The setting to resize the text changes the size so little that it's almost unnoticeable. It appears you are more interested in keeping your new format than allowing people with low vision to be able to read it. It is just barely big enough at the largest setting for me to read it, but not comfirtably. I really don't like this app at all. The paper is much less readable than it was in the previous app. I also hate the font. If this doesn't change I will unsubscribe.

Excellent app. Keeps me up to date with world and US news as well as opinion, food, science etc. wherever I am. Also doesn't bombard me with emails if I don't specifically subcribe to a subject. Highly recommended, worth the price of admission. Only complaint is that my friends cannot read the many articles I forward to them if they don't have a subscription. Bummer.

What the heck happened?? I prefer the print edition. Everytime I try to scroll through the pages by section, something goes wrong: Can't get past page A4, or when I get to "World" it reverts to A1 or kicks totally out of the app. Sometimes comments don't load. This is becoming nonfunctional for me, and the subscription is becoming worthless. Tech support was able to resolve the problem of the app throwing an error when I tried to get past A4, but now it kicks me out when I get to "World".

HORRIBLE! The modern SELECT app was amazing, slick and so easy to use on a mobile device, hence the reason to have an app. On May 8, it was officially retired and DOWNgraded to this version. Clearly WaPo did not do any user preference testing. Usability now is akin to moving from a brand-new condo to my grandmother's old house. Formatting and font sizes of headlines seem random, some big and some almost impossible to see. Pictures that used to catch my eye to each article are now few and far in between. Content of each section haphazardly laid out, with unrelated sections wedged in between. Now Ads are everywhere!!! As a subscriber, I was able to avoid them in the prior Select app. Not anymore. So why am I paying for this? Looking for another less annoying, often free, source for my news. Sadly, I did like the content WaPo had to offer. But not if I have to struggle to read it.

This new WAPO App does not display well on my phone. It looks and feels like browser web version scrunched on my phone. Enlarging fonts only works for the headlines, but the categories at the top are still tiny. It is no longer easy to scroll through, no summary text. Just headlines. It is reader friendly on a phone.

I am just commenting how incredibly frustrating it is that the wapo app has some articles and all headlines available in dark mode for (among others) the visually impaired, but so many articles upon clicking their headlines transport me to this unreadable small-font-on-blinding-white background that Dark Mode is designed to avoid. and not even a way to force zoom in the app on articles (despite a setting indicating otherwise). UPDATE: 8 months later still no fix. not even an attempt.

Update- WAPO really doesn't care. The app company they hired has totally fleeced them. I really tried to adapt, but it is just unbearable to use. No change in my past comments. The new app is not reader friendly. Too many different font sizes. Not easy to navigate across sections. Comments demoted to the bottom where it can't be found. And being forced to look at the same adverts over and over again. I already had to uninstall the Smartnew app due to "bugs". This app looks like the next to go.

I cannot stand the new version of the app I was forced to switch to in April 2022. I want to see the top stories in an easily scrollable layout. Instead the stories have many different sizes and layouts and get repeated as I scroll. Also there's no way to turn off things like the opinion section that is now a fixed and prominent feature of the top stories section.

So glad you forced me off the old app and your alternative to the card interface is the new discovery widget, which has shown the same stories for the past seven days. I've reinstalled the widget, rebooted the phone, even put it on another phone. Same 21 stories, now a week old. Some discovery. But thanks to you, I've rediscovered Flipboard. You're off my home screen, and they're on. I'll be reading a lot less WaPo thanks to that. Too bad.

I don't like the new layout at all. It was so easy to scroll through the old "split screen" presentation to find articles of interest. In the new app the headline fonts are all over the spectrum, and the layout is visually complicated, giving me the impression that WP is attempting to direct me to the stories it wants me to read, rather than allowing me to easily determine that myself. Less than satisfactory all the way around.

Ugly and inaccessible. I take a 6 month hiatus from the news, and when I return, the post looks like the stupid google news section when you swipe right on your phone. So disappointed in the change. Still don't like the format. Still looks like Google news. The ads are annoying, make the articles jumpy, and make it very difficult to read through. I am no longer inclined to read the articles in the paper from by-line to final periods. Please give the option to return to the previous app.

The new Washington Post "Select" app looks great on a phone screen, but looks like a dog's breakfast on a Chromebook. Different font sizes for headlines (the smaller the font, the longer the story has been on the site, and some of them are OLD), different size photos--your eyes are taken all over the place looking for new stories. I miss the old app that had headlines down the left side of the screen. It amused me that those headlines got tweaked more often than the actual stories.

Awful change to its layout. I moved from NY Times back to Washington Post, since I loved its layout, very comfortable, professional, easy to navigate. Now it is just a bunch of text which makes me not even want to read. Hard to find articles I would be wanting to read, distasteful experience. Not sure why they would do this change.

Tim. S. Mar 24, 2022

The new UI is much harder to read and pick articles for which I am interested. The headings, text and all aspects run together making it impossible to differentiate sections and/or articles. I have tried all three themes and have the same issue in all of them. The last version of the app was significantly better. This is a giant step backwards to 1995 on the web with a small screen.

Ste. B. Apr 11, 2022

Alerts are fine, but instead of taking me directly to the article, I keep getting dragged to a tutorial and then the alert I clicked on doesn't even show up under "alerts," so I can go to the store. It's cumbersome. Heck, I just tried to open the comics and when I zoom in, it takes me away from what I want to read and back to the stinking tutorial.

The consolidated version of the app (this one) is much worse in terms of reading experience than the old app. Ways it is worse include: - Giant ads (the ads went from limited to several times within every story). This is a paid app. Ads should be limited. - Poor navigation. Stories repeat in multiple parts of the app. There is also no indication from a table of contents when an article has been read. - Prefer the major updates twice a day over constant updates. Give me the digital equivalent of a morning paper where new stuff is not mixed in the with articles from the past week - Discover section useless. We don't care about the stupid tiles. We want to see articles with nice photos and easy navigation. The Discover articles are all available in other parts of the app. - Fonts and Pictures less readable in this version In short this was a step backwards. Seeing the print version is a marginal improvement, but that section could have been added to the select app along with a local sections.

Basically the web page. I was hoping the "update" of the old app would be improvements to its basic form: better search results, publication dates on the articles, accessibility by sections (sports, style, etc). Instead, it's an overwhelming clash of stories without the easy to read and peruse columns of the original app. Why would anyone choose this over the website? Hoping they keep the old app, with all its faults.

Jea. J. Apr 13, 2022

I'm upset that you have stopped the other app that was a shorter version that had the latest major headlines in each category. Easy to scroll and catch up on the major stories of the day. If the Morning Mix or Discover section in this app is supposed to be a partial substitution, they fall short. The stories in those sections are several days old and their order seems to be random. Why didn't you try to change these sections to replicate the best features of the discontinued app?

G. B. May 22, 2022

This app is made for small phones, not for large tablets. I prefer the Blue WaPo app, with its split screen viewing and drop down menu of articles titles, but it forces me to upgrade to this new app, which is only good for small phones, and for doing a lot of scrolling on big fonts. It's a downgrade.

Ren. D. Apr 25, 2022

hard to read, not an improvement over prior tablet version. artsy-fartsy, not helping me to find the important news of the day. wish i could continue to use the old version. Also, doesn't open properly many times. Says unavailable, but The Guardian and other apps have no problem.

Gar. N. Apr 30, 2022

Have had a subscription for a few years. Was my favorite newspaper. Used to work great before the change of interface. Now while reading headlines, it keeps sending you back to beginning. Hate this new interface. Extremely annoying. Hope they fix this soon. Was a 5 star app.

Dan. B. Mar 18, 2022

The old app was much better. I tried the new one for a while but then deleted it. Now I'm forced to reinstall it. I'll try for a little while but I that I will cancelling my subscription based on the poor usability of this app. Update: Hey, Washington Post- I'm a SUBSCRIBER! I will be reading your paper on the website where my ad blocker protects me, rather than in this terrible app. The ONLY reason I still have the app is for the comics, which unaccountably are not accessible on the website.

Mar. F. Apr 28, 2022

New app is far less visually appealing and behaves erratically on my Samsung S22 Ultra. When I begin scrolling down a story, the text alignment jumps to the left edge of the phone. It is a relatively minor annoyance, but it is visually jarring when it happens. I may end up simply using mobile web site on my phone.

Bra. H. Apr 12, 2022

Sorry this app is not good. First, I am a paid subscriber and should not be shown ads. Second, from the start the font used for the headlines is extremely overwrought and much less readable than in the previous app. WaPo has been attempting to force the new app for months and months with zero opportunity for feedback. Here it is - the app is not good. No reason for lots of different categories and sections. Just want a simple scrollable list.

Ste. D. Apr 12, 2022

Terrible update. The app now is only a list of titles of articles. You can't browse through and decide what you want to read by scanning the article. You must click into each article to see the content. This is a clumsy experience and negates the usefulness of a newspaper.

Eva. H. Mar 23, 2022

The new app is incredibly disappointing. It's full of inline ads, including distracting video ads, even for subscribers. You now get the same reading experience as on the mobile site but without the ability to use an adblocker. It's now unusable for me, and probably for many other people with attention or sensory processing disabilities. I've uninstalled it and unsubscribed to WaPo - I'll switch to the Kindle Edition subscription for as long as that remains usable.

Ioa. Y. Apr 11, 2022

I hate it! I find it difficult to navigate. It is too jumbled for me. I want a straight forward newspaper experience. I prefer the original and probably will discontinue using the app By the way, where are the comics? I need them to restore my sanity after reading the news. New is not always better.
