I think the app has serious connectivity issues even on a fast wifi or 4G connection. It appears that the developers may have the socket connection timeout set too low or something like that. Or else the server itself isn't responding quickly enough. I'm just speculating because I constantly get the completely useless error message "An unexpected error has occurred". There shouldn't even BE a network call involved in opening the latest issue of The Week. It should be cached on the device.
I love The Week magazine, but have become addicted to reading on my phone. With the price hike, I downloaded the poorly rated app. And folks were right; that reading the pages was crazy awful. Took me 10 minutes to figure out click on TEXT at the bottom of the screen. Doh!! Also, first screen (subscribe/read), scroll down to see which issue you want to read.
I downloaded the app because it looks like you aren't posting the magazine issues on the website anymore. The only reason I accessed the magazine via the website was to print the puzzle page. However, I don't see a way to print from the app. Very disappointed. Please either implement that functionality in the app, or go back to posting the issues on the website.
What happened? Used to be you could open the app and download the current issue into your library. All of a sudden that stopped working in May. Then today when I try to view the current issue, it's a a totally new format. Before it was like reading the actual magazine now it's some sort of streamlined layout for mobile devices or something. All I know is I don't like it and I want it back the way it was. UPDATE: if you select PDF from the bottom menu it's the magazine format again.
EDIT they were finally able to fix the problem. I can login with my account now. \EDIT I have the same problem everyone else has been having. A recent app upgrade has made me unable to login to my account. Customer service has been less than useless on fixing this issue. I have been a borderline religious reader of The Week since 2009, but now I'm about to call Customer Service (again) and ask for a full refund. This is beyond unacceptable.
Love the app! The way that it can adapt to work well for mobile and then show the actual magazine is very helpful. I wish you could highlight on it though. It would make referring back to it much easier. Thank you!
I initially had trouble with the app but I reached out to The Week staff, their solution didn't work, so they sent me to the app support team at Zinio. They got back to me within 12 hours of my email and sent me detailed instructions on how to fix my issue on my Android phone. after I followed the directions within an hour my magazine issues downloaded, and I'm now able to access everything easily. Thank you Zinio for your great customer service!
Authentication inoperative. I paid $129 for digital (and print) subscription and digital does not function. "Subscribe to read this article" is infuriating because I DID subscribe so I could read the article. If you're putting up a pay wall, make sure payment gets through the well.
If I could lower from 1 to 0, I would. This is my 3rd review update. After many useless exhanges with The Week and Zinio, I'm ready to give up. Here is prev review: A hot mess getting worse. I've lowered my score from 2 to 1 star. I can't verify the old bugs I reported before because main screen will not load now after 2nd un/reinstall. Many other bugs...
I love the magazine BUT the app drains my battery. I have 3 daily newspapers and several magazines. Nothing else uses my battery like this. I don't know what they are up to, but it's annoying.
Bought a subscription online for digital only, downloaded the app and entered my account information anddddd... nothing but errors! I love this magazine but what a scam. Just spent $57 for a year and cannot read anything. Excellent.
Just tried this after receiving an encouraging email from The Week. I kept getting errors when trying to view the current issue. Looks like it's not ready for prime-time yet.
Android phone gets hot; app overloads cpu and need to close app all the time. It's been this way for years and I put up with it since The Week is an awesome periodical.
I really enjoy this magazine....but a lot of problems with subscription and app and absolutely horrible customer service...meaning nice people who dont have a clue how to resolve an issue...not a clue
I just downloaded the app, I was able to sign in easily with my email address, and it works great. Whatever problems people have encountered in the past seem to have been fixed.
Doesnt let subscribers sign in for content. Can't contact via the website. Amazing how the cost of the subscription can go up and the competence of the magazine can go down. This isn't difficult stuff.
Good skin of Zinio. My only issue is that the app won't stop trying to download my entire library whenever it's opened. There's no way to disable this and I have to force stop the application all the time.
Please help! I am a huge fan of the Week. I have been getting it in print for years. I've subscribed but can't download. The only option I have is to buy now or subscribe. No download option. Please help and I will change this review asap.
Simply awful. Used to work. Junk interface. Now fails to download magazine. Not renewing if it's not fixed.
I've read every issue of The Week going back about 16 years. This app is so bad that I don't know if I can continue to support the magazine. Nothing works. Nothing can be loaded. This is garbage.
I just downloaded the app with my customer ID with no problem. For those having trouble, be sure you downloaded the US version and not the UK version.
The Week wrapped our recent print issue in an ad encouraging us to use the app. I wouldn't expect them to do so for an app that will not accept subscribers' account numbers, but that's where we sit. Self-inflicted wound...
I am a hard copy subscriber. This app by a company called ZINIO is so unreliable it makes the reading experience a misery. Don't even try this app! Log on to the magazine website using a browser.
Your web site is junk.... I have tried for weeks to download issues, tried to contact customer service, followed the instructions and and I GET NOTHING. Unfortunately, I have paid a subscription until JAN '21. NO HELP, NO SERVICE..... AND ALWAYS NO RESPONSE FROM A HUMAN!
I paid for the subscription but could never access the magazine. "THE WEEK" magazine people were ZERO help. And I cant figure out how to address this issue with Google-play
I like the summary of what is going on not only in our country, but around the world. I feel USA news is unbiased, giving both sides so we can draw our own conclusions.
Crashed each time I tried to sign in. Same problem a year or more ago, and it hasn't been fixed.
Avoid this app. I really enjoy the news content, but each time I used it, I would close the window after using it. The next day, my battery would drain extremely fast. My phone would then alert me that this app was still open and using up my battery. My phone would then recommend a "force quit." After that, my battery would function normally.
