Very awesome game. When I get the time to play another, I will be buying the sequel. One thing of note, not a complaint because I have written a few text adventures and know how difficult it is to catch every glitch. In the cavern where you find and rescue the shopkeeper, it is possible to come back and hit the stone again and have the shopkeeper reappear. Did not affect play because he was still (also) in his shop, proving some people can be in two places at the same time! Great game! Loved it!
Great fun. Not nearly as it could have been, more than one mini quest to complete, then one or two rounding-off touches to find after the game is officially over. Satisfying story, never (that I came across) misleading or making me feel let down, intelligently written. The humour is right up my street :) most of it subtle with, here n there, Pythonesque moments. Pleasant, smooth interface. Hints and walkthrough are "just enough". I love text adventures but find them hard to enjoy when thumb typing; this system gets round that. No suggestions for improvement! (I could suggest adding the ability to reorder items in the inventory but on the other hand that could distract.) I'd like to get to know the shopkeeper better, hope we see more of him in TTA2. Thanks Julian - please keep producing these!
1. The Programmer DID do a good job on this. 2. For sure get this game if u like text based games. Definitely get it. 3. This game has CONSIDERABLY less frustration than type text type the exact correct verb nouns. 4. Great for parent/child interaction.
had a fun time before getting hopelessly lost .Though that is the nature of these kind of games, it would be nice to have a map of some sort.
The app works on Android 9 and it also works with TalkBack.
Really difficult to know what to do next, only actual app that does this though, and it's not bad.
Does not work properly on my system. Please update.
I love playing this game its really fun!
All i get is a inventory button so pfff !
Relaxing. If u aren't looking for storyline but only adventures
Thoroughly enjoyed playing this.
Hi Julian, it's a great game nevertheless I think I do have several problems with it. Got the necklace but that wide shouldered merchant doesnt want to talk to me at all. What a bum rap. Also I've never seen none of those town pictures during the game. Samsung tab 4 10.1"
I really love the design of this game. The only thing I was the smallest bit upset about was, that there was no back story that I knew of. It would have given the story that last little kick. I liked how you also included hints, but in a form of riddles. The walkthrough is a little hard to follow, but it was really helpful. Fantastic game altogether, and I can't wait to play part 2.
This was one of the first things I installed on my new LG G3. Thanks to the creator for finding my menu button (and don't I feel stupid lol) so I could get to the map and options. The "click an option" really is a lot better than typing everything in on a smartphone, especially when it's touchscreen. I love that I don't have to remember to save, it just opens up right where I left off. The game is easy to read, and nice to look at. The Raging Anisble somehow reminded me of playing HHGttG on a 5" floppy disk. (lol and now you know how old I am) About to go install the second one, I hope he keeps making these, with more and more interactions.
While it reminds me a little of text adventures from the 80s, it lacks a storyline other than wandering into areas with something to conveniently do seemingly for no other reason than to do it, which is fine... The player needs intellectual stimulation, conflict of plot twists, interaction beyond minor whimsical statements reminiscent of Infocom games, depth of character, etc. Nice first attempt, plus it's free, but if you could put together something deeper I would be more than willing to drop some coin
Great game, I applaud the callbacks to old text adventures and the ease of use. It's wonderful to not have to type out seemingly random instructions. The lack of an apparent story is obvious, but not a serious drawback. It's very short, but that serves the purpose of only making a player want more. For those not acquainted with text adventures, the built-in hint system and walkthrough are very handy. Worth a play!
I don't normally review, but I just finished this game and was sad for it to end. It was fun, not too difficult, and full of humour. A friar with jazz hands... I loved it. I would have liked it to be longer and slightly more difficult as it progressed. I really liked the interface and descriptions; this was a great way to make a text based adventure on a touch screen. Thanks.:)
This game is such a great find! After hours of scrolling the play store for simple, yet brilliant games with detailed, and brilliant storylines- i have downloaded other games of this genre, but this has to be the best because its so easy to use and it keeps me entertained and keeps my brain working out the logic aspects. If i had to say one thing wrong with it, it would be when you have to select 'north, south' etc, the text is too small and it can be frustrating to get the right one.great game!
Although really short. The story was fairly good though it seemed to be lacking something. Maybe more character development and more twists that keep you invested in the story (like the twist at the end). Very interesting and fun. Looking forward to trying out next one. Keep up the good work.
Awesome game! This adventure is reminiscent of the good old text adventures - Scott Adams, Infocom, all the good stuff! I love the interface - no more trying to guess what to do by throwing together random commands and objects. The writing was great, the plot was fun, and the difficulty level was perfect for casual fun. I just finished it and have already downloaded part two. I wish there were more games like this out there. Keep up the great work!
This is by far the closest hypertext fiction I have seen which still feels like it maintains interactive fiction's freedom of movement. Not to mention the fact that pushing a button is easier than typing a command for a mobile gamer. This game was amazing!
Well I've completed the clock and rescued the shop keeper, but now I'm stick with no obvious exits that I haven't already used. I cannot access the menu on my Samsung Galaxy S5 - pressing the task switch button does just that. You need a dedicated menu button.... *EDIT* I wasn't "long pressing" long enough. Can now access menu. Thanks.
I'm not much of a gamer these days. But this evening I found myself at a loose end, so I searched for a game that I might enjoy...a style from my childhood...text-based games. I found this delightful story! It's not like any smartphone game I've played, and I just loved it. It was the right length to sit and enjoy this evening. I'm happy. I will be purchasing the next one very soon! Thanks for making this! Donny.
It had a little bit of everything a text adventure should have, with some quirky humor to keep things fun. Looking forward to the sequel (which I hear is much longer... definitely a plus)
I used to play MSDOS games like this in the 80's. I was bad at them then, I am bad at them now. One star because I cant get past the basic part of the game. My bad.
Am I missing something, or is there no menu button in the app? I recall seeing info about maps and hints when I started the game, but there is no way to access them? I can't even find a way to restart or change any settings. Samsung S6 Edge, where the old phone based menu button now brings up frequently used apps instead.
Love this game. When I was a kid I remembered my aunts and uncles used to use these type of game to improve my cousins reading, imagination, and ability to follow directions. Bought the second game after I finished this one, would love to see more this type of game. Scored 106% at the end of the game. Anyone know what is the highest point possible?
I used to enjoy playing ZX Spectrum text adventures and found this game engaging. I liked the interface and not having to type and guess the correct words. Only criticisms are I found the game a bit easy as when examining stuff sometimes the game practically tells me what I need to do. I like more of a challenge and to think about a problem for a while. Also too many red herrings. I look forward to playing Tiny Text adventure 2 : )
