my phone.

Awful. Hard to read, very slow to download, but digital version only has limited articles. The old app, as bad as it was, was much better.

one of the worst apps ever. won't automatically go to today's edition. once started, notifies you of a new edition available then locks up so you can't do anything. uninstalling now!

The experience of reading a newspaper, with clearly defined sections keeps the context of the articles consistent. I appreciate the ability to both smoorhly enlarge an article and to share it with friends without them encountering a paywall.

Something happened in the latest update that causes the words to be very blurry. They don't come into focus unless I zoom in to the article. It wasn't like that last month.

I like the visual presentation and navigation options. It crashes every few minutes, however, and that's annoying

This app doesn't work most of the time. Images unexpectedly freeze requiring a restart. I suggest the Oregonian staff call the LA Times to purchase the app they use. It's bullet proof.

Just downloaded updates and now cannot open on tablet. What a pain....just gets worse. As of yesterday won't come up at all. Uninstalled 3 times. Now tells me cannot connect to the server. Works fine on the laptop, but not my tablet. UGH!!!!!!

Vic. G. May 23, 2019

The app has frozen, and I can't log in again. I would like to finish reading, but it stops. I have uninstalled and reinstalled three times

Not stable. Sometimes it's very hard to start. When you can get in, the zoom feature gets lost frequently

Dav. B. Apr 5, 2019

Terrible app. Often won't start and crashes all the time. Bad app since it started years ago. Have to use it because no alternative.

Rus. M. Nov 26, 2019

After reading a few articles, the app tends to crash. This happens on several different devices.

A. G. u. Jan 10, 2019

crashes at least 3 times even after reinstalling and too much advertising. content is good but many typos.

Tom. S. Aug 9, 2020

Poor app, does not keep articles centered, jumps to next article unexpectedly. Has actually gotten worse with recent (August 2020) revision.

Dan. M. Oct 27, 2020

This new version(3.2.46) does not work on my pixel 3a on android 11. Just crashes. I tried clearing cache and data. Going back to working version 3.2.40.

M. F. Feb 1, 2019

Terrible app these days. Constant crash and articles don't load. Maybe they think if it's bad enough people will start buying paper again?

A. G. u. Dec 19, 2018

Prefer printed copy. The digital version helps tie me over those days when my subscription doesn't cover a printed version and when I'm away from my home.

Dav. R. Dec 10, 2020

It's slow, difficult to find information, searches are poor and it crashes often.

Dou. C. Oct 29, 2020

Started crashing on my android phone (Moto). Cleared cache, rebooted, etc. Still crashing. Frustrating.
