The Planets VR

This Google Cardboard app allows you to travel to all the planets and their moons, exploring the surfaces in VR. Select any landing site and then once you reach the planet surface you can explore the planet by tilting you head left and right to change you direction of flight. Looking up and down will change your altitude and in the settings you can enable a head up display to help you navigate further.

There are thousands of named landing sites throughout the Solar System to choose from. They are located on Mercury, Venus, Earth, the moon, Mars, Jupiter, Europa, Ganymede, Io, Callisto, Saturn, Titan, Enceladus, Mimas, Iapetus, Dione, Tethys, Rhea, Uranus, Titania, Miranda, Umbriel, Ariel, Oberon, Neptune, Triton, Pluto and Charon.

This app is not for use by children under age 12.

Review surroundings and clear obstacles before use. Take steps to prevent pets, children, or other obstacles entering the area during use. Take 15 minutes break for every hour of use of the app. Do not use the app if you are tired or need sleep.

The new Version 2 is a big improvement with better definition and navigation. I enjoyed comparing the surfaces of Mercury and Pluto, and exploring the moons of Saturn.

MAKE IT WITH NON VR ALSO

"Jupiter" is simply a black sky over a featureless white planet. Saturn is identical, with a yellow planet (aren't there supposed to be rings?) Mars and Mercury were better, where "better" means all mountains are merely four-sided pyramids. About 30% of the time, I simply got an error "Unfortuntely, the app has stopped working. Must've taken them all night to write this software.
