The last time I used the app to scan my car was last month(in mid-June). Recently there was an app update and also there was some internal software or firmware(v11.95) update. I don't know which update ruined my experience but now when I choose OBDII scan or full scan, the app says: dlicense fail. I have tried on 2 different phones and get same error. In other words can't scan anything! Thinkcar is a tool and if it doesn't work, what is the point of having it?! Especially I was one of the kickstarter backers. Give us the following options: 1) when new firmware update comes out, show the changelog so we could see what is in the update and then we can decide if we need it or not. 2) the ability to revert back to previous firmware if the new one has issues.
I can't connect to the OBD II reader at all. Every time I try searching for it, it never shows up on the devices to connect via Bluetooth. I have all permissions on except Camera and Microphone. So far I'm very disappointed with this product but I know it will get fixed sooner or later.
Better than the average OBDII scanner software but requires not only the proprietary dongle, but also a subscription for every (beyond the 1st) individual vehicle by VIN number. May be okay for the casual user but serious mechanics would find it way too expensive, even if they tried to pass on the cost of the software to the customer so instead buy a real scan tool. If you have trouble connecting Bluetooth just open the app first, then it pairs easily (rtfm).
Not working w/2005 Frontier. All software & firmware show latest versions are installed. 25 failed attempts to pair with galaxy S8. Following directions from ThinkCar correctly, but have tried lots of variations w/out luck. Attempts to get help from ThinkCar go unanswered. You would think they would be trying harder, but no.
Permission issues, why does it need to use my phone? My location? Camera? Location? How are thes helpful for reading my cars OBD2 data???. It just arrived, there was a firmware issue with the hardware and took getting a a new dogle to work. The program just updated and started using 7% battery without any screen time. I just stopped the program and blocked all access. L@@Ks like spyware behavior to me. I will investigate more and change my review. That much usage for NO reason is BAD BAD BAD.
App and pairing is buggy. Would not scan every cars even in standard obd mode. I also paired the dongle with the wrong car and I was told I'm outta luck, even though I reported the mistake a few minutes after. There is also no 2 way communication to activate and test. One that I use on my VW is coming with a multi vehicle version soon. I'm not buying thinkcar again.
Don't really know much about this app as I haven't been able to even use it. I backed this thing on kickstarter and recieved my thinkcar 1. The thing shows up on my bluetooth when I do a search, but will not pair at all. Every single time it fails. I contacted customer support and was directed to a guide on their site to upgrade the bluetooth firmware on the thinkcar obd2 device using the app, but how Do I do this if the device wont even pair with my phone?
I am just a enthusiast. I love the ease of use. I bought the thinkcar1S to help with 2 cars with European specs. Unfortunately, when I try to read repair reports nothing shows. I would like to be able to access maintenance schedules and vehicle manuals in English. Perhaps I’m being little picky but this would increase my customers satisfaction. However, this tool has surpassed my expectations.
I have tried so many others that work okay or work for one vehicle, but not the other. This took works as described & even provides common fixes. Plus, you don’t have to keep track of the bulky code readers, just hook up to your phone & you’re set.
Recommended by Scotty Kilmer, if Scotty says it's good that's good enough for me to give it a try. Check out his recent YouTube video. Yeah it's new and it's not perfect, but this thing does stuff that a $5,000 snap on scan tool can't do! Four stars because it still got a few bugs and just came out of beta testing phase but I'm sure it be improved with future updates.
I am a mechanic, and this is a great product for scanning engine codes and other things, the live data is a really helpful feature which works very well. One drawback is that you cannot do things like resetting the throttle positioning.

Bluetooth connectivity sucks, would not connect after updating, save your money, better alternatives out there. Very aggravating in this 😡 day and age of plug and play. Can't return it fast enough.

This tool has paid for itself in just the first use. I’ve had it for about two months now and fixed an Air Bag issue on a 2005 Nissan, a heated seat issue on same vehicle. A ABS sensor on a 2014 Regal and a short in the door locks system on a 2000 Focus. I haven't even begun to tap into the diagnostic capabilities on this device, but for the mechanic at home, this tool is invaluable.
This is the best (quite small) investment I’ve made for an OBD2 reader and the software to use it. Works great with my iPhone over thinkcar1Stooth. I’ve used it on 4 different cars (Nissan Armada, Mazda 3, Mini Cooper, BMW 328xi) and it has worked great on all of them, multiple times. Highly recommended.

The update does not work. It always fails I have a stable connection via wifi and 86gb of storage space. The device is useless unless it updates. Garbage product and a waste of money
Not meant for anyone in Canada. Only uses Miles. I spoke with them and they said they are planning on fixing it. But its been 2 weeks almost and nothing. Also it loves to disconnect from my dongle a lot. If they can fix those 2 things then it will be a 4 or maybe a 5 star.
"I have owned and used my thinkcar1S OBD II scanner in 4 Audi’s, 3 jeeps, including both gasoline and diesel vehicles as well as my own and friends Porsche’s.The telephone support, software upgrades have been phenomenal, and this has saved me an enormous amount of time and money!Great product, great support.Much like my cell phone, it is hard to believe I lived without this before!"
Useless. I've tried this device in two different cars and it refuses to read either, although it connects to the phone. It just tells me to re-plug it and try again.
The app can't find my car but it can see my VIN. I know my VIN is in the NHTSA database. The full module vehicle scan is not running at all for me. Only the diagnostics powertrain scan works (half the time) on my car. I'm really hope this gets better. Or I demote my rating to a 1 star. Update: Still no support from Thinkcar. They seem to forsake their product and customer after getting their money. They did not do a follow up or anything for their existing customer. Absolutely terrible company
I made the mistake of trying to connect to the bluetooth via my bluetooth settings, but you have to use the app! Good feedback unique to my car.
It does everything you need it to and on newer vehicles, it gives you more information than the average person will ever need. Very handy for clearing CEL codes as well. Worth every penny.
3 stars for false advertising. The thinkcar 1/1S advertise that they're OBD2 but only work on cars 2005 and newer? Uhmm I'm sorry but OBD2 are cars 1996 and newer. But for the app, it's pretty cool. Wish that the mode6 could show misfire counters and some other things
This last update has been wonderful. Must easier to see and improved connectivity makes it more stable. A few added metrics is also nice to see.
"Got it the other day and scanned all five of my cars. It provides advanced information. Even told me that a left power mirror wasn’t sensing position correctly. After clearing some advanced codes I needed some help resetting the VSA on my Honda and Ian at support was very helpful, and I was successful.I love the links to Amazon in the reports. I’m a Prime customer and this allows me to get the right parts at the best price.Well worth the hundred bucks."
I have had this tool now for 3 yrs or so. Anyone who works on cars should do themselves a favor and buy it. Continually updated, easy to use, accurately reports issues. I know it has saved me hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to be able to diagnose and fix my own problems rather than take it to a dealer.

Not worth it. Get the bluedriver instead. This is as regular as a $5 scantool, and if you want to use it's full functions then you have to pay a yearly subscription for every car you want to scan. The user interface is very clunky and laggy. It does not find the VIN most of the time, and does a very poor job over all. The bluedriver is once a gain the best option since it does everything this one can do. With better user interface, better reports, accurate and precise results, and no annual subs
