I drive tractor trailers all over North America and dashboard cameras have always saved me but with this one I don't need to take the memory card out and upload it to my laptop I can Turn on my Wi-Fi without neeting a Wi-Fi connection just to connect to the app and I'm able to not only downloaded to the app but export it to my phone and to others. By the time the police arrive I'm able to show them exactly what happened. It has saved me many many times.
3/26/22 update: after reading some other reviews, finally able to make a connection. With the car running, put your phone into airplane mode and connect to the thinkware wifi. Connects right away. Make sure to tell the phone to stay connected to the wifi when the prompt appears (Android 12). Cannot make a connection to the dashcam. Doesn't even recognize that it's connected to its own thinkware wifi. Wants permission to always run in the background and you cannot deny.
Once again my review has been deleted for a third time... The app will connect properly to the hotspot once you get it connected once: that's an improvement and worth a second star. However, the device doesn't auto reconnect to the device properly to allow you to view the files through the app. Attempting to reconnect through the app it will spin and timeout eventually. Never actually will connect to allow file management.
Thinkware really needs to invest in a proper app. So many good videos, great cameras, but such a boring app. The dash cam takes awesome videos, but 1 minute increments ONLY & no way to stich them together, & no way to combine the rear/front camera in a file either. Also, only can use $90 radar in energy saving mode. & can't record while in live view & no output jack to connect a screen/phone/head unit to...like 2 camera setting for image adjustments. Lastly, can't move hood/center lines =( HELP
It just crashes on my Samsung S20+ when after starting the app. I can't get the footage off the high end camera as the result. It used to work and even they acknowledge on the Thinkware Web site that they're aware of the issue. But that update was in 09/2021 and here we go in 04/2022 the issue hasn't been fixed. Stay away from this dodgy vendor and go with a better brand.
Total disaster. A premium camera like this have terrible app which created unparallel anxiety after I bought 2 of U1000. So frustrated. Update: turn off temporarily all the vpn or Adgurd service that has vpn. This thing works but I am just annoyed with the fact of voice message that it utter everytime it turns on. I don't want to hear that or my Passengers also. Fix it if you can.
Alot of the bad reviews are people not knowing how to use the app or downloading the wrong app. There's a range of apps for different models, which is unfortunate and confusing but when you get it working it works.
The worst experience! Doesn't connect with the default password. Thank goodness this was a gift... Otherwise there are better dash cams out there on the market. FA200 refuses to connect to pixel 3xl.
This is stupid... I used to use this app with an F800 but now you decided to remove support for that dashcam from this app and make me use another app. That other app does not support the type of connection that I always used to download videos from my F800... To me, this is removing functionality from my dashcam THAT I PAID FOR. I would like to have my dashcam connect to my camera via the mobile hotspot like it was intended instead of having to activate the wifi on my F800 in order to connect.
The device outputs perfect 4K video, but the app is absolutely mega doodoo. I can never connect via WiFi to my device. FIX YOUR APP, STINKWARE!
Application works very well on Android 11 Pixel 4a. Able to see all camera info, get notifications and hasn't crashed yet. Very happy with my u1000 and the app
The latest update seems to fix the problems that the prior app had. But it seems way too long to push an update like this since October. Everything on my dashcam work now after the latest update and it now work with Andriod 12.
Haven't been able to connect to my phone since 6 months ago, the app says instal dash cam link but still cannot connect, you guys need to fix this its been months and nothings changed, why do we need to contact you cant you just explain here so everyone can see?
Unstable and problematic app. Can't even connect with dashcam at times. Poorly written app and even more poorly managed product.
After frustrating start - now ok Having read a review where VPN was blocking connection, I turned my VPN off and now it connects. (S22 Android 12)
The app does let you configure settings and see a live view, but it asks for way too many permissions and refuses to run unless you grant them all. It has no need to run in the background 100% of the time if I just want to use it to download files. Similarly, it doesn't need the ability to access all files on my phone to just see a live view.
Car must be on, but not running and not accessory mode. Once the car was on, it connected and stayed connected. You don't want to get CO2 poison, with the car running. I was able to download videos and make setting adjustments without it disconnecting at all. That's what worked for me.
$450 dashcam but can't use it how I intended to. I can't connect to it unless my car is in motion. But when I park and try to connect to it, the wifi turns off, and stays off even when I press the button to turn it on. I'm using the recommended $70 OBD 2 cable and the connecting is completely limited. The only fix is to have someone drive you around while you connect to the dash cam to do a simple fk'n setup.
Application force quits constantly, can't change settings unless in the car and connected. Should be able to queue up settings for next time it's connected. Are videos supposed to upload to the cloud while connected to hotspot because I can only watch them when sitting in the car, but the cam always connects to my hotspot spot. Camera is nice, all is worthless.
RIP in Android 12. Does not work at all. Has been way too long now and should be fixed by now but it's not.
I've moved to new phone Pixel 6 and I can't get the hotspot to work. It was previously working on my Samsung. Abit frustrating. I'm thinking of going back to Blackvue since obviously Thinkware isn't investing on improving their cloud and app. They have not improved on it since having it for a year now. Such ashame. I've downgraded from 3 to 1 star.
The application works fine, but there are a few very, very annoying things: -Please add a download button when I'm watching a video from the camera. It's frustrating to go back and remember the name of the clip -When watching a live transmission I get some flickers, that's a bit annoying. -Make possible to disable all sound warnings from the camera (when approaching an intersection). It just rips your ears when you playback a video... Not to mention the camera was 500E. Do it better.
Using it on my Samsung S10e and it works great. I just wish there were explanations as to what each setting does. For instance, how much memory is partitioned for each item (continuous, incident, parking, etc) when selecting the memory allocation. I wish the file names were written better, the format they use is confusing (not horrible, but hard to understand at first glance). Also, it would be nice to get an overview of how much memory is used for each file type (motion, manual, event, etc).
It works. That's about it. I can't get it to connect to a hotspot but when you connect with wifi you cant use maps or any data. The app functions but not user friendly or easy to use. It takes some poking around to find things and viewing clips is tedious. It took me forever to find a clip I was looking for. There is also a short delay between clips at the minute mark. For the expense of the unit they need to put more effort into the basic, bottom tier app. Makes me think Nexar for our next car
If you have Android OS 9 just put your phone in airplane mode and then the app works fine. Developer has already indicated it's a known issue. Otherwise, the app is clear to use and settings are easily accessible. Hotspot apparently is only for F800. Should be something in connection settings indicating that so users don't waste time trying to get it to work.
Ensure to disconnect from VPN, this app works flawlessly otherwise. There should be an option for GPS data to be displayed and the ability to enable/disable notifications by type as the intro upon starting the car is 30 seconds. It's either all or nothing. The option for 5ghz wifi is excellent as well for super fast transfer speeds.
