Update: Months later, no change. PLEASE allow me to read the article I click on! That's all I'm asking. Love the articles, hate the app. The app keeps telling me to subscribe. I'm already a subscriber. When I go to log in, I'm already logged in. I have to log out and log in again to access articles. Every other day. That's annoying. There are usually one to three articles that won't open. Tapping the lead takes me to a different article. Also frustrating.
There is no rhyme or reason to how articles populate the feed. Articles from the last couple of days are randomly on the homepage two or three times while others are nowhere to be found. The news tab is not any better. One has to frequently scroll through everything in order to find anything new.
‣Update: down to one star. It knows I'm a subscriber and still gives me ads. It's not a bug, it's Trib greed. Also no more daily covid updates. Will cancel subscription. ‣Original: I love the Trib's reporting, but yeah, this app is a fuster cluck. Top problems in order of severity: 1. Tapping notifications either does nothing or opens an empty page about 2/3 of the time. 2. It's constantly forgetting who I am and so I get ads despite my subscription.
I'm a paid subscriber, paying to have access through the paywall. Still fails & crashes consistently. i'm logged in, it shows my acct profile as logged in but doesn't lead me read articles. The login screen keeps popping back up. Tough times for the newspaper, i can only assume the $5 they spent on the app was a fail!!
The app will not allow you to copy text from articles to paste elsewhere. When I share a news story on social media I quote a sentence or two from the article in my status to show what I'm reacting to. I can't do that with this app, so I've gone back to reading with the mobile site.
I have no problem with the Tribune but this app is garbage. While I am actively logged in I hit a paywall. Not only that but I pay for a subscription and am still advertised to. As well, I click on an article and it will pull up a different one than I am trying to read. A news app is pretty basic not sure why it fails so spectacularly.
The app works fine, but doesn't work with Facebook. Despite the fact that I am a paying subscriber, when I open links in Facebook I get the paywall, every time. Clicking the link to "sign in" just returns me to the paywall! Very frustrating!
Fix your app. I'm a subscriber and constantly hit the paywall because your app can't recognize my logged in subscriber account.
Doesn't allow you to have links to the Trib open in the app. Really annoying.
They just put everything in the app behind a paywall. Guess I'll have to find a new source for local news.
Just subscribed to the Tribune but the app doesn't let me login using Google...
This is a terrible newspaper. Negative and extremely biased. Utah deserves better.
Why not just upgrade your software without a new app?
Horrible experience dealing with app.
This app and the paper are trash
One of the worst experiences I've had f
Ditto other's system prob comments 😒
After reading all negative reviews, I just about didn't install. Unlike previous reviews, I found articles timely, pertinent, easy to find. Articles are also categorized. I'll add a star after I use this a few weeks.
I would love to support this paper with a paid subscription. In the world of mobile devices your feed is unusable. Your old app was completely abandoned for years. Hopefully you'll invest better in this app because it is pretty bad for today's standards.
Horrible app. C'mon Tribune, you can do better.
Slow, jerky, ugly. An app isn't worth installing if it's no better than the website. In this case, it's actually worse than the website. Sorry guys; back to the drawing board.
No way to sign in for ad free. What did I just pay $79 for?
I'm so disappointed with the Tribune's new app! Today, when I opened it, I saw a picture of a woman with pink hair, but no headline! I had to tap the picture to get the headline. And that was the only "news" story! After that there were 3 sports stories, 2 opinion pieces, 4 stories on religion, and 6 stories on arts and living. Most days, there are more sports stories than news. And the settings section is a joke! No way to prioritize the sections I want to see. The old app was so much better!
This appears to be a rough draft of an app. It looks nice, and might have some improved functionality over the old Tribune app, but it's a little awkward to use. The news is days old, and the link to comments doesn't work. I'll stick with viewing the trib in a browser, and check on this app again after a few updates. Right now it's terrible.
The Salt Lake Tribune has perhaps the worst news app I've ever experienced. About on par for the paper--poor functionality and design. As well, news reporting is negative and biased. It's just as well, I am deleting app and adding KSL's.
Compared to old app, this app blows. Too slick, too difficult to find local news articles. No ability to search for articles or to search the archives.
A pointless app that has either no news or news days old. Improve it and add a reasonable pay wall after 10 articles per month.
This app has useful content, but the user interface is poor. I'm giving up and getting my news elsewhere.
The app has HTML tags spilling out all over. The links on the right give a 404 error. And the contact us page isn't wired up. Sad.
Miss the first version of this app, so sad I updated it! Big regrets. Now I hate having to download each edition, and I never do it. I loved being able to click on the paper layout and it would load the digital article. I also miss the notifications for articles that I would get, and because of those I would read the paper daily. Now I never open the app. I still support the Tribune, but this new version of the app is horrible. Also not a fan of the black layout.
