Review for the app itself, which is meh. Journalism is fine. But if you are looking for a specific article, you may have to endure much scrolling and menu clicking to find it, because this app has no search bar. There is also no 'contact us' option in it to address problems or make suggestions. It's unwieldy and not very user friendly.

This app appears to periodically steal the contents of your clipboard when opened. Newer versions of Android have a feature that notifies users when an app takes content from your clipboard in the background. This app is one that seems to do that. To me, this is a terrible security and privacy risk since clipboards can often contain passwords, 2 factor auth codes, or private text you would not assume would be made public. Seattle Times should stop pasting clipboard contents without permission.

Really dumbed down. I now read the print replica every day instead because this app is so bad. It barely skims the surface of the stories covered in the actual paper, leaves out all the sections and weekly offerings, and seems to be about on the level of Buzzfeed when it comes to offering clickbait.

It is sometimes hard to get into the page browser mode meaning that you have to turn each page going through the whole paper. It would be nice to have an index with hot linksso you can go straight to the section you want.

The web site is easy to navigate and the news is helpful and clear. I appreciate the coverage of Seattle and Washington state news that is hard to find in other places. It's worth subscribing and supporting the Times.

Disappointing app by Seattle Times. I was excited to subscribe and pay to support for The Seattle Times journalism but this app deterse from keeping my subscription. Sublinks for articles within The Seattle Times do not work and do not open to the colored ponding articles. Opens for other links like YouTube and other news links but not their own... Also doesn't even have a basic search option for articles. Might as well just use the website and not the app. Will be cancelling subscription.

For some reason, when I read the coronavirus daily news updates, the links to finish articles in this section won't work. I keep looking for an app update that would fix this problem, but I haven't seen one yet.

I love the Seattle times-- I've come to realize that local news is the only kind really worth reading. The app leaves a LOT to be desired ( had anyone else found a search bar?), but it's there easiest way to read the content usually, so i use it.

The web site works well most of the time. However, it keeps requiring me to log in even after repeatedly entering my info. I get numerous emails from the paper, but articles will not open when directed in the paper when routed from google mail. I have to go to the ST website.

I moved here after living in East Coast cities with great newspapers. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the writing and scope of reporting provided by the Seattle Times. The app itself is innocuous. That's a good thing.

Doesn't have a search feature. I get my subscription so I can get the word jumble and I can't go right to it! I tried the print replica app and have to reinstall it every few days to get it to work. But at least I can search with that one!!

Would like to see option to access newspaper print replica in the app. Like the quick access to content listed, but don't like app's lack of access to other content.

I like to to use this app to read the news on the bus. Today I discovered that my cell phone data quota was nearly exhausted. I figured it was some of my streaming apps that were the big data users, but it was the Seattle Times app. I burned through almost 4GB in 3 weeks just reading text and viewing a few images! I suspect the real data hog is the video advertisements that auto-start in the background. I understand they need to have ads, but the app should give me the ability to disable video. Also, the push notifications are very annoying. Most of the 'Breaking News' alerts aren't major news at all, so you end up having to disable all of the app's notifications. It should allow me to configure which notifications are of interest to me.

Not the best newsreader. Very cumbersome and neutered. Constant updates are okay, but I'm not sure how to limit them. Not to sound snobby but I bought the NYT news reader and subscribe to that one as well. It's fast and intuitive. Which makes since since millions of people read and utilize the times. This app will often freeze in the middle of the story. The photos won't process correctly. The ads are an eyesore and not a fan of them, but I understand their purpose. It has room for improvement

I can't scroll to the bottom of articles. I start reading and get into the article, but then I can read it to the end! The most basic function of a news media app is to be able to read all of the words. What a failure. Update: it also frequently opens an article different than the one I clicked on. Update: now it crashes every 15 seconds

Good app for reading the Seattle Times, but I have two complaints and dinged one star for each. First, the app ignores your phone-wide auto-rotate setting. I have my phone set to never do that. This is the only app that does it anyway. Second, the app sends a few notifications a day linking to various news stories. If you click on the notification to open the article, there's no share button. You have to open the app, hunt for the article you just had open, and only then does a button appear.

It would be a 5 star app, except for a few bugs. When I receive a notification, the symbol is black and doesnt show up on my screen, it only shows up on light backgrounds. I also cannot fully read most of the articles, because it will not scroll down far enough. The most recent patch says to have addressed this issue, but even with the newest update I still cant read the whole article.

This app is THE worst. Crashes ALL the time. I get that apps are a work in progress but this app had sucked for years. Worst thing in my opinion is the app overrides my phone's screen orientation lock. Don't want to ever view in landscape mode? Too bad - the Seattle Times knows better and will change to landscape if the phone is turned on it side. Honestly - you'd be better off going through your neighbor's recycle bin to read a stained ,weeks old copy of the physical paper then use this app.

Links consistently take me to the wrong stories. Login glitches. Most recently trying to read an article and the page kept bouncing from it seems ad generation and presentation. Looks like this feedback is common. Pagination issues. All the above persist. Really annoying. Login won't stick from anywhere other than the app and it's awful. No bug fixes recently and it seems they don't care. Weighing uninstall and stopping my service.

This app is bare bones. It doesn't do the basic things pretty much any other text-based app allows. No zoom on images, no text size options, and then there's the below, my biggest issues. There is no orientation lock- it's like the app thinks it knows better than me and overrides my phone's setting. I'm sorry, no. Stop. Also, there is no search. If I want to read any articles related to a specific policy or person, not possible. I have to search in a browser, then open in app. Ugh why??

Way. W. Feb 24, 2021

While i enjoy the Seattle Times, this app doesn't help promote the stories covered by the organization. When you click on links from Google news feeds and elsewhere, it brings you to the article, but doesn't display the share button or the save button. You would want readers to easily share articles so you can attract new subscribers. How is this still a problem for so long? Also, system wide rotation settings are overrided by the app. When you accidentally turn the device, the app rotates

Rya. M. Dec 25, 2020

My review is purely focused on the functionality of the app, not the content. With that said, I feel there are many features lacking. The fact that the screen always rotates irrespective of the phone's setting seems like a glaring design flaw. Offline articles, dark mode and a basic settings menu would be nice.

When you're reading through headlines, an ad will autoscroll you away from what you were reading. At best it jolts you off your spot, at worst the line you were on is pulled off the page. I can tolerate the ads (even though I pay for the sub), as I understand journalism is a tough business. but the autoscroll to frame the ad happens suddenly, without user input, and seemingly multiple times a minute. I've become a bit allergic to it.

Cor. S. Mar 29, 2020

In my opinion, the website offers a better visual experience. The app has small fonts and they try to fit too many words on each line (bad mobile layout.) Also, the app has no login feature for subscribers. There's no way to set up in app notifications, or customize content in any way. So what's the point of having a dedicated app?

Jen. Z. Mar 11, 2020

Not sure what has happened but lately every time I try to read a story after about a minute the story closes on me and it goes back to the home page, this has happened multiple times over the past week. I'm in the middle of reading an article! Incredibly frustrating and has made me abandon using the app at all.

Horrible App, embarrassing coming from tech savvy Seattle. I am a subscriber to the ST, NYT, and WSJ. Why is the ST app do bad? The latest behavior on my Samsung Android phone is that a huge red box appears larger than the field of view and when you scroll up to click the "X" to make it go away, you are left back to the top of the article and you need to then scroll down to where you were until it happens again. The cycle repeats itself until you get frustrated/give up. Solution: Bag the App.
