Tinnitus Balance

Tinnitus is a condition that affects 10-15% of the adult population. There is a strong link between tinnitus and hearing loss. One in five people who live with tinnitus also experience hearing loss. Whilst there is no proven cure for tinnitus, there are many proven management strategies to help you manage your tinnitus. Central to many tinnitus management strategies is the use of sound. Sound is used in a therapeutic way to shift your attention away from your tinnitus. Progressive Tinnitus Management (PTM) is one such strategy developed by the US Veterans Administration. The Phonak Tinnitus Balance app helps you manage your PTM sound plan. You can select sounds from your SmartPhone’s music library or there is a list of default sounds. You can rate the effectiveness of each sound in achieving its desired effect (soothing, background or interesting) and the overall ratings can be reviewed with your hearing care professional to reach your optimal sound plan. There is also a timer for use when falling asleep. This app is intended to be part of a personalized tinnitus management program provided by a hearing care professional familiar with the diagnosis and management of tinnitus.

I saw a few complaints of the app lacking default sounds. The default sounds are definitely there. There are three categories: soothing, background, interesting. When you select a category you'll pop pver to a new empty screen with a + icon at the top right. When you push the + icon you can "select from app library" or "select from your music library". When you choose "select from app library" you'll get a list of 10 sounds to choose from. 4/5 stars for not being more obvious for consumers.

App works very well with my new Phonak hearing aids. Helps me deal with my 24/7 tinnitus, suffered from combat. Regarding sounds included I found them in the App, so not sure why others are complaining. Tip: When you open the App it says under the Sound Type tab that there's zero present. But press the arrow on the right side, that will cause a pop-up message that says "get started by adding a sound", press that and a "select from library" option will appear. Press that, the "default sounds" included with the app will appear. (E.g., Blackbirds, campfire, chimes, harbor, ocean.") Tip to Phonak: you need to make this App easier to use. Sounds included should appear on a menu when one first opens the App. I "hear" a 4800 mHz tone. This sound machine app, so to speak, sends supplied or selected sounds, aka white noise, to lessen or eliminate the tone I hear. Oh, I get my hearing aids from the VA. This time, June 3019, I got Phonak Audeo M90-R RIC.

It says: You can select sounds from your SmartPhone’s music library or there is a list of default sounds. There were no default sounds available with the app. Uninstalled.

Very "clunky" to use the app. Needs to simplify actions, some things need extra clicks or long presses with no uniformity. Had to run thru about 5 timea to get it to stop undoing what i had just done

On repeat, the sounds are not continuous. There is actually a 1-second silence which is very disruptive.

Don't have hearing aids yet but this app is excellent with earbuds. Really bad tinnitus.

Wasn't what I expected at all. I didn't want more noises, I wanted less sounds.

I've used these types of apps before but this is the only one to make my tinnitus worse. I would be reluctant to buy a Phonak hearing aid now.

Very helpful especially during bedtime.

I have tinnitus. Mine is so bad that I wear Phonak hearing aids with a white noise generator. There's no white noise sound for this app. The concept is great in that you really want your brain to concentrate on another sound letting the tinnitus blend in rather than mask it.

This app for tinnitus really works. After installing then picking the sounds and playing them, my tinnitus stopped bothering me. What a wonderful app.

Good quality app. Suggest make a night mode so the all white don't fry my eyes when I use it at night (which is when you need it)

Have severe tinnitus and this does help

sbc. Feb 27, 2015

But I don't believe this is a medical app. This is just a music player with some sounds in library. The sounds in library are not designed to hide tinnitus with minimum possible volume and the shuffle is not gapless. Some sounds in the library are very loud for comfort(like station) and some have their own audible background static that replace tinnitus(like farmyard or blackbird)

Just a collection of sounds
