This app started out ok, though a bit pricey. I have found myself needing to contact customer service a few times and talking to someone when I first started was complicated but possible. Now however, it is literally not possible. You can call but they only allow you to text and at that your texting a robot. I want to speak with a human!! I would call the leads way over priced and not so sure that some of them aren't sent by the company just to charge you... I could go on.

Thumbtack was a great way to get work when I started ten years ago. Ever since they started auto charging for leads I stopped using it because of their very narrow target criteria. I can't afford $80 a month for junk leads. There's so many issues and confusing things about the platform and they discontinued all phone support and the chat support is terrible. I guess I'm going to copy all my reviews and delete my profile so I can stop getting emails about door repair. (I fix windows)

The PC version is far superior to the app but even it would only get 3 stars. Maybe the client side is better, but the contractor side is quite limited in practical function. The app is VERY buggy and not at all intuitive. I constantly meet with operational frustration. Even this survey part lacks clarity.

Very expensive. There is no option to choose not to pay for a lead if it doesn't match what you're looking for. I include pet sitting with my services, and often I'm already booked for the dates the customers are looking at - so I've automatically paid for a lead I won't be able to do a job for. Similar to Bark, there should be an option to manually choose which leads you pay for and respond to. The app is also glitchy - it sometimes won't let me sign in, other times it just crashes.

I've gotten a few good leads from Thumbtack, but I don't think the people there understand my industry (pet sitting) AT ALL - it's almost impossible to put in the preferences that I need, and even when I do, they keep reverting to bad settings. And when I write (because, of course, there seems to be no way to actually TALK to someone) and explain the problems, no one seems to actually read my email and try to do something about it! Very frustrating, to say the least!!

Some good, some not so good. If you use it right you can make money. The opportunities tab really irritates me because it defaults to most relevant and 100 mi radius, which is kind of silly to me. It should keep the last settings which for me is most recent and 50 mile radius. Every time I go in to the opportunities tab I have to set the options again.

Thumbtack does help get exposure for the business, but many of the leads are low quality and expensive. Example: Received a lead for web design, I was charged $160 for the lead. The lead never answered my calls or messages, and they had pinged 6 others. My refund was denied even though "customer never responded" was an option to choose for refund. Example 2: Frequent service requests from people out of state. They claimed I'm not due a refund just because users selected the wrong options.

I'm a carpenter in north Jersey. Pretty good service overall. Once funds are accessable, you start getting leads. It can be pretty overwhelming and costly at first but there is potential. It took me a few months to really understand how to determine my work areas, services and weekly budget. This is the only paid service I use, it's very reliable 90% of my jobs have led to more work and regular clients. I recommend this to anyone starting out or looking for a source of serious clients.

It would be nice if we could rate leads. If someone contacts me, I pay the $20 or more and then they ghost me, I should be able to rate them for ghosting me, for example, since the customer can rate me for anything. Also, I've been having trouble updating my info in the app. It just sits there after I enter the new information. I've tried multiple times to update in the app and have to do it on the website, instead.

M. H. May 25, 2022

Update: $200. These customers aren't even reading the messages. They're just curious and we're being charged for it. I just spent $100 for nothing. A lot of customers don't know what they need when it comes to electrical. A lot of customers didn't respond to my polite and timely response with a quote. How do we know these aren't bots? There should be stipulations and specifics involved when charging for leads. Thumbtack is raking in a lot of money.

It's ok if your ready to spend alot of money for leads that don't pan out. You are fighting over lead becasue the client side of the service encourages the clients to choose more than 1 pro because Thumbtack knows if they encourage the clients to do that. Each one of those pros contacted will have to pay for the lead regardless if you actually land the project. In alot of cases your paying more out for the service then your getting. Overall bad app. It's better to advertise local.

Jef. B. Apr 19, 2022

You charge $30 for one lead??? It used to be $5-$10, I only charge $20 for their first use! I'll be debt trying to pay it back before I generate anything for myself. I used to like this app but this is really expensive. I can hire an entire company for a month to do this cheaper. You do what advertise which is why I gave three stars, but these prices per customer are way too high. Thank you for a lead but I'll just higher a company instead if this is the charge for just one ☝🏽

Window cleaning service industry and have been using thumbtack for 2 years now. Never had an issue, the staff is always responsive and good with refunds. Majority of the leads are good. My price is typically varying from TT pricing bc it doesn't get as detailed as I would like.. TT says that the quote could vary by the professional, so, i just thank them for reaching out, ask for their address and give a more accurate quote.

It would be a decent app to make money on the side, but their lead prices are ridiculous, sometimes a leader could cost up to $80 and there's a good chance that you wouldn't even be hired for the job. It's just a waste of money if you're not on it constantly taking jobs and actually being hired. The other issue I would like to address is that there's times potential customers directly contact you (so of course you pay for the lead) and you can contact them back, but oftentimes they don't return

Been using for almost a year. Lot of opportunities for new clients. Not sure 100% of the leads are real, and they are not consistent on refunds when leads are cancelled.

It works, but you must work it too. A lot of advertisers promise things & then puts the burden on the business owner to learn so many bells & whistles of technology. What I enjoy about this app is it sends you leads based on your services and the people themselves are selecting you. You don't pay for clicks or looks or swipes. You only pay for leads. The system is not perfect, but very affective. Tweak and alter your profile once you understand your most active client demographic on the app.

Ok app for business. Update: been using Thumbtack a little over one year. Pros: puts your business in contact with clients. A good way to help generate side income when actually booked. Cons: Prices have increased on leads. Clients will contact you and never respond back and pros still have to pay the price on leads. It's a gamble on securing bookings. Sometimes you spend more on leads than actual booking.

Jam. b. Apr 19, 2022

Very expensive! Too expensive! It charges for customers who reach out even if they don't hire you or even need the work done. As long as the customer replies it can charge up to 12$. 1 person messaged me which cost around 14$ for work she was just getting estimates for. Dosnt hire anyone because the job is for 2 months from now but we are still charged.

Ben. W. Mar 14, 2022

NOTICE TO PROFESSIONALS: THIS IS A RACKET - NOT A BUSINESS PLATFORM!! You're charged for every customer who contacts you, even if they just say 'thank you, but I found someone'. You'll be charged up to 50% of what you would've made. You're also charged for the ones you're 'matched' with. Your schedule too full? You're paying anyway. If you preloaded your account, there is no way to shut off withdrawals. But if you disable your account, you lose customer info, fraudulent charge records, etc.

This is good. I got business with Thumbtack for first month. After 2 month, very hard to get a job. Now I am paying the fee for the customer contact but hardnto get a hired. The customer just contact then stop responding. The support team is not giving me a refund whatever customer did it. Never answer call or message. Always declined the refund request. Too much charge of fee. New Thief of tech.

They come up with EVERY excuse not to follow the rules they set in place when it comes to finances. Before all the changes, I loved thumbtack because you were able to select and pay for the leads|clients you want to take on. Now they force you to pay for whomever they send your way even if the client does not properly read your profile. Don't trust the policies they have in place, make sure you select preferences wisely! Update: Still a bad app and HORRIBLE customer service! WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

I atarted w TT back about 7 or 8 years ago. It was great back then, now I see nothing but 1 star reviews (very well deserved). When they say "u don't get charged unless lead replies back" welp, even a "thanks or thank you" qualifies as a reply so u get charged. Also get charged after they send leads to other pros, so leads get replies from 3-4 pros and I get left overs. My chances of getting job are now maybe 10% but paid full price, no bueno. If ANY1 knows a better n cheaper way let us know.

Tim. O. Apr 29, 2022

You will get a few leads, but you also get a lot of leads that message you, (so your card gets charged) and you never hear back after replying. I have always been suspicious of that. You dispute the charge they never, hardly ever credit it back. You will get work, but you are also going to pay for a lot, A LOT, A LOT, of leads that only result in a charge to your account.

My experience has been very good! I'm updated with leads to see if I'm available at those times, I get the option of some pertinent info to quickly assess whether it may be for me or not, I'm not just waiting around for days/weeks just to get a lead Thumbtack is reaching out to me in several ways (email, on their app, etc...) which is great for my business n can be for yours, as well! Only way to find out is give them a try n see for yourself!

Aar. R. Apr 2, 2022

Fantastic customer service. If a lead doesn't match my credentials, I get a reimbursement within the day. Leads are consistent with my work and I'm glad there is a great affordable competitor against angis list. (which is terrible) Thanks Thumbtack for being the best leads App on the market. I wish I could give them 10 stars.

Jef. B. Mar 31, 2022

Been using Thumbtack since 2011. Used to get numerous high-quality leads each week. Since 2019 the reliability has become nearly nonexistent. I am lucky to see 1 lead in my service area per week, and lucky to get 1 direct lead per month. I no longer count on Thumbtack as a lead source

Tan. F. May 16, 2022

Beware!!! This company takes money from your account constantly without a reason. I've had over $100 took out of my account $40 was credited back but that's not acceptable. I didn't pay with credits. The money should have went back in my account. We're is the rest of my money you guys took...

Ada. P. Dec 22, 2021

Horrible experience with this app. I used it back in 2017 when you still had the credit system and it was only about 3 to 4 dollars for a lead. Even if it did not pan out you only lost the 3 to 4 dollars. Now? 20 to 50$! What's worse is now their is no limit to how many contractors can be reached out to by the consumers and the app actively encourages it! So you can wake up one day and see you have a lovely new targeted lead that auto billed you for 20 bucks. Along with 9 others!
