The Raventhal (IceBlink RPG)

The Raventhal (an IceBlink Engine RPG)
Turn-based computer role playing game (RPG) with a wonderfully crafted story. Implements some classic old-school computer RPG style and also includes great 8-bit music created by Pongo.

Story, music and most artwork by PongoIceBlink Engine and port to Android by slowdive_fan (aka me)

Features:
- designed for phones, but scales well on tablets (I have a galaxy tab 3 8").
- totally FREE with NO ads and NO in-app purchase stuff.
- turn based combat similar in style to the SSI Gold Box games.
- great RPG story telling conversation system.
- RPG offline and single player (you control all party members) game.
- multiple companions can join your party.
- 8-bit retro music by Pongo.
- lots of replayability (is that a word?).
- three races, four classes and many spells to choose from.
- multiple saves available (save often).
- lots of items to find and wield.
- A short story (2-4 hours) with great pace and no fluff.

The Raventhal (IceBlink RPG) description by Pongo:"You went fishing, capsized, and wake up cold and wet in the Raventhal, a forest with a very sinister reputation. Your one objective is to get out of the forest and return back to your village. How hard can it be...!?There's quite a bit of combat, but a big focus on the module is party interaction and story. You start off on your own, but you'll soon find other characters who may join you if you choose. The NPCs are a colourful bunch who talk amongst themselves, disagree with your decisions, and (occasionally) do something useful. Of course, you can always decide just to ignore them all and play solo."

Progress Reporting Feature:A fun new way to share your play through experience with others. There is a toggle button on the main map screen labeled "PR" (bottom right toggle button). Pressing this button will turn Progress Reporting on and off. If you do not wish to share your play through experience, no problem, just turn off Progress Reporting. If you do wish to share, leave the "PR" button on. If Progress Reporting is on, then at a number of milestone events, it will send your party's current stats to our Google Analytics Dashboard. I will post the listings of Progress Reports to our forums (see our website link below) for others to share in the experience. No personally identifiable information is collected, just information about your party. The tag that will separate your Progress Report from others is your main PC's name. We are excited to see how others are enjoying our adventure stories so we hope you enjoy this new feature as well.

The Raventhal was originally Created by Pongo for the IceBlink Engine (IB). I ported the engine to Android and worked with Pongo to convert The Raventhal as the first adventure module conversion to Android. The IceBlink Engine is inspired by some of my favorite cRPGs (many being old retro style RPGs) such as the SSI Gold Box Games, original Bard's Tale, Ultima, and the Infinity Engine games (like Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale...definitely check out Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition by Beamdog now on Android, Yeah! ...I own way too many versions of the Infinity Engine games now, haha) and my 6+ years of experience with building adventure modules in Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2.

Fantastic little game! Needs an update for latest version of Android!

Nice little romp, a fun call back to old school rpg. Haven't got terribly far, admittedly yet, but it's a charming creation that I feel is well worth persisting with. Feels like one of the better games of this type out there. One that genuinely deserves it's rating. Well done to the devs, at any rate.

Love this, great characters and writing. Battles are balanced (once I realised there were areas I hadn't explored yet). One small criticism, the character creation tool is a little weird, I created a character but they didn't appear in my party automatically. Took me ages to figure out where they were and how to add them. Would love a longer story!

Perfect. It's a cute little rpg game where your character meets different companions (or you can just ignore them if you want). Your choices influence the story which makes it have a great replay value. Most of all it's completely free and no ads. Great work :)

Game looks to be good... just one little flaw... there seems to be no start up menu! So I accidently clicked start with a character that sucked... and I could not exit that game to a startup menu and make a character I liked! So the game looks fun enough that I erased it off my device and am going to reinstall it so I can try a different character that I get better rolls on. I will give 5 stars if you make a startup menu to return to for making new characters or restarting etc.

Its like old school D&D. I created a Dwarf fighter named Dickus. I met a minidragon, Ezzbel, a forest fairy, Rani, a fighter with a dark past, Bathak, and a bounty hunter named Anu. I came across a religious altar and had a choice to either pray or desecrate it. I'm not religious in games or real life, so I spit on it! Really like this game.

The game has decent pace, but is a bit rough around the edges. Especially in the beginning area

Very fun and engaging little adventure with gameplay and mechanics reminiscent of the old Black Isle PC games (e.g. Baldur's Gate). Only complaints are that the story text is badly in need of some proofreading, and the game is too short - it's disappointing that it ends so soon!

This is a fun time-waster. Various alignments to follow and engrossing. You can beat the game in about hour or two... And then try a new hero and make new choices. This game would be even better with new maps to explore and new items to collect.

The biggest problem IS resting. The other issue is showing characters be able to achieve level 10, yet the highest is lvl 4. Took several times to figure out to play the whole game design. Storyline just a little to short. Overall.... Okay game.

You can play with any class as your PC. You immediately get a fighter type NPC to help. Lots of repay value.

Having never heard of the Ice Link engine I decided to give this game a try only cause it was free. Very glad I did as this RPG is really a testament to how hard work and a simple design can make for one hell of a game! Can't wait to try the other games that utilize this engine.

This app is fun and quite hard to finish. Whenbit finshes i wish it was longer. Haha i won't reply it because it's basically the same thing but it was fun while it lasted.

I get the impression that a lot was taken from Lord of the Rings. There is no pathfinding so movement is tedious. The story is engaging, but the graphics are unappealing.

Love. Old school d&d style. All these games need to somehow be mashed together to make a sprawling epic. There is a lot of potential here.

Very very good story. In my opinion its the story that makes an RPG great. Hope to play some more titles of yours.

Pretty cool game. I finished it in about 2 or 3 hours at most. I would have enjoyed more time to explore the skill trees, but it was fun nonetheless.

I got very involved in it, was so sad that I can't play more, but great story and fun game play nevertheless. Really highlights the fun points of D&D.

Blatant rip off of many of the artwork, but makes for a great challenging game. Good writing, classic d20 stat and combat rules.

To be completely honest i was scepticle of playing this game seeing as ive never played a game like this and liked it..but after playing it i can honestly say i enjoyed it quite a bit..i didnt want it to end

I liked the game and was eager to try Hearkenwold, until I realized that I had to start all over. I figured I'd be able to load my character in from this module, but was disappointed. This feature would be cool.

Really enjoyed it, the characterizations are really good, background storytelling feels natural and the comedy sides aren't bad at all, it brings smile on my face, sadly it's too short. Any chance for the continuation story?

A fun little adventure for fans of classic RPGs. It's a very lo-fi project, but there is some fun writing and a nice little adventure to be had. It won't take you long to finish. With a little tighter writing and some cleaner art, I would enjoy seeing it expanded into a longer game.
