I'm very tired of fighting with this app to connect my smoke gateway. It has worked one time in four years and I basically have an 80 dollar brick. UPDATE: I had downloaded the new app on the day I wrote this review. The new app looks nicer and has a better UX, but I was still unable to get things working. At this point I have to suspect that the issue is actually with the Smoke or the Bridge itself and not the software. Everything works up until the point of registration, then no signals are ever received from the smoke through the bridge to the app. Its very frustrating to use this app, and I develop apps that use network and bluetooth connections for my job. I understand the difficulties of these technologies, but for some reason this has never really worked and it has been very frustrating to try and make these expensive pieces of equipment work as they should. I love thermoworks thermometers and have three of them. This just does not seem like it was ready and still may not be. I appreciate the investment into software, but it may take some more time for things to get where they need to be.
I used my Signals, first time last night. I was able to mute the alarm, turn off the alarm and adjust the alarm triggers. It looked like there were parameters to reset the graph, maybe I misunderstood it. I wonder why we had two different experiences. The app is simple (primitive) but seemed functional. I will update my review after more use. No connection issues or setup issues. A version for PCs or laptops would be nice.
It was working fairly well and now out of no where the app just completely stopped working. I was in the middle of watching it while BBQing and the app just quite. It will not open now, it just crashes. I've tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it but it doesn't help. Please fix this!!!! I need this to work. Edit: very exciting to have a new app!!!!!!! Thank you
App is very basic for a $200+ product. Simple things like average temperature during a cook are inexplicably abset, and you have to go several layers deep in the menu to check the battery level (which never seems in sync with what is displayed on the unit). Have had the signals for over a year and keep hoping for an update to the app that brings it up to par.
The recent update has helped with stability, but this app is still bare-bones, at best. It doesn't even conform to Android norms - long press on a channel name to edit it, right? Nope - takes multiple screens to do something do simple. Screen rotation? Nope. Reorder the channels? Nope. Print graph? Nope. Save configurations and cook history? Nope. With the price of Smoke+Gateway and Signals it's time to invest just a little in app development.
Own the Signals thermometer. I'm very disappointed at the inconsistency of this app. I end up calling customer service each time I use it and experience different issues and remedies each time. Once it's finally it working, something mysterious happens and I lose connection and can't get it to reconnect the same way twice. I really wanted this to work but it just flat out doesn't. I don't like the fact there is nearly ZERO ways to leave a review other than here, this thing DOESN'T WORK.
Having used (2) Signals and Billows combos for dozens of cooks over the past four months I have come to the conclusion that the hardware is great, but only software the can control it is absolutely horrible. Still really needs a lid open detection, or pause feature. Thermoworks claims it will now watch the lid. Like most of the rest the app, that doesn't work yet either. Wishing I bought 2 Fireboards instead.
Pretty miserable experience to get this thing working . Bluetooth doesn't connect. Firmware updates required to use the thermometer and most of the time they fail making the thermometer useless. A brick with dashes on the screen. Follow the troubleshooting guide only to loop back around to the same issue. Offer firmware updates but do not make them required for the thing to function. I can do this on my own time when I'm not prepping for a cook.
Horrible interface. Extremely crappy connection. Base system shows it's connected to the WiFi, it's literally 20 feet away from my router. App shows there's there are 4 probes connected, then when I press on a specific probe to get info on it changes and shows no devices connected. So frustrating!!! App developers need to get with the times.
I'm pretty disappointed with the app. Not the devices. What is most frustrating is the app will work for 10 minutes and log my ambient and meat temp and then the app loses connection. I've tried several attempt to fix it but it won't reconnect. I find it odd for an app like this to be this bad for how expensive the products are.
Awful application. Numerous issues - Bluetooth disconnected hours into a smoke, and won't reconnect. Changing channel name only lasts until the next refresh, then changes to the default again. Data fields on graphs don't show. Graph lines are light colored and miniscule, so can't see them. Fonts too big to fit into the on-screen app, so they spil out of the fields This app is useless with Signals - I have to keep checking it manually in person.
Incredibly frustrating app to use. The UI is OK but the app fails to setup WiFi regardless of steps taken to troubleshoot. Temperature graph will randomly set the start time to the day/time the device was setup thereby invalidating the data without manual processing. App data for the battery seems inverted from battery life on the device. You cannot manipulate the graphs in any way to try to see data more clearly. I hope the development team is working on an upgrade because this is unacceptable
Very dissatisfied with this app. Takes 10 minutes to try to find whatever magic combination of turning on and off bluetooth on the phone and the bluedot as well as turning the device and phone off and on, removing the device from the app memory and uninstalling the app and restarting until it finally registers as an available connection. If you dare disconnect from the Bluetooth you must go through the entire convoluted process again and again. Shame that such a great company put out such trash
Can't believe how bad this app is. Sometimes my Smoke doesn't update at all, I have to clear app cache and it randomly work. Graphs display wrong data, for the same point it displays two different temperature! I took screenshots, exported data, compared exported data using Excel, contacted support and they said: "The graph will be an accurate representation of the environment that the probe is in." Thermoworks definition of "accurate" is: 390F and 420F at the exact same timestamp. They probably have a team of 1 intern working on that app 10% of his time.
Disappointing app. I converted from a Flameboss to the Thermoworks signals as my temperature control system for my grill. The signals works great, the billows doesn't have variable speed like the flamboss did and doesn't seem to have any kind of open lid detection so it does some weird stuff, but it still works well for long cooks. The app however is pretty bad, it shows it's connected but shows temperatures from a previous cook, the graph is useless, please check out what Flameboss is doing.
Don't waste your time with the Smoke Gateway or ThermoWorks app. 4 hours of my life wasted trying to get the gateway configured and was never able to get it to show up in the app despite FINALLY being able to get the gateway connected to my network (by putting phone in airplane mode, forgetting home network, and having a dedicated SSID for the smoke). Yes, all that and still not working.
Disappointing for ThermoWorks. For a company that prides itself on professional quality of their products, this software is a complete failure. I have utilized the App for both my Smoke and my Signals. Equally frustrating ... Name changes to the channels don't flow from the app to the device. Alarms have some odd sequence of dual acceptance, needing to acknowledge and then checking OK. Differences in naming convention between app and device. What a mess .....
I use ThermoWorks thermometer probes with Smoke and am generally happy with the hardware. However, the software for the ThermoWorks BBQ WiFi bridge, which includes this app, is not designed well. First, my attempts to pair the bridge with my WiFi network failed. I had to send the device back to the manufacturer for a software upgrade, which fixed that problem. The app freezes once or twice an hour, requiring killing and restarting it. Fortunately, the data is saved, so it kind of works.
