The Red Phone

The Red Phone is a basic SIP soft phone application.
One of our hobbies at Little Bytes of Pi is VOIP telephony. We use a Raspberry Pi and the open source Asterisk telephone server software to get free home phone service, and we wanted to build a SIP client application to go with it.

The Red Phone is built with the popular Linphone open source software. It has only a few modifications:

- It is painted red to match the colour scheme of our Raspberry Pi
- It only has phone functions; the video and chat features in the Linphone core are hidden.
- You can setup a 'Red Phone Number' to get one button dialing and auto answer from your most important contact.

From reading reviews/instructions on this app it seems something is missing. First screen is supposed to give you a chance to register your number and then use the secure voip. Problem is that is not happening. This needs to be fixed as soon as possible. It looks like everything was going great but something happened to the app and it has not been resolved. Hope you all get it right, looks to be a good option when working correctly...

Its is false advertising. You can not register your phone nor can you set up using the step up option.A total waste of time. :(

Not easily configurable, meant for tech geeks, and not the average user.

It's not explaining anything. I don't know how to use it. Am I supposed to set something up? It doesn't give an option and it won't dial out.

RedPhone is now SIGNAL (Open Whispers). RedPhone is NO LONGER SUPPORTED. I rated this app One-Star in the hopes people would read this. I, too, was frustrated by reading positive reviews, then being unable to install. Signal is RedPhone and TextSecure rolled into one app. The "secure phone line" only works when the app is installed on CALLER'S phone and RECEIVER'S phone. Obviously, these phone calls MUST be made from inside the app. I LOVE Signal. Hope this was helpful info!
