The State News: Columbia, SC

I read The State for coverage of SC and Midlands news, and it's pretty good for that. The app was improved in Aug '21. The stories are now sorted with the newest ones on top. There are fewer problems with links leading to the wrong article. It's reliable, unlike delivery of the paper edition. Cons: it's slow to open a tapped story, taking four seconds or more to respond. The Topics menu has blue 'buttons' that do nothing; you have to tap the matching text instead. Most photos are stock images.

They "updated" the e-edition. In the "update", they made it impossible to read any of the articles or view any of the special features, like the puzzles, cartoons, opinions, sports articles, etc. Thus, the e-edition is now completely unusable. There is no reason to pay money to the State News for this now worthless product. You can get all of your news elsewhere and without cost.

I got this app (and paid for the subscription) for south carolina news. I don't care about Kansas news, so stop putting it at the top of my feed. I stopped paying for the subscription after it went up 10 dollars a month! I know journalists have to get paid, I respect that, but a 10 dollar jump? I can afford 17, I can't afford 27. The notifications are also broken. If I see an interesting headline in my notifs then can't read the story because it just takes me to the homepage, now I'm frustrated.

Ap is horrible. Half the links don't work and then just sit there waiting to load, but I can go load it in internet in a snap. Not a fan. Also, it is covered with ads, I don't want to pay a monthly subscription for an ap or a website covered with ads. No thanks.

Generally good. Some issues with navigation like being able to backup using back arrow. At times, entering app complicated, but again, 4star satisfied.

I keep having to uninstall and then install the app again. I am installing latest version but it just stops working periodically. Frustrating.

They updated the app and now it is harder to read the newspaper. App keeps cutting completely off.

I have downloaded the app twice now and still cannot access the news! Do not tell me to go to the website. It is 2021 and apps are not a new thing! Come on!

It is amazing The State gets scooped on local news by a small daily in Orangeburg. The mall shooting was reported in Orangeburg the day after it happened. The State took 2 days. Are you really a NEWS paper?

I have uninstalled this app, and I still am getting emails and pop ups. Please stop!!!

Wants me to block adblocker. They don't host their own obits but use legacy. Why pay anymore? Disgusting! will not renew sub!

Seamless change from one stiry to the next. Good looks in a cellphone.

The updated app is much more user friendly and the new options are awesome.

I did certainly enjoy seeing our local news every morning with my coffee. It's what started my day. But Since the app has been updated, there is a subscription fee to read some of the news stories??? What happened and why?? My rating has gone down! I'm no longer happy with this app!
