To The PATH And Back

Trying to avoid the crowds during the evening rush? Do you need an elevator to get into the station? Feeling lazy and don't feel like walking that long flight of stairs down to the platform? Need to know when the next train is leaving? If you commute on the PATH (Port Authority Trans-Hudson) rail system in the New York City area, then "To The PATH And Back" will help you with that!
Using your current location or somewhere you typed in, and the options you selected, this app offers at most the three stations closest to you. We select and sort them not just by where the station is located, but by which entrance at that station is closest to you and conforms to your needs! Finally, we throw back a map with directions on how to get to that closest entrance at the station you selected.

The list of stations and entrances that are queried also change with the times. At the 33rd Street station, for example, two staircase entrances are closed during nights and weekends.

Swipe to the right on the main page and you'll find a system map that reflects what time you open To The PATH And Back. We'll show you the weekday map Monday through Friday. But if you find out you're staying out late this Friday night, the app will set the nights/weekend map automatically after 11 PM. In addition, when you select a station on the map you'll get the next two departure times for all the lines that stop there!

PATHAlerts is also available within the app! Now you don't have to open your mobile browser or check Twitter for any advisories, just open up the app before you head out and see if you should allow for extra time.

Manually look up the schedule for trains stopping at a station, during any day of the week or holidays. This feature will be expanded upon soon.

What are your options when looking to find your closest station?
* Transport Mode: Quickest, Shortest, Walking, Public Transit, Bicycle
* Sort By: Distance, Duration
* Handicap Access: None, Elevator, Escalator

This is only the first of many features I hope to include in this app, and the PATH is only the first rail system that I plan to have those features available to. Overtime, this app will have the same features (as best as possible) across all the rail systems in the New York City area! The long-term goal for To The PATH And Back is to make it a one-stop shop for all your rapid transit and commuter rail needs in New York City.

If you have any ideas for new features, or spot any bugs or errors, please don't hesitate to shoot an email. The more creative the idea is the more likely it'll be added (if it's possible), and bugs/errors will be fixed and pushed out as soon as possible. If you like this app so far please leave a generous rating as it helps us get noticed by more people. Also, please consider donating to the app by pressing the "Donate" button on the top right of the main page or pressing an ad every couple of days. Finally, the code to the app is free and open sourced at http://github.com/domrpblcj/tothepathandback.
