The latest version of the app suddenly no longer supports adobe drm. Most of the books in my library have this annoying technology attached to it, unfortunately. Forcing an update that breaks the books I have in my library is extremely annoying. I am very frustrated right now. (Edit) It appears the latest major update has many problems and that releasing it was a mistake. I strongly suggest rolling back to the previous version until you get things working properly.
Not very user friendly. Here are a few things that could be improved: 1. Don't show error message if there is no network; I just want to read a book, not browse the web 2. When I read a book, hide the following distractions: the ugly scroll bar, the page number, the top phone status bar; ideally add settings for these 3. Use the space at the top of the screen for actual text, don't leave it empty 4. Add continuous scrolling
Most recent update has a pretty interface but that's about it. PDFs don't have a page slider anymore or anything that would show me where I am, my eBooks don't save where I left off when I'm offline and the progress resets when I'm not online, not to mention the notification I get every single time I'm offline. There's also some little things that I would like to return like the most recently read books on the start page, the disappearing notification bar, or the default font of the books.
The book I use most on the Tolino and the Android app, a reference work, I can no longer read on the app after the new update. Because of such small things, I see myself forced to switch to a competitor. Annoying for me, stupid for Tolino and booksellers using the system. In the long run, Tolino is doomed to fail, the self-inflicted downfall to the delight of the competitors. You don't need to look into the crystal ball to see this.
The good thing is you can read books from stores like Thalia, therefore 2 stars. But functionality is pretty low, adjusting font size in a balanced way is hard, steps are too big. And device status bar is always visible. Earlier versions didn't have this problem, but there dictionary support via share function didn't work. Please fix this, it makes a big difference. For reading experience the older versions are better, interestingly you can use old version 4.5.2 parallel w. new 1 on same device.
Can't handle footnotes. I'm talking about footnotes in the original text, indicated by a superscripted number. Tapping on this number should take you to the corresponding footnote on the footnotes page. After reading the footnote, tapping takes you back to the original position in the text. I have changed my evaluation from 1 star to 4 stars as, apart from this problem, the app works very well. Reloading the ebook didn't solve the problem. But I can work around it using bookmarks to move between the text and the footnotes. I'd already reported the problem to buecher.de. They said they would pass it on to the development team. Thank you for your engagement.
Used Tolino on many different devices (Windows, Apple, Android). Constant issues with offline reading, app crashes, going to the next page, etc. Newest issue is the copy protection with Adobe DRM. Recommends you to switch to Onleihe or Adobe Digital which are not available for MacBooks. Why do you offer online services at all if it just redirects you to other services. Wrote the customer service before, they're not helpful at all: "Wait for the next update". Same issues occur afterwards.
App is really intuitive, packed full of features, and beats Amazon Kindle in the sense of reading experience and extras.. ISSUE FIXED: However I have a small problem. I am trying to read a sideloaded PDF document, an upon opening in Android app I receive the error: "The PDF cannot be parsed". In the Web reader the same PDF opens fine. Could You please fix this, since I would like to use the app for PDF format ebooks as well. Thank You!
Usually satisfying reading experience. Latley quite dissapointing as the app seems not to be able to set a reading mark. As soon as I close the app the progress of reading is always back to 0% not to where I left off. Pretty anoying as I have to either remeber where I left off or search through the book over and over again.
Update: Opening local files works. Since I really like the tolino ecosystem and the app works fine in giving access to content on tolino cloud, five stars seem to be ok. (Old: The app can't open locally stored epub files any more. Neither on my tablet nor on the phone)
I have to admit that in comparison to some other popular apps like PocketBook this app losing many points. Worse GUI o ever experienced, I need to always switch to light mode when I open the app cos it keeps switching back to the dark mode; sliding pages is not possible; many other stuff. Disappointed.
Only being able be signed in to a single ebook provider at a time must be the dumbest design decision I have ever seen. Additionally only being able to delete the credentials from the App Info in the phones settings is downright laughable. I misclicked a provider and found myself not being able to undo that mistake from within the app.
I have an older version of tolino reader and wanted the portability and size of my phone. This app works perfectly and the reader in dark mode is perfect for before bed reading. Blue light filter from my phone helps as well.
The app was a dream come true for me when i found that it had everything for me. The audiobook library has the best features than any other app but the books that i open do not show properly. The images in the epub file are shown very small. Please fix this issue, I love this app.
Good app to read eBooks when I didn't take my eBook reader with me. I really like, that the reading progress is shared between my device. Anyways I would like to be able to customize the gestures for changing pages, as I sometimes accidentally change pages because of the slim border of my phone.
Quite disappointing, after some update even downloaded books are present only as bits of few pages so it is not possible anymore to use the app for reading offline, what I found frustrating. The layout and settings for reading user friendly and comfortable
This app has some serious issues with notifications. They often cannot be discarded. Also, the app randomly starts to play audiobooks when another app gets a notification. And lastly, downloaded audiobook chapters are often incomplete.
The new version is overall a major addition with many new features. Audiobook can now be played with full spectrum. My local pdf and epub files are seamless added tk. Library which i find pretty good for the pdfs especially. Never have to look uo for them in local memory.
I don't like that the book needs to reload every time I open the app. Can the book not just stay on the page I am at? Update: I was asked to deinstall and reinstall and the new version would be better. Not. I think sometime it's best to not "upgrade" and relaunch the next version if it is not ready. I am still having the issues that bookmarks are not kept. The 3 options to open the book I am reading always are on a different page. I now have to have the habit of remembering the page I am at..
While I'm finally able to login into this version of the app, about 90% of my ebooks are missing the thumbnail book covers! It's just a blank page. So sad that I can't see the cover without going into the book..
Since the last update the car interface is missing. Also the feature to continue listening where I stopped at is completely broken. Instead of starting where I stopped last it goes back to where I started in the last session.
worst app for eBooks ever. Doesn"t play properly, just stops and starts playing whenever the app wants. gives notification for every chapter it played... it's so annoying but the audiobook is too good to stop
Love it, but wish dictionary powers are enabled when highlighting. Also on the tolino itself when a plural word is highlighted you give the plural definition when obviously the main definition is what is being sought.. Very frustrating.
Interface on the homescreen is a bit clonky. Otherwise I really like that it has open dyslexic and that the reading UI is great and can keep up with other e-reading apps.
I wish I could scroll normally when reading. The spongey feeling the app has is irritating and its insistence to lock onto a line instead of letting me control how far I want to go forward is slowly driving me insane. It's not my phone underperforming. It's the app fighting me. Had I known I'd be forced to use this to read those epub files I never would have bough them. And why does it want me to be online all the time? I just want to read in peace.
wanted to continue listening to my audiobook after the update but it won't work. doesnt start, doesnt show where I last listened and doesnt let me download the chapters either. completely useless now
Not convinced yet, lags, does not open all books, nags me to use new features (family account), and still unclear how to use text to speech to make it read a printed book aloud. Currently only reads one page at a time, then I have to turn the page and tap text to speech again, not really helpful. Apart from color and audio, the software on my Tolino device seems much more consistent and stable.
